  1. Okay thanks for the incite. Btw, what does four-digit number refer to in the name of the reel? such as 6900, 6920, 6935...?
  2. What are some good panfish lures and/or fake baits? Sometimes when the bass'in get tough, Ill go for rock bass, yellow perch, sunnies, whatever is there. Plus it gives me the chance to experiment with new artifical baits and lures. Ive always used nightcrawlers for them but it would be more rewarding catching them without live bait. list your favorites and watch fish it'll catch and anyother tips you want to share. Thanks
  3. Im looking to buy a Pflueger President 6900 or a Abu Garcia Cardinal SXT, or something around that price range with good quality, something inbetween beginner and expert. I just wondered what im looking for while looking for reels and rods for that matter, Like the number of ball bearings, gear ratio, drag system, why the cost varies so much? Would you guys recommend these two reels? Also, what rod should I pair it with? I know I want a 7' two piece, but I dont know what would fit those reels and stuff? What does the action refer too? Thanks for the help, I know there is alot of questions I asked but I want to understand everything about the charateristics of everything. Ask me any other info about what I should get to help you out too.
  4. Beginners luck!
  5. This is the first year Ive seen them up at Isle View park, on the bike path. They all look to be at least 12" and bigger.
  6. Yea, that spot looked good to us too and we tried some frogs but nothing hit. We eventually walked all the way to the other side of the lake (next to the highway) there was one trail that lead down the steep bank and thats where we got the one bass. At least you had some luck there... It seems like everyone else there was just bobber fishing, and I still didnt see anyone catch anything. Next time you get out there, I would try to come out there too. Also, what time of day where you having the best luck there?
  7. Everytime I go fishing at my one stop, I go over a bridge and I can see I think is a school of white bass. Ive never stopped to try to hook one at that spot but they are there everyday so I might try for one next time. They look like a good size. What should I used from them? Id say there is about 20-30 of them, and they are relatively shallow.
  8. Yeah I tried Tifft a few times about a week or so ago and my brother got a little bass, I caught some sunnies and crappie, but nothing over 12". Tifft is about 25mins or so from my house. How often do you go there? Maybe me and my brother will give it another chance and go the same day you go? Give us some tips because it was so slow the days we went.
  9. This is my first year targeting bass and really fishing in general, and ive been using texas rigged plastic almost all the time. (mostly because its simple, and cheap). I own 2 spinner baits and one small jig but never had luck on them, I dont have anything else really. I know every fisherman should extend their boundries and include multiple bait types so I was wondering if you guys can recommend some good spinnerbaits, jigs, hard plastic, other soft plastic baits that are great to start off on. I just want to get comfortable with other techniques. Ohh and BTW I dont have a boat, I only bank fish.
  10. Where abouts? 45 mins is certainly do-able ever now and then.
  11. Thanks for the advice. This is my first year and im basically learning by myself and with the help of everyone on bassresource. I dont really have the best baits and equipment right now but im hoping to acquire better things and tackle as I progress as long as I stick with it. Over the winter I plan on buying tons of new things to try.
  12. It seems like there are no good places to fishing for largemouth bass around here. The spots that I have tried are have been so slow lately and have I have only seen small bass. Ive tried looking on google earth but there really isnt much within a 30min drive. Earlier, a month or so ago, I would at least get some fish, now nothing. Where I live, smallmouth bass are what most people go for in the niagara river and Lake eire but shore fishing for them, especially now that its summer is very difficult, thats why I like going for largemouth in a pond/lake setting. I really enjoy fishing but I just dont know where to try anymore:/ and now my brother seen some of the fish ive caught before and want to get into it and learn but I feel bad because the fishing has been tough.
  13. I have a spro bronze eye frog jr. I have tried it there a few times during the day, I got a few hits on it, but couldnt hook any. As you can see the bass that I did catch was only 14", but I like catching anysize I can haha
  14. Last night, I decided to walk down to a small local pond at night to see how to activity on the water changed. I brought a high powered spotlight and stared walking around the shoreline looking for possible spots to night fish. Its incredible how much activity there was in the water at night, I even seem some thing that I couldnt explain. I must have seen over 100 small frogs, heard like 5 bullfrogs, seen tons of small baitfish near the surface, a few muskrats that were chewing on cattails. Then I heard 2 huge spashes, I dont know if it was a fish or a big frog, and finally I seen what looked like red colored fish? Im not sure if it was the water clarity playing tricks on me? Anyway, I was wondering how I would approach a pond for night fishing, like what to use and how if differs than the day time. Ive only just recently started fishing this pond and ive only caught one bass during the day, so I figured maybe Ill have better luck at night. This pond also holds rock bass, perch, bluegill, and pumpkinseed that Ive caught on nightcrawlers. With all this food in the pond, im hoping there are more bass to catch! Thanks for the help! Here is a picture of the only bass I caught from there.
  15. What jigs would you recommend for bank fishing because I also fish from shore in heavy cover.
  16. This is my first year bass fishing and I think using jigs is what im missing. I need to try a few.
  17. I wondered about this too. Also, dose it hurt them at all when the hook is set in to their lip or any part of there mouth?
  18. Today I went back and used some nightcrawlers to see if there was anything else. I caught another rock bass and a perch... Someone had to of put them in there lol.
  19. Thanks, this accually helps me quite a bit, splitting it into 3 like you did. Could you recommend any jigs that you use?
  20. Im almost certain that they are rock bass. I looked up both the warmouth bass and green sunfish and the bass that im catching is much lighter in color with the red eyes. Next time I catch one from there, Ill definitely take a picture.
  21. I posted a topic around a week ago about trying out a golf course pond for some largemouth and yes, there are largemouth in the pond, but while going for them, I caught a few rock bass between 6-8" long. I was surprise that there were rock bass in the small pond. Do you guy think someone put them in there? I didnt think they liked the pond setting as much as largemouth bass, but they were hitting a 5" trick worm more than the other bass lol.
  22. Yeah Mr. common Rudd, I caught a 16" one in the niagara river and I guess it is an invasive fish... I didnt know that at the time and threw it back in anyway
  23. Okay so I know there has probably been tons of Jig topics posted but I still find it confusing. Looking on Tackle warehouse or another website looking for jigs, its too overwhelming. There are to many types and styles, and I dont have a clue to when to use certain ones and what to use on them, like ballhead jigs, football jigs, swimming jigs, shaky head jigs, some with jig skirts, some without, some with trailers, skipping jigs, finesse jigs, etc. the list goes on... If someone could really explain each one in depth, to what the jig is for, where to use it, what to put on it, everything about them to try and clear up my confusion with them. Thanks
  24. Thanks for the clarification. I
  25. I was wondering about how the size of plastic baits determinds the size of the fish that will bite it. Say like a 5in trick worm, what would be the smallest fish that would go after it? I know that bigger baits usually mean bigger fish but I know bass can eat things that you might not expect, and if I used a small bait, could you still catch a big bass too? Any info?
