  1. So the 3rd largest reel out of the 4 is the reel you would recommend for the perfect size?
  2. Well I was on Tackle Warehouse and I was looking at the Pflueger President and they come in four sizes, telling me the line sizes with them. The largest reel says its 10lb test, could I run smaller or larger line with that one, or is 10lb line the maximum?
  3. I want to get some Siebert jigs and learn with those and also catch my first fish with a top water frog.
  4. I'm in the same boat... but I need a 2 piece because I travel with it on my book bag. I've been looking at the Abu Garcia Vengeance 2-piece spinning rod for $50, Anyone used/here anything about that rod? Any other 2-piece rods MF rods for $100 range?
  5. What species of fish has small 2" minnows swimming against the current this time over year? I seen them yesterday hugging the bank close. Any ideas?
  6. I believe it is just a cover that goes over a existing mailbox, its just a plastic shell, much to big for a replica or mount. It looks much bigger in person, I could probably fit my whole head it the mouth! lol
  7. I'm from NY and I was getting some decent fish at the beginning of October and end of September. Recently we have had a few cold front come through that past 2 weeks, they have really dropped the air and water temps. Today was the first time I've been out in about 2 weeks and caught nothing, only seeing some tiny bait fish swimming in the river going against the current. I'm guessing the fish are getting deeper and going into there winter transition around here, making them hard to catch from shore.
  8. My brother got me a pair of fishing gloves from gander mountain for my birthday last week. I think they were between $10-20 and they work great, they say Rapala on them and are rubber coated so they are water proof, I also use them while riding my bike to keep the wind off.
  9. This mailbox is on the way to one of the spots that I fish at often, I finally took a picture of it! It must be over 20lbs!!
  10. I didn't expect this many people to reply! haha. I realize that sub-categories can get confusing and pointless to some extent, maybe a pinned thread would work better. Like other people said, more people are stuck at the back because of the cost of owning a boat or being new to the sport. With more and more people joining the forum, this could help them get started and keep less relevant replies out.
  11. Agreed. Most people I see bank fishing seem to just cast anywhere they choose, with no real purpose. I try to find logs and pockets in the weeds at least in shallow areas but casting into the Niagara River from shore is basically like flying blind, not knowing the depth and topography of the bottom can be frustrating and some days yield no results.
  12. I try and get out any time a can, weather and school permitting of course.
  13. True. It was just a thought. It's not a big issue, mostly just seeing if anyone else sees it the same way as "boat vs. bank". I'm guessing the majority of bassresourse users have a boat, I think a bank fishing forum would appeal to people just picking up bass fishing as well.
  14. With me being a young bank fisherman, I know there are significant differences when deciding on what to throw and using different tackle then what you would do from a boat. I wish there was a "Bank Fishing" forum on here to try and limit and breakdown specific question when posted on the forum whether its from a bank fisherman or not. This could help us that strictly fish from shore and do not have a boat, or if you are just headed out on shore for a change. This is just my thinking and just a suggestion. Anyone else think it would help for us bank fisherman?
  15. This happens in the Niagara River during winter occasionally when the water get to cold for the shad, a lot die off because they are sensitive to the cooler water temps.
  16. I've never joined a bass club but it always sounded cool. I definitely want to join one in the future in my area, just like you said to get some new experience and just meet other people who enjoy fishing!
  17. To me, its not so much the cold as it is the wind, it just makes fishing miserable in a constant brisk wind. Its just not worth spending the time while your hands and face are numb, it get very uncomfortable, and the fact that I usually ride my bike to my fishing spots makes you feel numb before I even get there.
  18. The last week or so, it has been raining and cooling down into the 40's during the day and into the low 30's at night, it has also been rather windy. I haven't been out fishing in over a week and the other day I went out despite the poor conditions. After about 20-30 minutes, my hands were numb and couldn't feel anything in the water. I didn't catch anything, I don't even know if the fish would still be shallow where I was fishing. With this said, the weather probably wont get substantially warmer and the days are getting shorter. Anyone else having the same conditions?
  19. What swim baits are those? Would any kind work?
  20. Exactly what happened to me yesterday... I'm a shore fisherman too and there were a few nice sized bass swimming in small schools right at the bank. They would often swim up to my bait and just look at it or occasional have the tail of it in their mouth but would spit it out immediately. I used a 2.5" fluke and I had some hits but nothing would eat it completely. I only caught one with a zoom finesse worm but that was it. I guess they are picky sometimes...
  21. For the tube jigs, how do you like to use them in the river? I've never tried them so far. Do you just use a regular tube jig head? You must have used a heavy jig head because of the current there right?
  22. Did you stay at Squaw Island all day? What was the set up you had working?
  23. I have the same problem, especially as a bank fisherman.
  24. Ah, Okay. I tend to stick more down steam where the water isn't as fast and I'm not fond of that area or neighborhood. Well if you ever venture around the Isle View or Niawanda Parks, I'm sure ill see you. Good luck
