Anyone from the Virginia Beach area? I am back in the area from college and I am trying to find better places to fish. I have a 14ft modified jon boat with an 8hp. Any help is appreciated

Virginia Beach Area Help
I live in the area and fish Lake Smith quite a bit since it is close. I wouldn't suggest fishing there if you haven't before because it is pretty difficult. its very shallow throughout and tough to find the good fish. I know little about the other two lakes. If you end up going to Smith head toward the back right (right out of boat ramp then take second right directly in front of middle peninsula). there you will find narrow passage with some submerged branches in about 7.5fow. that's where ive had my best luck on long finesse worms, typically black or dark blue. Good Luck!

Lake Smith Bass Fishing (Virginia Beach)
well kieth71, your advice worked! thank you. I didn't catch a lot, but I did get 4 fish all just around 2-2.5 lbs in a little over an hour around dusk. I used the finesse worms like you suggested on a drop point that was about 8ft deep.

Looking For Kayak Fishing Partner In Norfolk Va
I fish lake smith quite a bit but never really tried western branch. I live pretty close to odu but I will be heading back to school in a week and a half. I think I'm going to give smith a try tomorrow. I would suggest back bay to you for probably the best bass fishing around. it is a little bit of a hike from odu but if you've got a full day I would suggest making the trip.

Virginia Beach Bass Fishing Reports
Hi all, I am new to the forum. I am a college student in the area just looking to read and give some reports on the Virginia beach area and maybe find some new fishin buddies! Lately I haven't had much luck out on the lakes (mostly lake smith and the little creek resevoir) so I have stuck to some ponds that are tucked away out off of Sandbridge road. Most everywhere I have been lately I have had most of my luck on Zoom baby bass green with a silver belly flukes on 2/0 or 3/0 worms hooks. I know the ponds typically yield smaller fish but my friends and I have done well averaging bass from 2-4 pounds with a few over that. I have also fished the back bay area with the last week and had some pretty good luck in the short trips I was out there. Most of my luck came around the duck blinds pulling a little black jig through the weeds up in the shadier areas. I got one that was a little over 5lbs. I would love any feed back to help me amp up my success and maybe get some of those big bass I know are hiding out there. any tips or other reports would be great!

Lake Smith Bass Fishing (Virginia Beach)
when you say fish it deep and slow do you mean casting? or did you troll or just drop and jig it? ive fished the deeper parts of the lake casting on to drop off points, but yeah it has proved to be extremely tough this summer.

Lake Smith Bass Fishing (Virginia Beach)
to add on I have fished the little peninsula that's in the middle of the lake (the one when you go right out of the boat ramp). I continuously mark fish on my sonar but I've only pulled out maybe 2 or 3 every trip out there. there is the occasional decent sized crappie, but none of the big bass that I have heard so much about. Am I fishing the wrong areas? or just the wrong bait?

Lake Smith Bass Fishing (Virginia Beach)
has anyone fished lake smith this summer? I've been fishing there a couple times this summer with very little luck. Any certain types of bait or lures that have been working? I've literally tried everything there is, soft plastics, cranks, spinners, and buzz baits with very little luck. Any help would be appreciated.
