  1. Sorry for late reply, I just returned from a couple weeks of work travel. I believe geo g is right about the name of the canal. And frogflogger is most certainly right about the honey hole moniker...I have had a 400 bass day.
  2. Been a long while since I last posted. I have enjoyed some great days fishing my south Dade canals, but nothing compared to my favorite spot off Tamiami. I was able to convince my wife, for the first time, on Sunday to leave the house at 5am to go bass fishing with me out in a Big Cyprus Preserve canal. Unfortunately, a levee that only a month ago was still able to be crossed in a small boat, is now completely filled. I am saddened. I loved the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere fishing, hearing only birds, alligators and gar splashing on the water. Now I need to find a new favorite spot...any suggestions?
  3. Yep its the gated community. I have had a little luck at saga bay, mostly small bass and a few smaller peas. Caught while my kids were swimming at the 'choo-choo train' beach, but I have heard great stories from that lake. I have not yet been asked to leave any of the Lakes by the Bay ponds, but I'm sure it will happen sooner or later. Cheers
  4. Its been good lately. Doing some inshore fishing with my little boy and got out to Tamiami trail a few weeks ago. Fished the bridge mostly, wind was howling and made some nice little eddies behind the pilings. Caught a bunch of 1-2 pounders. Hoping to get out with my Dad over Thanksgiving. We may try the Big Cypress canal. Sounds like your doing alright in the everglades as well. We definitely need to fish together some time. Cheers.
  5. Don't mind at all. I am in the Seagrape neighborhood (SW of Saga Bay), but I have also done well in the Lakes by the Bay ponds.
  6. Just my two cents...I mainly fish my little neighborhood 2.5 acre pond (Cutler Bay) for the past couple years. And until the last couple months I caught vast majority of fish on the SE corner, now I am catching vast majority including 5 and 6 lbers on the NW corner. I am mostly using senkos, flukes and large worms. Based on my recent experience, I would say try to work areas that previously were not very productive. Good luck, and I hope you find the fish.
  7. Burning them across the top. Lots of noise and wake. I was not getting any bites with worms when letting it fall or on the bottom.
  8. I was able to get out to the Big-L the past two Sundays and it has been really good. The water is not to high and we have been catching some big bass. Starting at 4pm and fishing till dark with jigs and big worms burning across the top over the Lilly pads resulted in a 27 lb bag last Sunday and a 23 lb bag yesterday. I was really excited because this was my first time to catch bass using jigs. I missed a few really goods ones but still managed to land a few despite my novice jigging skills.
  9. I've been reading but not doing any posting lately. Loving this bass resource. Must say thanks to all you guys and gals. I've been mainly fishing my neighborhood pond the last months and its been pretty awesome. Got my new PB @ 7.9lbs (on a Senko, green pumpkin with chart tail). And for some reason the peacocks are tearing up topwater walkers at sundown (heddon spook jr and the live target walking frog). Been a lot of fun lately.
  10. Been a few months, but things are getting back to normal. After fishing a total of 1hr in November and December combined, I have been reinvigorated by a great trip to the everglades and by my little neighborhood lake that just keeps producing. 1st the everglades....two Sundays ago a friend took me for my first everglades excursion. I did not know what to expect, but it was ridiculous. You won't believe this, but we caught 415 fish. Mostly bass in the 1-2 lb range, bunch of oscars and a few other assorted panfish. Almost every single cast either had a strike, a push, or a catch. Top water baits and pencil-type minnow were killing it. Sorry no pictures, we were to busy reeling one after another. However I did have some bruising on my forearm and side from setting the hook hundreds of times. It was awesome and I can't wait to get out there again. Now for my little pond in our neighborhood...The last two outings produced 4 fish and 5 fish, respectively, including these nice ones (attached). All caught on either white-ice flukes (overcast day) or green pumpkin/green pumpkin magic super flukes (sunny days) between 4-5:30 in the evening. Pop...pop.......and a really long pause. The fish are loving it. Here's to hoping to keep my line in the water as much as possible Cheers everyone.
  11. Way to go forum. I followed your advice and now I get to cull another one. Pulled this from my little pond. Threw a rapala x-rap white around the bait schools and got this 18.5 inch-er. Missed another probably in the same size range.
  12. Ok, I usually have 30 minutes after dinner/before kids bedtime to wet a line. And of all your suggestions I only currently have one spook and a few colors of flukes in my tackle box. Gonna tie a spook on one rod, a fluke on another and see what happens. Thanks fellas Cheers
  13. Sorry about this but I have a fish question for ya'll. We can get back to who's seeing who on who's boat with who's video camera soon, but for now.... I was at my neighborhood pond last night 6:30. Did not catch anything. I did see, however, small schools of bass aggressively chasing bait all the up to the pond edge in about 1ft of water. It was crazy, I could see the bait scattering all around then three or four larger wakes shooting through; and lots of splashing. This pond is small and I know I could walk around it and find the bait just like the bass are and I have tried throwing stuff through it, but with no luck - not even hits. So my question....What would ya'll throw at this situation?
  14. Caught my personal best today. Once again the green pumpkin stik-o did the trick. 21 inches in length and fat....I think I finally get to call this one a pig. I do not have a scale, but I think this was definitely in the 5.5 -6 lbs range, Pics are of same fish one for length, the other for fun. Very exciting pulling this thing in. Also, used a nice trick I learned from the YouTubes (think it was a KVD video). The fish pulled me and stuck me to a rock ledge, then I gave it just a tiny bit of slack and I felt it loosen just enough to pull its head up and out. Lost two other fish the other day at same spot by giving it to much slack and it just jammed even farther in the undercut. Will keep that bit of knowledge for later. After the worms slowed I threw a spook and got 10 or so hits but not one hook-up. Would yall keep throwing the spook or switch to something else on the topwater? I just chalked it up to small fish, but I am not really sure. What do you think. Well, here is my fish......I am a happy camper today.
  15. Yes please, I will take a dozen or so of those.
  16. MCS Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check all that out. But now for the most important question....how is the fishing in December?
  17. Thanks AK. Its totally open right now. I am charged with finding a place. We are meeting my parents halfway (they live in Atlanta), so I imagine FLA-GA border is the farthest north.
  18. To all the North Florida Bass fishers... Before I start another thread I wanted to ask yall about places to camp (and of course fish up there). My family and I are planning a week camping trip up there over Christmas. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. And maybe we could do a little fishing together if it all works out. Cheers
