Favorite Florida Canal Closed

Featured Replies

Been a long while since I last posted.  I have enjoyed some great days fishing my south Dade canals, but nothing compared to my favorite spot off Tamiami.  I was able to convince my wife, for the first time, on Sunday to leave the house at 5am to go bass fishing with me out in a Big Cyprus Preserve canal.  Unfortunately, a levee that only a month ago was still able to be crossed in a small boat, is now completely filled.  I am saddened.  I loved the feeling of being in the middle of nowhere fishing, hearing only birds, alligators and gar splashing on the water.  Now I need to find a new favorite spot...any suggestions?

I wouldn't worry much, they will most likely reopen your favorite spot sooner or later.Try the main canal on Tamiami trail,it's loaded with big bass.Have caught my fair share of them in there.

That looks like the L28 canal off of US 41.  It had the 7 weirs going north west toward the interceptor canal.  I have fished it many times in my buddies tracker.  You could defiantly get away from the crowds out there.  That's a shame they have totally blocked the canal.

Oh no - we use to call that our honey hole when I lived in sofla - 100 fish in 100 casts happened more than once during dry spells

Sorry for late reply, I just returned from a couple weeks of work travel.  I believe geo g is right about the name of the canal.  And frogflogger is most certainly right about the honey hole moniker...I have had a 400 bass day.

Never made it to that canal but it looks beautiful. Shame it is closed.

Go faster, you'll clear it.

I started my guiding career there over  years ago. I was shocked to see what the government has done.
