the fight and lightening up
I love to fish with ultralight tackle. In fact last spring was the first time I caught a bass on line over 10lb test. I now use a more well rounded mix of equipment but I really enjoy ultralight fishing. When we go surf fishing we use 14lb test and 17lb test on a few of our larger striper rods. Just enough so you don't snap the lure off while casting. We fish open sand beaches so its really not a problem till you get the fish in the wash at which point it can get a little hairy but its usually manageable. We certainly lose a few more fish this way but we have alot more fun doing it. Catching a 14-15lb bluefish on 14lb test with your feet in the sand is alot of fun.

light gear, huge fish, read all about it **VIDEO**
Yeah the fishing has really improved the past few years. Last year was excellent we caught 10 over 40" in one afternoon and fish up to 35lbs throughout the spring season. We're at least 100 miles from the ocean if not more. This year one guy posted a story about how he ran into a few solid acres of big fish spawning in about 3-4 feet of water way up at the top of the bay near the Susquehanna. It's a far cry from the day when you could pitchfork them out of the Potomac but there were many years when that kind of scene was just a memory. I didn't realize that the Chesapeake fish would impact R. I. so much though thats good to hear. We had a slot this spring that was 1 fish at 28-37" and one over 42" I think ( I didn't actually get to go out this year because of school). The fisherman overall weren't too crazy about it but it should really help the spawners. Past years it was 28 and then 33. I am a little worried about the fluke and the weaks as they have sort of dissapeared. They aren't doing too well in other places either as I understand it.

Very cool thanks. I knew that they tagged some fish like billfish and tuna but I was unaware they had programs anglers could sign up for to tag striped bass.

Pretty looking bass sounds like alot of fun. Sure beats wire line or 80lb braid as far as fun factor goes. Was the fish tagged when caught or did you tag it? What does the tag signify?

Rods on a plane?
My instinct is probably not, ususally you need a resealable container because they are very likely to open it when checking baggage. If they open the pvc tube and can't get it back together it would not be a good scenario. You have to check with your airline though it varies from company to company..

Snagging alot of Limbs
Well I'm a little confused sicne the limbs were there before the water dropped as well. Why are they all of a sudden a problem? Are you hooking them or getting caught on the cast. If you are rigging your worm using a texas rig it should come through most brush. Generally though if you're getting snagged it means you're in good bass habitat. You might also try heavier line.

Pflueger spinning reel longevity
I use a medalist for surf fishing. It has caught dozens of 5-14lb bluefish and battled striped bass up to the 20lb range. Everytime I cast it out I crank in large wooden plugs weighing 2-3 ounces or sinkers and bottom rigs up to 6 ozs. It is also subjected to salt spray, sand, and being smacked occasionally on jetty rocks. Its been dunked in saltwater 2 times. Still works fine after about 2 years. It might have lost a little smoothness but I find that understandable. Some cite this reel for durability issues but this has not been my experience.

New US Rods ??
I have a Powell 682C and like it very much. Good rod for the price. Casts well. Perhaps slightly less sensitive than some competitors but cheaper and a better rod for general purposes and all around use. Very light. Casts very well (noticeably better than some rods i've used). The build quality is very good well made spined correctly etc.

What Do You Think About This One To Save Gas.
[quote author=kwchannell89 link=1179170867/0#11 date=1179337623 Um what? If exxon selling no gas, if they lower gas and competiton is still high price, I think every american included your self and possible my self will go to exxon because it cheaper. Then other competition will follow. That was purpose the post above. TRUST ME IF ONE GAS COMPANY IS CHEAPER THEN THE REST EVERYONE WILL GO THERE!!!!!!

What Do You Think About This One To Save Gas.
I don't think that will work either. Unless you change market demand or market supply the price will stay the same. Redistributing the demand won't do anything to the market price. Think about it this way. exxon would in fact lower price but that won't change anything. If we all stop buying from Exxon any gas we buy from them will be bought from another company. The other companies would not lower price to match Exxons, in fact they would raise it to account for their increased demand. (They know you're not buying from Exxon so you must buy from them=higher price) As their prices go up and Exxon's fall you can assume people will start buying at Exxon once more. Exxon will thus raise its price to maximize revenue and the other firms will cut price to attract buyers back. The market will return to equilibrium to correct for the imbalance. So in the end prices will be exactly the same and we will have bought the same amount of gas at the same total price just from different firms.

Questions for NASCAR fans
Ok guys I'm not a big Nascar fan but I was trying to follow along a little and i'm a bit confused. Can you help me out with some questions? a. What is a restrictor plate and what does it do/mean? b. Ok theres the Nextel Cup series and Busch series. Whats the difference? I thought the Busch series was like the minors but I notice alot of the big names participate. None of the guys on TV explained that because I guess they thought it was such basic knowledge everyone should know.

NFL Drama???
The most recent thing I heard about Michael Vick is that over 70 animals and various dog fighting paraphernalia were found at a house he owns. He says he had no knowledge and that his friends were taking advantage of his generosity by using the house to keep the fighting dogs. According to ESPN today two sources close to Vick alleged that he did indeed have knowledge and may have been involved. It seems pretty unreasonable that your friends and relatives can set up an alabroate dog fighting operation with 70 animals in a home you own without you having the faintest idea. "Vick's cousin, who lived at the home, was the target of a drug case that led authorities to search the property. Investigators reported finding dozens of dogs -- some of them injured and malnourished -- along with items associated with organized fighting, such as treadmills for training, jaw-prying sticks, veterinary drugs commonly used to treat wounds and blood-soaked carpeting."

landlocked and hybirds?
Look for structure. Dropoffs channels points. Bridges and rocks can hold fish. Stripers tend to be found in deeper more open water. I recommend this site http://www.stripers247.com/beginnersclinic.html Though seeing as your in New Jersey I'd go to the ocean and catch one with your feet in the sand. In Island Beach State Park where I fish they can't stay off the 20-30" fish right now and it'll get better throughout the month with some big girls showing up.

question is to go college or not go.
Why not go to see how you like it? Give it a year to see if its for you. But a bit of advice. Even though you might plan on being self employed taking courses in college would still be very useful in that path. Running a small business isn't all intuitive and college may help you in that regard. Bottom line is theres no contract saying you have to spend 4 years. So I say give it a try and see how you fit. Also remember if you want to go back when your older to take courses to get a degree that's an option as well.

'Angel-Hair' Algae
The presence of that sort of algae means that their is eutrophication in the lake. Eutrophication is an increase in nutrient levels and bilogical productivity. At some levels it is normal but the cases you guys are discussing indicate fertilizers are polluting the lake. They increase in nitrogen and phosphorous and allow the "algae" to grow. The stringy stuff is not always actually algae sometimes its a bacteria referred to as "blue green algae" therefore its an animal not a plant. While an increase in nutrient levels and biological productivity sounds good for fish it is not. As the blue green algae die decomposers move in and actually deplete dissolved oxygen. They block sunlight from penetrating the water harming the animals that live their and keeping the light from the naural weeds and algae that need it. Thus the presence of eutrophication can lead to fish kills, and a decline in the lake. This is more common in small ponds but can happen in big lakes. (search for lake washington) It may be useful as cover to some degree but overall its not a positive thing for your lake as it represents an imbalance. Red tide is an example of saltwater euthrophication. I'm no scientist so this stuff may not be 100% correct but it represents my best undertsanding of the matter. Hopefully it helps

Fish
Wahoo and King Mackerel are two of my favorites that can be caught on the east coast. If you are talking strictly fresh or inshore I like spanish and fluke too. Not much of a freshwater eater but like the fella from kentucky said its probably what you're raised on.

UFC 70 is in the books....
I also wonder how he didn't break his ankle and tear every tendon in it as well..... that was terrifying. I have to say the UFC was probably not too pleased with the result. Cro Cop had his reputation from pride and was generally very marketable especially in europe. For him to go down in his debut (and to be so dominated) sorta throws a wrench in the UFCs plans to make him their next star. In the long run Gonzaga may be a star but in the short run it was probably dissapointing for he UFC brass. The Arlovksi fight stunk... I am also glad that one was free. Bisping looked ok... I thought the kimura would get him but i think he wore elvis down so much he was able to muscle out. I'd like to see him fight again

DOA products have been surprisingly efefctive for me even though they at first seem to have little action. Glow pattern is a killer. This post is also in the wrong section I think.
