  1. Granted the summers been cool this year in michigan, Texas rig an chatterbait for me. I typically get out at 8-9am an fish till 3 or so.
  2. Dunno bout this structure bug but ive been having great luck with the rage craws on a weedy ledge. Goes from 3-4ft down to 16-18ft quickly. Grass lookin stuff on top, dropping into cabbage an coontail. Most hits are towards the bottom of the ledge on the fall. Ill keep a nice bow in my line and the that "tap tap" and rip that hook. I like green colors for this.

Its not your equipment, i use a similar setup on 20# flouro. Try some different colors. Hint hint blue craw....
  4. Might not need to cross there eyes with an open hook. Im slowly pushing all the light wire hooks out of my box, they flex to much on the 3# an up bass. Thats my opinion though, is the hooks on that jig thin? In my experience 12lb wasnt sufficient to bury the hook, i pulled alot of fish to the surface only to spit the hook. Cought the lil ones tho haha
  5. I was using gamagatsu(sp) hooks, i did a lil test. Found something that weighed 3-4lbs and put the point of the hook into it and slowly lifted. The gama hooks had quite a bit of flex, so much so that the hook point fell right out when i let off. Trokars flexed very lil, and the hook stuck right in after let off. I never need to resharpen trokars, like do with any other hook. I keep a nice bow in my line an wait for that "tick tick" the a steady lift an reel.
  6. Ive tried a 6'6 mh. With 15# flouro 6'8 mh fast action with 50# braid 7'0med spinning rod with 8# flouro 6'6Med spinning rod 8# flouro. Ive settled on the 7'0 spinning rod med. Action with the trokars. If fact i cought a few today on the ol'wacky rig
  7. Ive lost so many fish and tried many hooks. Whats frustrated me most is those darn circle hooks. Tried all kinds of hooksets. Ill never buy anything but 3/0 trokar ewg's. Ive tried 1/0's they work great on dinks-2lbers, but those bigger fish i could never bury that hook. Bumped up to a stouter hook, and the insane sharpness of a trokar. Now as long as i have my drag locked down, i can bury that hook everytime with trokars.
  8. I would say im a "become versatile" angler. I have 7 rods in my decked jon boat, with 7 different techniqeus. I think with this setup i can fairly quickly try one technique, test it for a dozen casts, and move to the next rod/technique just by pickin up a different rod until i get that first few bites. If one of the seven isnt working ill try whatever comes to mind until i catch fish. Your limiting yourself if your only fishing your strengths imo.
  9. Yes, ive never come back an hour later. But have hooked one, lost it, and either coght it right away on same lure or a follow up bait. During the spawn, more likely than not you can hook into them again. In fact once when i was 12 i found a smallie on bed under a dock. Tossed a green lizard in an cought her 3x, in about 20minutes.
  10. Just depends on who and how courteous. Most kids ill gladly share info, maybe even give em a few baits to try. Ive shown baits n colors to people at dnr docks, that struggled to catch anything all. But there are some of my friends that ill try to help, but after all the whining i tend to get quiet with them.
  11. From may to now, ive been out 18-20 times. Most trips with10-15 fish a trip. A few 15-20fish days. a couple trips with 1-5 fish from the banks\limited time. Probly right around 180-200 to be fair. Big increase from last year, 45-50 trips from mem. Weekend to mid november= roughly 250 fish average.
  12. Thanks, i tried each direction. Ill be out this week to test it out. I didnt happen to notice if the tail rode up like you said, it just didnt look as good comin threw the water tail down vs. Tail up.
  13. will definatly keep this in mind, thank you
  14. good ?. Im one of them guys that experiments, tail up is the way it fishes best. When burned on a chatterbait that tail gives it a good side to side erratic action. theyll either crush it or push it 1-2ft. A trailer hook gets in the way of the tail. Only thing ive come up with is a treble hook, one hook hooked into the grub which exposed the remaining hook upwards.
  15. Whoops looked over this post. You tend to get any short strikes?
  16. Big O , do you get quite a few tail strikes. Ive been on a good bite burning a custom shad color i made with a white rage grub. I can generate 15-20 hits but seems like 5-10 of em just knock the fire out of that tail. Im tryin to resolve this issue lol
  17. No one uses a rage tail grub???
  18. I get mine from ebay. Type in silicone skirt and sort by lowest price+shipping. Keep scrolling and youll see ads for 10 tabs for 2.95shipped. Tons of colors. I can usually make 4 skirts from 10pads
  19. I pretty much gave up on hunting, tough to find decent land anymore without shellin out hundreds to lease property. The EHD that hit our deer herd 2yrs ago really pushed me out of it, along with my jealous idiot neighbor. I usually give up work as many days as i can get away with to go fishing, vacation, sick, and just call in days it doesnt matter. Whether its bass or ice fishing the only thing thats a bigger priority is family. Lol i love the look on the bosses face when i turn down saturday n sunday just cuz i want to be fishing, its priceless. Yall should try it
  20. I check ebay often. Just got season 5 &6. Of the bass pros, and 2 in fisherman dvds for $40.
  21. I feel for ya. My current girlfriend likes to fish with me, but hates that ive got a bit more skill. She'll quit fishin if i start catchin too many, but she does give it a heck of a try. She doesnt complain enough to get upset about boxes, videos, new rods n reels that show up at my door. Even has offered to help fund my boat restoration project. With that said, she does NOT, let me repeat DOES NOT take critism well. Doesnt matter whether its me tellin her drivin is scary or you should try this or that while fishing, its a tread very lightly sort of thing. Ive come to the conclusion after many arguements and pounding my head off the wall just trying to help that, just let em figure it out on there own. As long as it not goin to physically harm em. Oh once i was teachin my ol lady to shoot bow, she sticked her index finger right infront of the feild tip and was bout to release. I knew what would happen if i told her but very calmy told her to move her hand and let the bow down, she wasnt happy at all UNTIL i showed her with my hand what she MIGHT have done had she released an arrow. She got teary but thanked me. With that being said..... things were totally opposite with my furst gf of 4+ years. She didnt bother to ask how many i cought, or if i even went fishing... i had a boat for 2+ years and got her in it once, after pulling teeth. She nagged n complained for about 45-60mins before i had enough and loaded the boat n left. Always complained about spending money, so much so my dad heard it once n set her straight.i bought a portable drill, big deal. She split which sucked butwas a major blessing aswell. Years later i found out it was mainly cuz i have an addiction to the outdoors. Ive told myself since then, if a women doesnt like me for who i am, right theres the door. This is what i do and who i am. So youll have to figure out whats most important to you!! From my experience you cant force em, enjoy your own time. Thankfully i found someone that joins me and understands why i love to do this. I am truly thankful. Today even, i took my ol lady out to learn how to throw my 7'baitcaster. She complained the first few casts, but i just give her a couple simple instructions and walk away fishin the bank. Standing there i see repetitive 40+yard casts ploppin in front of me, looked over an said " darn that didnt take long, good job"
  22. I dont buy the fish on the first cast thing, i did just that today fishing the bank. 3-4 outtings last year, good ones started just like that. Wind from the east, fish bite the least. Really the only one i know of. Really though ive cought fish in every wind direction...
  23. I was fishing with a buddy about 7years ago. We were beating the bank an each dock we came across. We had one guy come running his mouth about us fishing his dock, no boats or people nearby. He kept saying he was callin th. Dnr n blah blah. Go ahead buddy, what your doin is called harrassment. He shut rite up, an we kept fishin docks. The saw blade thing is over the top, report it.
  24. Dang nice catch, had to been a heck of a fight. What was the legth n weight. Looks 40 in +
  25. When will my shift end here at work!!!!!! Andd im hopin this craigslist guy follows thru eith this barter!!!! Snowmobile for a boat motor. Hmmm i wonder if this sneaky lil _(%@: dayshift foreman will come into work on 3rd shift again, what a pita he is. I need more money for gear, but the ol lady wants a new stove first. Man id sure like to quit this job, then send a pic to my boss with many fish in hand. Bass big giant jig eatin bass, thst reminds me i need to order skirting material..... Hmm i think this pretty girl has a thing for me, keeps winkin n smilin Sorry ya'll my mind wanders at work, my job only requires me to work 15-20mins out of an hour.
