  1. I only ask cause I heard the xr6 was one of mercurys most reliable engines
  2. The boat I'm looking at is an 05 nitro nx882 with a Merc 150 xr6. How do you guys feel about it?
  3. I'm looking to buy a nitro, skeeter, or stratos very soon. This will be my first boat purchase. Can you guys help explain to me the differences between a 2 stroke motor and a 4 stroke and help me decide which will be a better option for me? Thanks guys
  4. I put my reel on a glass 7'4" mojo crankster and that balanced out worse than my lews did. After putting it back on the lews it didn't feel bad at all. My gripes with the lews are the balance, which isn't as bad as I thought, I wish it was glass opposed to graphite, and there's no hook keeper on it anywhere. So what do you do with your lure? Any experience with the Veritas "winch series" rod?
  5. I have the same one with a gen 3 S on it and I feel like it's not balanced well at all. Even with the long butt it's very tip heavy. I haven't actually fished it yet though. Do you feel that as well or is it me?
  6. Are all the lews tournament speed sticks crankbait series rods made of glass?
  7. Hey guys it's me, the rod bug again lol. I'm asking all these rod questions because I'm now looking to own numerous rod/reel combos. So my question to everyone is what are the 5 most important rods to have with you on the boat? And please don't just say the rod technique name and if you do can you tell me what the power and action is. Even the 3 most important will be very helpful. I've read the articles on here but I'm still having a hard time. I feel like they're confusing me more. I just want your opinions. I have a 7' MH fast already and a spinning combo so I guess 3 more rods I'd need. What do you think?
  8. I just bought the stx and did I ton of research. I was prepared to buy the mgx if it was the best for for me. I talked to a lot of experiences people and the main point I received was the stx was def the way to go and that for another $150 I was just throwing money at the reel at that point since the differences, although made a difference, were minute. I know your battling between the sx and stx but if getting chosen over the mgx (not saying its a better reel) then the $199 must be worth it and at that point $40 is prob worth it. The stx has a different braking system (magnetic and centrifugal), it's lighter, and has more bearings. I've only been fishing for 7 months and I read that the dual braking system is pointless and may be more if a hassle. I strongly disagree. It allows you to dial in more specifically and literally takes 2 min. Personally I put 3 of 6 centrifugal brakes on and have left that alone. When I need to switch I just adjust the magnetic brake and it makes the adjustments necessary with ease and quickness. Bottom line is that I'm very happy with it and in the end in sure you will be too. If your gonna buy, buy the best for yourself. Dont leave yourself wishing you had the better of the two. It's an invest your gonna get your money's worth with, especially if you fish as often as i do.
  9. Hey thanks a lot guys. I'm goin out again at 9am with a real experienced fisherman. Until now I've been goin out with a buddy that's been fishing for years but hasn't gone past fishing a spook or spinnerbait and it's just a small hobby to him, or just by myself. I really hope to get a lot of it tomorrow and gain a whole lot of new experience. I'll let you know how it goes. By the way, thank you to all you guys that took the time out to read my post and respond. I got a lot of new ideas
  10. Thank you sir snookalot. That's exactly what I needed to hear and all I needed to hear. I know exactly what I'm going to do now.
  11. Thanks buddy but I'm not talkin about the differences between a mag bass casting rod and a M casting rod. I'm saying that Abu Garcia makes a reg M veritas and a winch series M veritas they're both M in the same veritas line by the same manufacturer and the tge veritas handles a 1/4oz and the winch veritas doesn't go that low, it only goes to 3/8. I want the winch series because it comes in a mod tip and I want the flex in the rod but I want a rod with that flex that can handle throwing 1/4oz lures. If you say that they're just estimates, can I get away with throwing 1/4 oz lures with a rod that's rated for 3/8-3/4 oz lures. I understand the rods not gonna blow up in my hand or break or anything drastic. I like the veritas despite how some people feel about them. They feel perfect I'm my hand, they're extremely light, and sensitive. So I'd like to stay with one but if I'm better off going to something else that's the same flex but can handle 1/4oz lures then ill do that. After my initial question about same rods, different ratings, my next question is what am I better off going with. Sorry if there was any confusion
  12. They don't. That's the most flexible rod they sell in the veritas, the winch series. Now the reg series veritas M rod is rated for 1/4 oz lures but the rod is extremely stiff. That was my initial question.
  13. The winch series best fits cause I'm looking for a rod to throw cranks or topwater. Basically a rod to set treble hooks in general I guess but like I said, it's not rated to throw 1/4oz lures. Can I get away with throwing them still?
  14. But why does the same company have two rods rated M but one isn't rated for throwing 1/4oz lures? Is it because the winch series is a crankbait rod? Can I still use it for 1/4oz lures? I need a more flexible rod and that's the only one that they make that is that flexible
  15. Maybe someone can answer this for me. I have a 6'6" veritas mh. Like I said, I wanna replace that with the dobyns and change the veritas for somethin with more flex. The only one they got with the flex I want is the winch series and it's a M mod. Now all that's perfect for me except the lure rating on it starts at 3/8. If I'm buying a M rod I want it to handle throwing 1/4oz. How come the reg veritas M is 1/4-1 and the winch series veritas M is 3/8-3/4? Does the moderate tip on the winch affect it that much or can I get away with throwing 1/4 oz with it?

  17. Bottom line is fishing is def harder by far now. It takes more skill, more knowledge, and def some luck
  18. I have had the exact same issues. I've been Out constantly and I'm getting skunked day after day until last week I caught a good 4.5lber on a pig and jig that was under an overhung tree. Today I actually threw a Lake Fork sun perch swim bait. First time throwing a swim bait and I caught a 3.5lber. It's amazing how much confidence you can gain in a life by catching your first fish with it. I tried it cause I've been seeing these swim bait guys catchin these fish on swim baits that are as big as them. I guessed if they're gonna use the energy the. It's prob gonna be for something that's worth it
  19. Will I be a lot better off with the 704? I mainly throw 3/8-1/2 oz jigs
  20. I know a lot of people say to use spinnerbaits and buzz baits an hour after sunrise and an hour before sunset cause those are the times the fish are feeding the most but then I hear things like that about mid day which makes a lot of sense. I've been fishing hard since July and I'm talkin 5 days a week and if I'm not fishing then I'm reading about fishing and studying fishing so it's not like I don't know anything. I feel like I actually take in to much and it becomes an overload. I ask these questions cause I feel like there's nothing better than hands on experience. That's where you guys come in. I may have put in a lot of time on the water for the average person fishing for 4 months but I've never been through seasonal patterns once yey
  21. The 5 is mag heavy. d**n. I got the 703C
  22. When the water gets this cold are the fish moving at all or very slowly, or at certain times of the day or are they just not chasing bait as much? It's do confusing because I know they day fall is when they feed up for winter but I'm also reading that the fishing is slow now. What basis do you go on?
