Baitcaster problem that can’t be solved!!
I clean and fix reels on the side as a second income and I’ve ran into an issue that I just can’t figure out. It’s a Johnny Morris Carbon Black reel. Whenever I tighten the drag down the reel gets stuck at the bottom when reeling. The spool is straight, no problems, I even tried other spools. If I take the spool out it reels nice and smooth. If I put the spool back in and loosen the drag it reels totally fine. It’s only when the drag is down that I have the issue. I put new spool bearings and brand new drag washers. Still, same issue. Can someone please help? I’ve googled it and I’m not finding any answers at all. Thanks guys!!

Huk Gear Bibs and jacket VS Basspro 100mph
Thank you Daiwaguy, I appreciate the feedback. I just don't understand how people can chime in about whether rain gear is good or not when they haven't even worn it in the rain. Smh. Anyway, I owned Frabill rain gear for the last two years and I've worn it maybe 4 or 5 times in either light rain or very short downpours. However, last weekend I had a tournament on a day where there was 25-30mph winds and a steady rain for the entire 8 hours. By 12pm I was soaked head to toe right through my rain gear into my underlying clothes. Luckily I had a change of clothes, backup bibs from west Marine and an extra jacket that got me through the day. Needless to say I'm looking for new Rain gear and in between the Stormr fusion gear and the Huk Next Level Gear. I know it's $700 for the Huk gear but I get 50% off so I'd only be paying $350. Do you have the reg rain gear or the Next level rain gear?

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Temps Sunday on Wequaquet were between 45-47 bye if that helps anyone.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Fished a tourney on Wequaquet on Sunday. 20 boats and nobody came in with a limit. Winner had about 12lbs I believe and 4th place had 2 small rats. I didn't catch any bass but I did manage to catch my first northern pike that was about 3ft long. Hell of a fight. I have the Mass State Team tourney open Saturday on Lake Cochituate. If anyone has any info on Cochituate from this year let me know how it is.

Dropshot Rod Action (Legend Tournament)
Idk of it would be an upgrade. I really like the Veritas but I had one break on me in the past. I have a 7'6" MH Veritas that I'm using as my Carolona rig/swim jig Rod. Plus I think the new 2.0 is a lot better than last years version. I Currently own 4 Dobyns rods and I love them all so I wanna stick with a Dobyns or that St. Croix LTB
-
Dropshot Rod Action (Legend Tournament)
I currently own a Sellus not a Mojo. I'm looking at a dobyns savvy 7' ML fast and an LTB 6'10" ML XF. It's between the two right now I think.

Dropshot Rod Action (Legend Tournament)
Do you guys feel that St. Croix's actions are pretty much the same in each type of rod? Is a M Fast going to feel the same in a mojo bass as a legend tournament?
-
Dropshot Rod Action (Legend Tournament)
Absolutely. I agree with you Chris but like I said, the Sellus is just to flexible for me. To a point where it feels like the Rod is going to break. It's been fine for 1-2lb sm but im not going to wait to see if it holds up to 4-5lbers during a tourney. Another part of the Rod that feels cheap to me is the reel seat. I can tighten it down all the way and the reel still moves back and forth. Don't get me wrong, for $50 the Sellus is a great rod. It did me good for my first tournament season. I won 2 lunkers and placed 3rd in 3 tourneys and dropshotting played a big part in those finishes. I Just want something that's a little more stout. Maybe something rated for a heavy dropshot and something that feels sturdier to me. The gl2 dropshot had the exact action I was looking for but I've read and heard that it's not worth the $200 in any way whatsoever so it turned me off of it. I want to find a rod with similiar actions to that GL2

Dropshot Rod Action (Legend Tournament)
Hey guys. I currently own a Shimano Sellus for my dropshot Rod. It does the job but I don't like their XF rating on it. The tip is very floppy and almost gives the rod a parabolic action. I want something a little bit stronger. I was looking into a St. Croix legend tournament dropshot/Finesse. Does anyone know how the XF action is compared to that Sellus and your opinions on a DS rod that may be a little closer to what I'm looking for? Thanks

Fall Fishing This Year
I agree 100%. I live in ma and the weather was exactly the same. Ice out was about a month late and I believe it was because I bought my first bass boat in December and couldn't wait to get on the water lol. There was def a very inconsistent topwater bite as well compared to last summer where it was blowing up all morning and afternoon with 20-30 fish days. This summer you were lucky to catch 3-4 a day on a spook. Hope this winter goes by a lot faster and is a lot shorter.

What Could Be Going Wrong?
Your not alone buddy. I've had the same issues and every tourney I've fished since sept has only had winning bags of 12lbs and less. I really don't think all the articles about fall fishing we read pertains much to our area. Our fall comes a lot sooner than the rest of the country and it def doesn't seem like our fish get active to feed up for the winter. It seems more like they turn off. I've asked the same questions and got the same answers as you did. Almost like people aren't fully understanding the type of advice your asking for. I've also tried throwing everything and reading more and more to find a remedy. I've come to the conclusion that it's all about experience and learning the waters your fishing and its personality. I think each lake and its fish have a distinct personality and it can be learned at each time of year. It's all I can come up with until I actually get out on a lake with a pro and see them catch the fish and teach me how they do it. If it even works.

Moosehead Lake
No bass? Didnt you guys see the BASS's top 100 bass fisheries in the US this year? Moosehead Lake and China Lake in ME made the list. I doubt it made the list with no bass in the lake.

Fall Bass Blues
I'm having the same exact issues. I live in eastern MA and this is my first season tournament fishing and my second fishing at all. But as soon as the fall rolled around I get skunked or have 1-2 fish days day after day. All I read says fall is suppose to be one of the best times of the year for numbers of fish and its time they come up shallow in coves and creeks to chase bait. Well that most certainly isn't the case around here. I'd think it was my inexperience but tournament after tournament the winning bags are 10lbs and less and only 1-2 boats come in with a limit. I think that this area is a totally different story. I think our conditions come quicker, the temp drops sooner and days shorten sooner. Our fall starts early September when everywhere else has til oct-nov. It makes things extra hard because 98% of the articles are written about lakes everywhere else and we don't have much study or read because of that. If someone could figure out how to catch 15lb bags this time of year in MA and NH they'd win 90% of the tournaments around here. This is the exact reason I came to this part of the forum this am but apparently I'm not the only one dealing with this.

Sammy 100's...giant Dog's...etc.
Thanks guys. This is the first time I sprang for a high end lure like this but all my spooks and sexy dawgs, etc always had a split ring on them so when I noticed these didn't have one I started to think.
-
Sammy 100's...giant Dog's...etc.
Quick question guys. The higher end walk the dog baits don't come with a split ring on the nose. Are you suppose to put one on yourself or do you tie directly to the stationary circle/ring that's imbedded in the nose of the lure?

Need Help Setting Rods And Reels For Techniques New To Bass Fishing
Hey buddy. While there are better types of line to go with for certain techniques, it's also based on your preference for some as well. For instance, some people are spooling all their reel with braid and adding a leader when called for. Another example is crankbaiting. Live read in some places that flouro is better cause of the sensitivity and it sinks which helps get your lure down but I've also read in a lot of articles to go with straight mono. I'm in a slightly similar situation. Last season I had one rod, this season I have 8 setups that I'm spilling and fishing for the first time so I've been looking into this all winter and I've learned a lot so far. I'm using braid for flipping, pitching, spinnerbaits, and chatterbaits. I may use a flouro leader and my flippin/pitchin setup if it's needed. I was lucky enough to sit and talk with Randy Howell for a whole day a week before the bassmaster classic and he said to use braid for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits cause of the long hooksets. I'm also partial to braid so it works for me. I'm using flouro for my crankbaits, shallow, mid, deep, and lipless. I also spooled my shaky head and dropshot with all flouro but I'm still not sure if I'm gonna switch to braid with a flouro leader. I guess being on the water is the only thing that will answer that question. Jerkbaits is another technique where I've gotten mixed answers. Some like flouro while others like mono and they both have their ups and downs. I haven't spooled that reel yet lol. My last one is my topwater which could also be my jerkbait rod depending if I use the same rod or decide to buy another setup but topwater is mainly mono because it floats and flouro would pull the head of the life down and impede the action of it. It's hard to just get quick answers for this seeing as there are so many different ones and different uses for single setups. You may have a single setup for two or three techniques and they use different line so it does become real confusing but I hope I helped you out a little with this looooooooong answer. I think no matter how much I've watched and studied and read, that nothing is going to replace being on the water and that's where you'll get YOUR answers.

Trailer Help
Hey Jfrancho, I have an 08 nitro trailer. All the wires are inside the hollow metal rails. Any suggestions on how i should fish them through or what to use or should I just join it to the old harness and pull it through that way?

Trailer Help
Not yet cause they're all on. I assumed if the running lights were on then the bulbs were ok

Trailer Help
Hey guys. I'm having an issue with my trailer lights. The running lights are all on and working but when I put my blinkers on they're blinking so dimly you can barely see it happening. I assumed it was a ground issue and when I checked the main ground it was loose so I cleaned it and tightened it down but I'm still having the same problem. Any ideas?
