I'm actually just getting into baitcasters myself. I have been fly fishing for awhile and finally got tired of fighting the brush on my back casts. It is so much more enjoyable/productive fishing for bass and gar this way. Anyway, there are a lot of lakes you can get to from the shore just use Google maps and you can get a good idea of what the shores and access looks like. These are all North of you, but still pretty close. Lake Highland, Ivanhoe, Formosa, Estelle, Rowena, Mendsen (this one is at a park)...

Hey, I live in Winter Park and have a few public-access lakes/ponds I can get on whenever I want. What neighborhood in SW ORL are you in? I'm NE. Lake Underhill, Ivanhoe, and Baldwin are all easy to get on and are fishable from shore. Turkey Lake has boats you can rent. Look into the Fab Five Lakes and Orange County Parks and Rec. They promote fishing pretty well.
