  1. Lures for Lunker Bass is a great book.
  2. WS cried. Seemed like there was something going on back home because he had cousins there he didn't expect to see. Hope all is well with him and he can continue to fish competitively for a long time. Overall was a nice show and I was glad I got to see an old friend and meet a new one. Bass fisher people are definitely the best. Side note, I hit the Millenia lake for a bit before I went to the weigh in and caught a decent bass on my first cast of the Bobby Lane Havok craw in the Toho color.
  3. I use 15# YZH on a few of my bait casters. The rest have Sunline FX 2 60#. On one rod I have a long YZH 15# leader on Sunline. Very rarely do I have an issues breaking my YZH.
  4. I have 3 rods with 65# Sunline FX2 braid and 2 with 15# Yo-Zuri. I have been neglecting the YZ for awhile and have noticed a difference in memory over the last week or so. I fish almost every day so my lines get a lot of use. I have been telling myself that I'll gwt back to regularly putting the KVD LnL on. After a slew of overruns yesterday I'm finally going to listen to myself. KVD for sure.
  5. War Eagle 3/8 in the Mouse color is a killer in my area. I've never had an issue with the wire breaking, but the point of the head where the wire comes out always blows out so the head starts to wobble freely after a few dozen fish. I'll fish it that way until I can't keep the bait running true. It takes a while to get there so it's not a big issue. After the bait isn't working I disassemble it and save the blades to use for underspins or to screw into worms. I've used a few other brands, but the quality is always below WE. Less fish, cheap split rings, broken wires. I normally throw WEs on a 7' M Veritas with 15# Yo-Zuri. I'll switch to a 6'6" M if I'm in a tight spot. When I'm around heavy cover, lilly pads, grass, etc I prefer to switch to a 7' MH Veritas or 7'3" MH *** Black on 65# Sunline FX2. I don't use trailers or trailer hooks with these baits.
  6. What everyone else said, but I'd avoid using it in heavy cover because you'll most likely struggle to get your fish out or lose a lot of them.
  7. The Ike Renegade glasses at Wal-Mart are $25 and better than some more expensive glasses I have.
  8. Ha. I wouldn't put that past me. My spools are around 145 yards with 12# mono. I use 15# YZ so I have no idea exactly how much line I get on my reels.
  9. I put some cheap braid on as backing the other day. Was at about 30/70 with 50lb braid and 15lb Yo-Zuri. On my first cast I went down to my backing. Fished it that way for a few days then took the backing off and respooled with all Yo-Zuri. My experience is that backing isn't worth the time/effort.
  10. OP, why are you so apprehensive? What are you doubts?
  11. Flipping/punching heavy cover and skipping docks. I'm on the bank so it's not easy to get to good spots for either. I skipped a dock today and got one. Nothing to write home about, but it's worth writing on a forum.
  12. 4 Frog/top water Weightless plastic Spinnerbait Other
  13. So, when I show up to Toho this Sunday there's not going to be a food truck handing out Jimmy Houston hot dogs?

My issue with Hite is his main sponsors don't make anything I can easily add to my arsenal.
  15. I think Don Barone's "Open Letter" to Casey is his way of calling Casey out on this issue and a challenge to not rely on those piles.
  16. I got BPS rod socks and rod straps the other day. Life is much easier. I always pick up whatever War Eagle spinner baits are in stock at the Wal-Mart in my area. They are $1.50 cheaper than BPS. That's a regular part of my tackle maintenance.

  18. Are you getting one of the boats? I was PMing with FloridaFishinFool and he mentioned PMing you about our meetup plan Saturday. We are meeting at the UCF ponds around 1-2 pm for some bank fishing. The weather's probably going to be bad though. http://www.google.com/maps/place/Bright+House+Networks+Stadium/@28.6072775,-81.1895611,846m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x0000000000000000:0xb44c0e47766e8d3f

Brett Hite has a lot of good interviews about his chatter bait setups after he won on O last year. FLW podcast - http://www.flwoutdoors.com/fishing-articles/155627/flw-podcast-episode-15/#.VN4G5GjF8s8 Mark Zona - Ike Live -
  20. I have three Veritas 1s (7.5 MH, 7 M, and 6.5 M) and one Veritas 2 (7 M). The MH is a broom stick. The Ms are great IMHO and I can easily toss 1.0 silent square bills and weightless plastics as far as I need. If my Ms are what others call MH... I have had 2 of the 7.5 MHs and both had tip top issues. The first one had the guide ring fall out, and when I returned it BPS was out of the 7.5 MH so I got a 7 M. The second had the guide ring crack and half fall out last weekend. I replaced that last night with a 6/64 Fuji tip top last night. But, I guess since I've had the MH for close to two years, I should be happy with replacing a $2.50 tip top. Anyway, I recommend getting some spare tip tops. Other than that the rods are very sensitive, the Ms load extremely well, and the grips are holding up well. Sometimes the hoods on the 1s stick because they're metal on metal, but the 2s have a click hood that doesn't seem to have the same problem.
  21. I'm in Winter Park and game to meet up.
  22. I assume he's been instructed to keep his mouth shut until after the legal stuff works itself out.
  23. I was just thinking that I'd like to see a wider selection of the 20-something anglers on MLF. Especially when someone can't show up like Ike during the Denton, TX series they should have a list of non-regular anglers who are willing to show up on short notice. It's an 11.5 hour drive from Guntersville to Denton. There has to be someone who could make that length of a drive with just a few days notice. Anyway, I enjoy the MLF product and watch the DVDs regularly because I find more information the more I watch them.
  24. Well, the ponds across from the UCF stadium have some good ones. My biggest (6# 12) came out of the U-shaped pond on a mouse color War Eagle spinner bait at 2 pm with a heavy north wind. I've been told a guy got a 10# out of both ponds on Rebel Pop Rs early. Around sunrise if I remember right. I've been there around that time and they were definitely on the top water bite. The last time I was there I got 4 on a white KVD spinner and 1 on the Lazer Eye Shad in the U and 2 on the spinner out of the other. The biggest was 3# 8 and the rest were all around 2# with one around 1#. All in the afternoon with a cold high wind out of the west. It's definitely worth looking into if you can. Next time I go I'm going to be sure to also throw some 1.0 KVD silent square bills.
  25. That makes sense they'd be a bit further out. I did see some action around the banks, but they seemed small. I'm going to hit a pond behind Ikea after work tomorrow.
