  1. Yeah. I consider him a cheater because he changes the rules for a "good day" based on whatever is getting him bites. The best is when he gets skunked and says that all he cares about is being on the water. ?
  2. I have a friend who counts dinks when we are fishing. He'll reel in 10 dinks under a pound. I'll bring in 3-4 fish anywhere from 2-5 pounds. The whole time he will be crowing about how he's beating me like a drum and that I am a sub-par fisherman. When I'm having a bad day and only getting dinks he will go on and on about the one 5 pounder he caught and how great he is at finding the big ones. Never a dull moment with that guy.
  3. Let's go John Cox! *baseball clap*
  4. Whoever handles Jed's marketing plan needs a refresher on how "word of mouth" works in the bass fishing world.
  5. Tom and Jed got reamed out by Dudley care of Luke Dunkin's latest podcast.
  6. You could see how disappointed Cox was at the final weigh in. Was puling for him as usual.
  7. Maybe I'm just a sour puss, but FLW/MLF/BPT just seems so dang weak this season.
  8. Did not expect to see TM with the trophy and am not unhappy about it. Nice to see seasoned pros doing well.
  9. redux replied to Rpratt's topic in Tournament Talk
Pending angler votes BPT could be going to entry fees in 2021...I imagine there is going to be some movement in the field if fees go into effect.
  10. Detailed discussion about: Bass behavior and environment Pattern fishing Lure history When and how to use lures Stories form the pros and Joes Night fishing This is from 1989 so a lot of the lures themselves have drastically changed (or are out of production), but the philosophy and approach are timeless. Also, it is not focused on tournament angling at all. It is about catching big bass and is a bit more of a hunting approach to the sport.
  11. AFTCO and Columbia have long sleeve, hooded shirts with integrated buffs that are nice.
  12. The books that come to mind: Lures for Lunker Bass - Bud Andrews Hannon's Big Bass Magic - Doug Hannon Both KVD books (We need number 3!) Fishing on the Edge - Mike Iaconelli
  13. Yeah, two banner days in a row were really nice. Followed that up today by getting skunked on the river and breaking the steering cable on my trolling motor. I didn't see anything in the schedule for that! ?
  14. I mainly use the standard Florida colors with pretty good success. But it really depends on the water clarity and time of year. And the moon phase Black and Blue Black and purple June bug/candy bug Watermelon red flake Watermelon and blue However, off-the-wall colors will work so I always carry something a bit silly to remind me to not be too serious.
  15. Went back to the same spot today. Only got 5 but the big one was 6 pounds 10 ounces. The rest totaled 13+. Supposed to be a "better" day according to the moon phase. Still only using it as a data point and not planning my life around it.
  16. Funny enough it was amazing for me. Moon was out with the sun the whole time and nearly full. 10 fish. They were all skinny post spawners that ranged from 5+ to 2.5 with 1 at 1.5. I lost a single 3+ at the kayak. Best 5 went 5+, 4+, 4+, 3+, 3+. All on a 100x100 yard stretch of patchy grass from 2-8 feet deep. First one was on a small watermelon red swim bait. The rest were evenly split on a 1/2 black and blue swim jig and a 3/8 green and blue spinner bait. Guess I should edit my previous post
  17. I know a guy who was banned from a forum for going crazy with detailed posts about other people's favorite fishery. Posting articles, state water management reports, detailed maps, etc. He was asked publicly and privately to stop posting about it, did not listen, got banned, was uninvited from fishing trips, and lost friends. I went ahead and met up with them for a trip on this specific series of lakes. I was expecting them to be tough on me since they know I am friends with him, but they were all very friendly and we all had a good day fishing. The thing that really sucks is all of them would have welcomed him if he bothered to show up and apologize. There's nothing wrong with a friendly note. However, things can escalate depending on how people chose to respond. Be nice and clear then let him make his own decision.
  18. I've used one for years. I take it as a data point (feeding/hunting intensity), and do not plan when I go fishing around it because I want to fish nearly every day. What I do use the schedule for is setting my expectations for how much of a grind the day may be, likely fish locations, and plan for that. More senkos, more bottom contact baits, and slow presentations and retrieves in cover on low score days. More reaction baits, flash, and moving baits around cover and in more open water on high score days. I have a friend who always looks at the daily number and plans all his fishing around it. He also is getting to the point where he hates tough fishing and only wants to catch easy fish (AKA he is getting lazy and has low motivation). Too bad he does no better on low days vs high days because he does not change his approach at all. 2"-4" white or watermelon weightless paddle tails in lilly pads. Sometimes it pays off. Usually it does not. The guy who introduced me to the schedules caught his PB (10+ on a senko in grass) on a day the schedule said fishing was going to be poor. Yes, he only caught one fish that day, but it was a big one! Down here in Florida the weather is way more important than the moon cycle, in general. Around the spawn the moon will impact the number of fish moving up, but water temperatures and fronts are more important in my experience from day to day.
  19. I always over pack. Fill the cooler up even when I know I won't use it all during an 8+ hour trip. Usually: 12" Sub (half in the morning and half in the afternoon) or a couple peanut butter and honey sandwiches Chips Slim fast 2 quarts of Gatorade 2 cans of Arizona iced tea 1 quart of water
  20. I recommend saving up for a bit and buy something above $400. Why? The seats in cheap kayaks are trash. Between transporting and loading the kayak, paddling, and all the twisting you will do fishing they simply do not have enough support to keep your lower back in a good position. Last year I was at my friend's in-law's river house and we fished from cheap sit-in kayaks a few hours a day for three days. I ended up with a bad case of sciatica and could barely walk for two weeks. It took two months for it to completely go away and I could not manage to even bank fish for more than 15 minutes before the pain sent me packing. I recently bough a Bonafide S127 and have been using it 5-6 days a week for 4-6 hours each trip the the past six weeks and have never once had any pain or discomfort. Why? The seat. Yes, the kayak I have is way above the $400 mark. However, you still need to find something with a good seat. The Ascend kayaks seem to have good seats. I was looking into those for a long time before I decided on the Bonafide. Definitely look at the used market to get a good deal on someone's lost dream. BTW, I am not a big person. 5'9" and 160 pounds and have always been active.
  21. I use 4-strand 40# and 65# Power Pro on my bait casters. The 40# is for normal fishing and the 65# is for heavy cover. When I find it I always go with the Max Quatro because it is thinner and I can get more on the spool. For my spinning setups I like 20# 4-strand Power Pro.
  22. I have one. When I got it it was a massive upgrade from my Revo SX. Although it is a good reel it's a backup in case I ever have an issue with one of my Curado 71s. Considering I have more of those than I use on an average day it is going to sit quietly on my shelf with the Revos and Curado Ks.
  23. Did any of you Washington state anglers attend the protest on Lake Union in Seattle yesterday?
  24. I'll go out in my kayak up to 13 assuming I can launch in an area that breaks wind. I'll go out in my boat up to 17 and go to areas that break wind. We were out last night in my friend's boat in 15 sustained with 20+ gusts. Things were ok until the gusts came and blew us across half way across the cove in 5 seconds.
  25. I just bought another Curado 71. Never had an issue with ebay. Buy it!!!
