  1. The owner ultrahead is an awesome jighead for small keitechs. 1/8 is the lightest they make. Oukast tackle makes a 1/16oz head with a small, stout hook if you need something lighter. "Money Jig".
  2. The measuring device is a requirement for the record, and not many people have it since it costs like 50 bucks. Its not a world record IMO, just a "those who have the measuring device" record.
  3. This is the only place I can get information and feedback from consistently. People on local forums are way too tight lipped and competitive, this site doesn't have that atmosphere. It's honestly easier to get even really specific info by just asking here, threads on other forums are often months or years old because people are unwilling to share information. Keep up the good work administration and members!
  4. I can assure you that several large trout imitations will be in the boat with us.
  5. I have a not-so-good memory of jumping out of my kayak in chest deep water and sticking my whole arm into a brush pile to the point that I had my hands on the 4lber, who then surged and broke me off. All the things we do for a silly green fish
  6. Walmart 4.99 Yum sunglasses are what I fish with after my costas flew off my head this winter while running my boat. I doubt I will ever buy costas, my reason for having them was because I won them in a tournament. Glasses are valuable, but not nearly as valuable as all the other expensive equipment needed to bass fish. I will say that I have my glasses on far more than most when bass fishing, I don't understand how some guys fish without having them on. Sure you might not be bed fishing, but I bet there is a chance you will move past a stump that you otherwise wouldn't see, or spot that fish following your bait while it is still far enough away for you to have a chance at making it bite, etc etc!
  7. I catch wayyy more fish per bait with the TRDs, the zinkerz cut in half seem to come off the jighead very easily. TRDs will float right out of the package but with a zinker it takes time.
  8. The reservoir is well over 100' deep in several places and is mostly deeper than 60'. Would they be deeper than 100'? Where?
  9. Long arming some 14"ers for all the folks that love it. I caught about 30 of them drop shotting some brush piles, it was pretty neat, I dropped to the individual fish a couple times.
  10. I am going to head to South Holston Lake for two days of fishing pretty soon, and while most of my time will be spent targeting bass, I plan to give the trout some attention. The lake has brown, rainbow, and lake trout stocked in it and from what I have seen it appears as though there is a pretty high population in the lake. In the spring we saw lots of trout just cruising on the surface, chasing bait, and jumping (also had a lake trout chase my a-rig to the boat). When I was there this summer I still saw some cruising on the surface, as well as seeing two smallmouth trying to eat one. If I can mark some fish around schools of bait (which I did last time), I will probably net some alewives and fish them on downlines like I do for stripers. There isn't a lot of info on trout fishing the lake because all of the attention is on its tailwater and fly fishing. At this point my plan is to run small spoons behind deep diving crankbaits, because I really have no idea what depths my baits would be running at if I used lead. Last time I was there we caught a brown trout on a deep crank so there's a good chance we can catch some on those too. Anybody know much about South Holston trout or trout in East Tennessee reservoirs in general?
  11. Had some fun with a TRD and my conquest 50 today
  12. I like throwing baits that match the forage really well so I can catch a bunch of different species, particularly if the fish in a body of water are chasing schools of baitfish, because then there will be a lot of species in one area that can be caught on similar baits. Blade baits in the wintertime are really fun because you catch all sorts of fish on them. I also tend to catch multiple species on jerkbaits in clear water. On an Alabama rig when fish are chasing bait, I have caught largemouth, pickerel, crappie, walleye, white perch, stripers, and almost a lake trout on one occasion. A small keitech on a jighead is also a deadly multi species bait when they are keyed in on baitfish.
  13. I'm not sure on this one, it seems to really vary. On most lakes, I rarely get bites during the time that a boat wake is influencing the area I'm fishing. However, on Smith Mountain Lake in May, my partner and I were crushing them in a tournament while house boats were nearly tossing us out of the boat with their wakes. On Lay Lake in Alabama, on the last day of the college event I fished, I had motor problems and had to leave it idling for the last 30 minutes of fishing. The rules do allow you to keep fishing if the boat is idling, and that is what I was doing when I made my final cull pitching a jig fairly close to the boat!
  14. I would be one of those guys. Maybe it would be different if I had the right equipment for night fishing, but even though I was able to connect with a 3.5lb smallmouth on a deep crank at 11pm, it was the first time fishing that I came away thinking "this is not for me". And I'll gladly fish in some crazy weather/conditions.
  15. Try 5 and change, I take good pictures. Very good eating, we use fiddler and hermit crabs.
  16. My friend has a cast on his foot so we camped out on the dam of a pond in lawn chairs and finesse fished. 6lb test and hyrdilla doesn't mix well, but I was able to land this fish, measured 20"! Weightless 6" roboworm wacky rigged
  17. Never thought about it until you made this point, but snails absolutely grow bigger bluegills
  18. As stated above, hooksets in kayaks are completely different than hooksets from those in a boat or from shore, it's a difficult learning curve and going back and forth between the two will throw you for a loop! Good job and tight lines!
  19. Looks like a Kentucky strain spotted bass to me, I catch a lot of little ones like that in West Virginia. At least 80% of the ones I catch have red eyes.
  20. Booyah Pad crasher JR, bend the hooks out a little with pliers too
  21. One of my favorite rods is a rod that was originally for a baitcaster. The guy who owned it didn't like it, and decided to strip the first three guides off of it, replace them with spinning guides, and shave off the pistol grip. Hundreds of bass have fallen victim to a drop shot on that rod since he gave it to me
  22. I have, but I find typically if there is that much wind on a point, the fish will be more active and spread out so it is not an issue if I am moving around a little bit on the trolling motor throwing a moving bait.
  23. My main concern with building a 5' deep pond would be silt turning it into a 2' deep pond after a few years. My childhood pond went from 8-10' max to 5-6' max when some people built a house at the headwaters of the feeder creek which exposed a lot of silt for runoff. Real shame.
  24. Thank you for the suggestion but I have a feeling it would be cheaper to buy another one than to drive and pay for that!
