  1. Gorgeous fish, all filled out and colored up too!
  2. That's the "next bite will finish straightening this" jig
  3. When I was 11 or 12 years old, I was wading a river with my friend catching bluegills. We were throwing trout magnets on 4lb test. I hooked a bluegill, and then a 20" largemouth came out from under a laydown and ate it. The fish then somehow managed to hook itself on the #10 light wire trout magnet jighead, then peeled drag heading underneath a log facing upstream/downstream. The fish was still fighting and jumping on the other side of the log, somehow not breaking the 4lb test, so I waded out, took the whole rod underneath the log, and continued to fight and land the fish!
  4. Inline buzzbaits result in a ton of missed fish for me
  5. Largemouth have a bad reputation because the equipment we use is designed to handle the baits we use, and the places we catch the fish, not the fish themselves.
  6. You need to get a MS slammer. Seems as though it's like crack for those northeast fish
  7. August first is the first official practice day, and day one of the event is the 4th. Hopefully my partner and I will make the top 12 so we can fish on day 3 for some scholarship money! Either way, I get to bass fish on Kentucky Lake for a pretty good chunk of time. I told my partner we have to weigh at least one fish over 5lbs so Dave Mercer can do his "g-g-g-g-giant bass" for us at the weigh in. I will do my best to keep you guys updated on how we are doing. Anybody else from the forum going to be there?
  8. You better listen to Wayne about that wacky rig haha
  9. Try pitching jigs at visible cover. That's how I got started with them, and even still I don't catch many dragging or hopping a jig, but I can burn it down with a flipping stick and a half ounce jig.
  10. I got 3rd place in a High School event at Aquia fishing against 30+ boats, with 2 bass, for 5lbs. Definitely can be fickle in the summer!
  11. It's awesome when things like that happen, and the more time you spend outdoors, the more cool things you get to witness! I saw a black bear who is supposed to eat "berries and grasses" kill a deer and drag it off no more than 30 yards behind me one time.
  12. Shimano Sienna 2500 is an incredibly good reel for $30
  13. Despite the awesome looking timber
  14. If it is the lake's fish and game warden, you have bigger problems to deal with than getting your fishing rod back!
  15. My brother and I took kayaks to a stretch of the Shenandoah River today and had a pretty good time! Between the two of us we landed 8 largemouth and over 40 smallmouth. No big ones today, we had a couple of chances but just couldn't make it happen All of the largemouth were caught pitching jigs and texas rigs to wood, that is usually the only way we catch them there. The smallmouth were caught on a variety of baits, trick worm on a wacky jighead, shakey head, swimbait, crankbait, jig, texas rig, and my tried and true smallmouth-getter, a 4" stick bait on a 1/16oz texas rig. I can't get over how pretty those river bass are
  16. Zona and Sanders were cracking up the whole time about how strange everything was
  17. If you aren't watching right now, you should be! KVD and Kody Kreiger are tied at 11-0 with 18 minutes left!
  18. If you have a kayak, fish the hot side! There aren't many big ones (although I can tell you there is at least one GIANT ) , but there are a pile of fish, and since it is private, there are less "recreaters" so boat wakes aren't as much of an issue this time of year. I went last month and we crushed them fishing drop shots in 20-35 FOW, lots of schooling fish on the surface as well. Put the kayaks in at dike 3, just carry them across the road and GO!
  19. I just read about that and I don't agree with it. But if doing that doesn't break any rules, more power to them.
  20. http://www.uppermidwestswimbaits.com/ums-blog/swimbaiting-in-the-midwest-enter-the-swimshot
  21. When I find bass doing that, I use a carolina rig with corn. Gets them every time!
  22. There's some guy who fishes what he calls a "swim shot" in the midwest, I think he had a blog or something that I stumbed across. I've seen him use a mattlures hardgill on a drop shot rig, so anything is possible. Keitech would also be my reccomendation
