  1. My best advice would be to fish some ponds so you learn how to work the baits. Fish in pond only have so much space to travel so you won't have a hard time finding them, this leads to more time for figuring out how to get bit. Once you have some confidence baits, head out and apply your knowledge on a bigger body of water.
  2. St. Croix Mojobass swimbait rod 1-4oz
  3. I had been rage rigging paca craws for the better part of a year before I found out what a rage rig was!
  4. Prestige. Who wouldn't want to spend $25 on a rico when they could spend $5 on a Pop-R? I own a couple swimbaits in the $50-$100 range so I'm not in any position to talk about it I guess
  5. Well uhh obviously a fish head spin with a mini swimmin fluke. No longer will Livingston red craw colored cranks work, those only worked last year.
  6. I didn't catch any slabs in 2014, but this is a fish from 2013, 13&1/4" long, my PB crappie. The bass was released, can't say the same for the crappie. My little brother landed two 14"ers in one day from his kayak back in November on lake anna...One of them hit a 6XD! I was jealous.
  7. I was in love with the 1500s, such a shame to see them go
  8. I always see bass pin bluegills on the bank and mash them during pre spawn. I also see smaller bass chase shad fry in open water mid summer. What's really exciting is paddling a kayak up next to a striper boil and cast to them while they chase shad. Stripers are LOUD
  9. I thought I read that somewhere, but I wasn't sure. Still waiting to stumble upon a spot, we don't have them around here
  10. Kentucky Spots and Alabama Spots are very different strains. The giants in CA would be non existent if Kentucky spots were introduced rather than Alabama spots.
  11. Wow 3 hardgills, I'm jealous! You just gonna dead stick those straight tailed soft gills? Floaters I'm assuming? Slammers seem to whoop them in the northeast
  12. That lake is cranking out some ridiculous spots!
  13. Light will not be the name of the game in 40 FOW
  14. This thread was just resurrected in winter, the post was in August
  15. 2014 was my first year targeting bass, fished for them from January through December, and I caught bass in every month. Also my first year fishing with a baitcaster. I learned what swimbaits can do, and landed some really nice fish on them, as well as moving and seeing some fish that I will be targeting this spring. Landed 5 largemouth over 5lbs, and my PB smallie that taped out at 23". I'd give 2014 a B, I had a blast and learned a LOT, but there is plenty of room for improvement. Baits I had never used before, but now (I think) I have a halfway decent idea on how to fish, and caught bass on in 2014: Drop Shot Flipping Jig Shakey Head Lipless Crankbait Football Jig Big Swimbait "Small Swimbait" Blade Bait Jerk Bait Squarebill Mid Range Crank Frog Baits I need to learn: Deep Diving Crankbait Ned Rig A-rig Swim Jig Carolina Rig Spybait Tube Flutter/Jigging Spoon Shad Rap for Cold Water
  16. A 250 on the east coast where the fish don't see them much should be pretty exciting. Of course, your fish may have already seen a 250 compliments of SpeedBead!
  17. I think you mean you stole the baits for $50 and $70! What a deal
  18. That's my reasoning for not really wanting one, if I spent that kind of $$$ and ended up with a bait that is quirky and difficult to fish, I would not be a happy camper.
  19. Brush hogs keep catching when the legs tear off!
  20. Iaconelli doubled up on a tandem rig of flukes, where are the A-rig haters to say something about that ?
  21. Yes you do! My brothers and I landed 11 rainbows through the ice this morning, mostly on power eggs.
  22. Let's build featureless concrete pits with no cover, stock them with a sterile strain of bass that maxes out at 5lbs, regulate the water temperature so it's 65 degrees year-round, make everyone use the same equipment, and take away their fishfinders. Bass fishing isn't comparable to other sports IMO and rules can't make it that way. Lucking into an 8-10 pound kicker would be like a touchdown randomly counting as 15 points, a regulation ball would be like having a regulation crankbait. Casey Ashley didn't break any rules, theoretically speaking anyone in the classic could plant as many brush piles as they wanted, so it's fine by me.
  23. The arctic blast gave us a couple days of safe ice here in Central VA on small ponds, and my brothers and I did pretty well! Surely I am not the only one who has gone stir crazy enough to do this? Even got a green fish
