  1. I like the Berkeley trilene 100%. I've used 20 pound as main line for flipping. I fish all of docks and brush piles, trees with it. I like it for flipping and pitching, it's tough as heck.
  2. I agree with the above post. I use the 7'0 Powell diesel rod for small and medium lipless cranks as well as square bills and smaller profile medium- deep diving baits. It's a little light for the heavy cranks, but the 7'5 rod would prob be fine for them. Fantastic rod for the price. T warehouse has them for 59 bucks I believe.
  3. Go check out the rods you are looking at buying in person. They actions vary a lot from brand to brand. A medium heavy fast tipped rod can feel totally different from two different manufacturers.
  4. Check fishing shows, this time of year where I live are when fishing shows are going on. You can usually score some good rods that are usually in the 100$ range on sale much cheaper. Also check sites like t warehouse, they usually have some rods on sale for a good price. Here are some examples of lengths and tips I use. Keep in mind everyone has different preferences. 7'0 medium heavy moderate tip- shallow cranks, smaller lipless cranks and hard jerkbaits 7'3 medium heavy moderate fast tip- spinner baits and top water with single hooks 7'3 medium heavy fast tip- jigs and Texas rigged worms and Carolina rig 7'6 heavy fast tip- flipping and punching 7'8 medium heavy moderate tip- deep cranks as well as bigger lipless cranks I think there are several choices in the 100$ range you would be happy with, as well as reels in the 100-150 dollar range that you will be happy with.
  5. There is none. Just if you already had tatula and had problems with the system, which doesn't seen like a issue.
  6. I should've specified more, I've read a lot about the tatula reviews and such and it seems like a good reel, so I decided to check price on twh and that's where I seen bad review about the grooving, but some people could tear up anything. I just some people claimed the t wing on the t3 was "cheaply made" and figured it may have been a problem on tatula. It was only one bad review on tatula, really. Like I said there are bad reviews on all reels, and a lot of those guys that write reviews on twh prob treat their stuff rough. Anyway it seems since you can get this reel cheap, that it'd be worth it. I've also seen the bb1 for similar prices, which is a reel that I love. Only thing I wish it had was adjustability from side plate.
  7. There is a review on *** with the new tatula. Said him and a few friends are having trouble with the t wing system grooving. Grooving with flouro and braid. I understand there are always bad reviews for all reels though. May just be a problem with a small run of reels. They look like a well built reel for the price and I guess it'd be worth a shot for the 110 bucks that you can find them for.
  8. I have no experience with the tatula, but have read a lot about it. It seems people are having trouble with the t wing system. Evidently the line is cutting into the material on the t wing. Kinda makes me shy away from the reel, which is a shame because everyone says it's a well put together reel. I wonder if there's a way to do away with the t wing cheap and just put a eye on the worm gear? Interested in seeing if anyone has modified one.
  9. Thanks guys.
  10. I believe your thinking of the regular mg that's got a composite frame, not the tournament mg. I've been thinking of getting tournament mg for my flipping rod. I'll end up with either that of the bb1, which is more of a heavy crankbait reel, but the bb1 is pretty light and I think it'd make a good flipping reel too.
  11. I like the glass rods, since switching to them I have lost way way less fish cranking. I have a rick clunn glass rod, the 7'8 version and it's a heavy big rod, but I like it pretty well, I'm sure there are better choices, but it gets the job done for me. I only throw my deep divers and bigger lipless cranks on it. I also use Powell diesel 7'0 rod and it's light as a feather, I use it for squarebills, smaller lipless cranks, and jerkbaits. It's a great feeling rod and I love it. The glass rods let you fight a fish that's not hooked very well, and get it in the boat, something I couldn't do with graphite style rods that I used to have.
  12. I have noticed since using glass cranking rods, that I've lost a lot less fish. I use moderate-fast tip. Now people will say you lose some sensitivity withthe glass rods, but to me that's not a huge deal when cranking to me. I can still feel the rocks and any structure I'm fishing with them. I also feel with the glass rods that I don't get hung up near as much. I've recommended this rod a lot and it's a good rod for small to medium cranks, and seems to do well with jerkbaits also. The Powell diesel glass cranking rod. http://www.***.com/Powell_Diesel_Glass_Crankbait_Casting_Rods/descpage-PDCCR.html It's 7'0 long and very light. Don't let the price fool you, it's a great feeling rod and very well balanced, and at 55-60 bucks, you can't go wrong. It's cheap enough to try and I believe you would be happy with it. I mostly throw squarebills on it and smaller body cranks with it. Now I said earlier that sensitivity is usually lost with glass, but with this rod it's not the case, when throwing the squarebills I can feel the cover I'm knocking into very well. Like I said this is a light rod and I have a citica 200e on the rod, I can fish all day with the squarebills on this thing and not be worn out a bit. Try the rod, it's cheap, and I almost garuntee you will like it. Just my 2 cents.
  13. I use the Powell diesel 7'0 cranking rod, super light and works great with squarebills. If I'm not mistaken they are on sale right now also. Best 60 dollar rod I've ever used.
  14. I use pline ćxx on my square bill setup. Powell diesel with a citica e. I use the 12 lb test ćxx and it has yet to let me down, the stuff is strong and pretty abrasive resistant.
  15. What's up guys, searching the web a few days ago and came across this site and started reading some threads and searching the site. Lots of good info. I live in tn close to knoxville, and fish mostly on watts bar lake. 26 years old and have been fishing for several years, but just getting serious about it last 3 years or so. Anyways, this seems like a good site and look forward to participating.
