  1. I have never used the STX yet, where I have a season under my belt with the SX, so its definitely broken in. But I really feel like its not a matter of the STX being broken in.
  2. when you unscrew the sideplate thumbscrew you have to pull it towards the reel handle.
  3. I can click the spool button on my STX and spin the spool manually and it spins forever, so I dont believe the braking system. I think the gear system when reeling isnt as smooth as the shimano or my other revos. Maybe I just need to mess with it more to break it in a little bit better, or its possible I got the one bad reel out of a lot like when you see the 1 bad review out of 20 reviews talking about something grinding.
  4. I am looking at the zillion too. maybe to balance out my duckett flipping stick.
  5. Oh I agree 100% I believe you can possibly lose out on something good when you dont have variety. but the ci4+ makes me think i can put that 200$ for the STX to better use. I love my revo sx and winch. Im not knocking revos. the stx just feels different. I wish I could remember if my sx and winch felt the same as the stx does before i broke them in.
  6. That's what I was leaning toward as well. If the balance point was behind the reel, you either still need a balancer on the butt or a lighter reel.
  7. Chronarch CI4+ 150....I'm in love. Much smoother than my Revo STX which is brand new out of the box. Not smoother than my SX or Winch but those were used for a season are actually broken in. It almost has made me consider returning the STX and buy another Shimano.
  8. I was thinking of a daiwa zillion or ardent f700. I can test out my buddy's f700 which could help me make my decision since i have no experience with zillions. If i'm not mistaken both of those reels have the closest max drag to revos.
  9. if you want to use the reel as the fulcrum or balancing point then the position of the hook keeper which is my current fulcrum definitely matters. If the hook keeper is in front of the reel and its tips heavy that means i need a heavier reel. if the hook keeper was behind the reel and it was still tip heavy, then i need a lighter reel.
  10. i need a bigger/heavier reel to bring the balance point closer to the reel seat i'd think.
  11. I bought a 7'6 XH Duckett Micro Magic a little while back and paired it with a Revo STX. It's not balanced at all. The balance point is about a finger width above the hook keeper. The STX weighs about 6.46 oz. Anyone know how much heavier of a reel I should get to better balance the rod? Maybe like a 7.5 ounce? I'll just put the STX on something else.
  12. What about a brand like Dobyns? They offer a rods like the 705CB and 705CB glass. Does the softer glass offer any more advantage? Both rods have the parabolic bend of a crankbait rod.
  13. Ive only used original PowerPro. Never had a reason to use anything else.
  14. I'm surprised I havent seen anything about Duckett Micro Magics or Micro Magic Cranking rods on this thread. I have never personally used one for crankbaits but I figured they would work well. Anyone have input on that?
  15. Well I was kind of hoping to get two birds with one stone with these techniques but with all the responses I'm thinking that may be highly unlikely. Oh well! Guess I have an excuse to buy more rods!
  16. Ask Scott Martin . He seems to love them! But then again he's sponsored by Okuma
  17. The bassmaster's classic trade-in deal last year, the one by my house had little 5$ cheap spin casts reels that you could buy and use for your trade in(proceeds went to a charity). I did that and it counted for 30$ or whatever off of one of my revos. I wonder if they'll do something like again or if there will be restrictions to get the curado for that price.
  18. You I felt the exact same on saturday night. You know it's a good sale when you lose sleep over the amazing deals! Im hoping theres deals that can rival them at the bassmaster classic sale.
  19. I think this whole bandwagon thing is ridiculous. If someone hears a ton of good reviews about a brand, of course they are going to try it. It's called having a good product and word-of-mouth marketing. That guy is giving someone crap about hopping on the Dobyns bandwagon, yet he is all Powell this and Powell that. Sounds like someone is on the "Powell bandwagon" according to his perspective on bandwagons.
  20. Thinking I'm going to do a 705CB for squarebills and 684CB topwater/jerkbaits.
  21. Yeah the site has been shotty all day. Its not working again for me. Luckily I got my order in when I could. I wonder if they just shut the servers down for it to stop the flood of orders on the crazy sales.
  22. I know for a fact it said 202$ yesterday where it says "sale! 269$" in red. Thats how I found out about it in the first place. The site server was down earlier, then when it came back up, the red sale price was changed back to 269$. Doesnt matter now though, its a great deal either way!!
  23. No mistake. it said 202$ on the main list yesterday. They changed it to 269$ on the main screen but left the 202$ in the description. more than likely the sale will be over soon and they are starting to change the prices back on the site.
  24. Yeah, bought a bunch of stuff yesterday and caved in and bought a CI4+ today! I even splurged and got 2nd day air lol
