  1. Laser will deal with some punishment but that all composite frame will eventually wear down. Ive used mine for a year now and its still pretty solid but you can hear the frame tweaking as you put load on it (weeds, fish, casting). I put mine through hell its still kicking The Aluminum frame and extra bearings is a nice upgrade and you will feel the difference. Feels solid and a good bit smoother. Now each Ive used with weightless trick worms, and upto 1oz jigs. If I had to offer a suggestion I would say get the SpeedSpool LFS for 100$ I definitly plan on it.
  2. I really need to come fish with you sometime. Glades looks like to much fun.
  3. Starting this thread for everyone located in the Central Florida Area. Post up your reports, share tecniques etc. I'll try to document my own experiences this month.
  4. Wish I could help. Unfortunitly I dont know any guides. Hope you do have fun though.
  5. Oh as far as the line goes.... Braid on spinning reels can be trouble some. I know a lot of guys use it but I would recomend not using it. The reason being is using no weight lures (sinkos) the line will find a way to dig into the spool as soon as any pressure is applied to it. Especially smaller lb braids. This was my biggest issue I use to have with a similare setup. I would go with a better quality mono and have at it. Just remember to try and keep the fish out of the vegitation. Mono might not be able to pull them back out of it.
  6. Get up in the grass. If I had to take a guess. The fish are hanging out deep as they can in the day and hunting shallow in the morning/night. For deep water texas rigged sounds good. 1/8 to 1/4 ounce bullet weight. Bobber stopper 1/2cm infront of the weight. Skip a worm slowly across the top of the suberged vegitation (if its grass) or slow crawl in the breaks between grass. Small square bill crankbaits, frogs, jerk baits, top water (zara puppy) if you ever see them chasing near the shore line. Hope that helps some.
  7. Been taking your canoe Shanes?
  8. Just be ready to hit submerged sticks. Take it slow. Real slow.
  9. I found a schematic of a really similare reel. It got me in the correct order. Had one spacer out of place that messed everything up. Feels better then new and already ripping bass out of the water.
  10. Good old where have the fish gone. Try crankbaits on ledges. I bet they are there.
  11. I took my Lews Speedspool Laser apart to give it a cleaning and some lube. I followed the bait caster cleaning video on here but ran into a slight problem. The drag is sitting to close to the main body now and as I tighten the drag the reel becomes stiffer. Im almost positive this is an error i made somewhere in putting it back together. I looked for a drawing of the parts online to double check the order of parts but couldnt find it. Anyone can help I would much appreciate it.
  12. Nice Hawgenvy. Was good to read too. I been meaning to get back into the swimmers. Got caught up using gamblers I forgot how much I like the softer plastic. So tonight I gave a kvd square bill a little work. Some dinks and two 3lbers.
  13. I do know of a few deep ponds no one ever fishes. I lost my live target frog at one when a 3-4lber wrapped me up on a cable. Swimming a jig at night landed me a few as well. Fishing water fountains at night is interesting. The bass lurke outside the light and swim in for the kill.
  14. Bank fishing here near the Tohos has been rough. The heat has definitly pushed them farther off shore and into deeper water.
  15. Yep. Shes healthy as can be and accompanied me fishing already. She had a slight case of Jaundice. I figured a little indirect sunlight under some trees for an hour would go a long way. Did some test the next day. Results came back and it was all cleared up.
  16. Speaking of dinks.... My daughter was born this past weekend. Coming in at 6lbs and 5oz. She is a keeper
  17. This lil guy is a good example of how little fish eat big baits.
  18. Just have to be quicker then the gator lol.
  19. Is that a felony to keep that many?
  20. Would anybody be opposed to a new FL law that does not allow the keeping of bass during spawning season? Ive seen to many full of eggs being kept this year. Thats a lot of potential fish disapearing.
  21. Bring a headlamp with red light/lense. This wont bother the fish but makes all the gators eyes glow real bright.
  22. Smoky how long have you been in? If you are an E4 or below and this is your first time coming home. Dont spend all your cash on a new boat right away. Definitly find a nice preowned and use the savings to get the equipment you want for the boat (depth/fish finders, anchors, marker bouyes etc...). Here in florida especially a lot of older folks are going into nursing homes and sell their amazing nitros/trackers/rangers really cheap. A road trip to another state might be well worth it.
  23. Ive had a bad time with worms and jigs lately. The frog seems like it gets hit the most though. Crankbaits / jerkbaits have been the most steady bite.
  24. Not doing much fishing lately but decided I wanted this rig. Lews Speed Spool 6.4:1 Berkley Medium Heavy Lightning Shock 7' Spiderwire 50lb Going to use it for Crankbaits mostly.
  25. Only time I would be really afraid of gators is when a female is on Eggs. Mess with her she will eat you. The rest are predictable usually.
