  1. Fished Sunday afternoon and decided to head to Palo G. to stay out of the wind. Fished some points in main creek and picked up a 15" fish on a KVD lipless crank (shad) in about 10 fow. Saw some other guys pick up two fish on a chrome trap. Decided to fish a creek channel into a large cove. Tried to stay on the creek edge and work the lure from the middle of the creek, deep to shallow. No luck. I found a bank that was grassy and had a steep drop off. Picked up a few fish: one 3 and the other 2 lbs. Lost a 4 at the boat and had 3 other good hits. Caught them on a WMR senko. The key seemed to be the steep bank with grass, as there were no strikes on the shallower side. Water in Palo is clear. Temp 55-58. Was going to fish today, but was too darn cold. Going to try to be back on the bend in two weeks.
  2. Big congrats to bass finatic!!
  3. Tough day. Started off fishing mouth of Lowes (ridges). South wind at 5-10. Water temp 55. Jigs, traps, lizards...nothing. Got socked in the fog. Then moved to millionaire point and fished shallow and deep---0. Fished a hump off the river (6-30 feet)---0. Fished the oil well area---0. Got a tip that fish were on beds in back of Lowes, so I decided to make that run to try to get the kids on some----lost one on a fluke and that was it. We fished flats, humps and main creek-- nothing. water temp 60. Decided to end the day in Louisiana, so fished the main creek of salters, 15 feet +\ 3. Tried the flats as well--- nothing. In summary fished at lot of various terrain and techniques, but came up short. Threw everything imaginable: jig, spinner, lizard, senko, wacky, fluke. Biggest problem I had was grass (2-8 feet), made it impossible to work baits. This is first time I ever fished a jig (for bass), so maybe that's part of the problem. Suggestions???
  4. Hot off the presses. Ran into a friend at toledo tackle. Said he fished 6 mile and did well in 2 fow with wacky worms.
  5. I'll be out there too. Plan on fishing Sat. through Tues (weather permitting). Will keep you posted.
  6. Well guys, you got another newbie on this thing. I stumbled across the bass resource website by accident. I've been reading this thread, from its beginning. Its awesome to see group of men that aren't greedy and are willing to share their techniques and experience. I go to the bend a few times a year, but this year I'm going to really try to become a better bass fisherman. My PB is 8 lb. I've spent most of my life in the GOM, chasing billfish, tuna, etc., so structure/bottom, I understand. Like you, Catt, my dad taught me how to navigate and find reefs with a compass, a chart, and a loran unit. My bass "education" began with fishing in the small ponds and lakes in Evangeline Parish, where I was born and raised. My first bend experience was when I was ten years old. My godfather took me to fin and feathers. We were bream fishing. I decided to throw out a rogue and caught a 2 pounder on the old zebco. I've wanted to catch a double digit ever since. I've been studying the map and using my chart navigator to find the waypoints. I'm headed to the pond on Feb 28th with the family. I'll be launching at twin island and I plan to start at Lowe's and work my way south, concentrating on ridges, points, and humps near the river and major creeks. My top three baits to start will be: jig and craw (blue/black), WMR lizard, and a crawfish colored crank. Any other suggestions? I've got a lot to learn, so I plan on trying to post each evening of my trip and maybe get a little feedback. Maybe I'll stumble on some fish and be able to help as well. . Question: 1. I hear a lot about water temp and how that affects where the bass will be. I assume that is surface temp. I also assume that the water temp at 10 feet will be cooler. I am over thinking this? 2. There are thousands of different bass baits out there...how do you choose? 3. Catt, you advised to position the boat shallow (8-10 feet) and cast deep. This time of year I assume when you catch one "staging", there are others in the area. In that situation, should I anchor and really work the place over, or keep trolling. Thanks, Pat
