  1. Hmmm, not a single mention of Rattlin' Roagues... They work for me.
  2. That pics been making the rounds for a while. Someone sent it to me a couple of years back and claimed it came from a local (southeast Missouri) farm. Still a GREAT picture for sure. Our conservation folks say there are no cougars in Missouri, despite numberous sighting, and the carcas of one that was hit and killed with a car a few years ago.
  3. LBH, GREAT fish! It makes me wonder what in the world is keeping you in Rhode Island? You obviously spend a lot of time on the water, you have the confidence and dedication to throw the big baits all day, and you know how to find the bigguns. Imagine what you'd be catching if you lived in Florida, Texas, or California...
  4. I was gonna guess...but then you went and called me a sucka. (nice fish)
  5. When I was a kid it drove me crazy to see Roland Martin release those big bass on TV. What was he thinking?! Sure I fished for fun, but I also wanted to bring a meal home. Now I seldom keep anything. I preach selective harvest with bass, but I don't practice it like I should.
  6. Excellent find.
  7. Sounds like a heck of a lot of fun. Don't listen to the carp haters. I grew up going to fish frys where your choice was catfish or carp. I always chose carp. The fillets were scored about every 1/8th of an inch to let the bones cook out, this made them extra crunchy and delicious.
  8. Congratulations! Best wishes for many more. :)
  9. Matt, A friend of mine talks about washers from way back when he worked the oil fields in Texas. He said they sunk cans in the ground (or maybe even in the asphalt?) and tossed large, readily available washers into the cans. Says that's the only "real" washers game. By the way, he was the inspiration for the extreme washers abomination we built. Dan
  10. This pretty much sums it up for me. Sounds like the fishing was good, the company sucked, and you learned something that will keep you from making the same mistake twice. Not all bad.
  11. Great fish and pics. I agree that your PB is the biggest fish you've caught, not just the biggest that you have pictures of. Great going!
  12. It started as a joke, a friend always complained that we didn't play by the 'official' washer rules, so another guy set out to make the most unofficial washers games ever built. We went through a 12 pack just arguing about how to score it. My buddy actually built two of these, then couldn't fit 'em both in the back of his pickup. We used 'em for one weekend, then gave them to the local 4H.

  15. I was at the boat ramp yesterday with my 9 year old daughter....A local family and their 3 pit bulls were next to the ramp swimming (it's a no swimming lake). When we got out of the vehicle, the dog's owners, who were rough looking themselves, started yelling at the dogs to behave. The dogs were not on leashes and they were looking at us like lunch. I know they're not born to be bad, but when I see Pit Bulls in situations like this, they make me a nervous wreck. Too many times the people who buy them don't want a pet, they want the meanest dog in town.
  16. Post count isn't everything. There are a lot of people who log on often, but simply choose not to post for one reason or another. I would still consider these active members.
  17. That was a great read. Congrats on a great day!
  18. I think I just threw up a little.
  19. Cheering on LSU at the College World Series! Just kidding ...Congratulations LSU, champions again!
  20. Avid, I've got your back. Just making the semis was a near miracle. Tim Howard was apparently THE man today. I'm looking forward to watching the replay tonight on ESPN 2. DMB
  21. Ha! I'm going to forward this to my priest.
  22. I like Lightning Rods. Good sensitivity, not great. A fast tip for solid hooksets, and plenty of backbone. The stainless steel guides are a great choice for a $40 rod...none of the cheaper ceramic guides that pop out of other lower priced rods. On the downside, they are a bit heavy. Bottom line; they are built to last, and are a good buy at your price point.
  23. Frank, I just got a $100 gift card to BPS for Father's Day (Wahoo!) and plan to buy a Pro-Qualifier BC reel when they go on sale. Are you saying I won't get the sale price if I use my gift card? Or am I not reading this correctly? Thanks, DMB hey DMB, sorry for the confusion. here's what i'm talking about: www.basspro.com/save100 this is the current promotion for $20 off a minimum $100 purchase. let's say you want to take advantage of this promotion and so you place an order for $115 in merchandise. if you paid by credit card, you'd get the $20 discount. but, if you want to apply your $100 gift card toward this order, you would have to order another $85 worth of merchandise to get the $20 off because the amount of the gift card is subtracted from the qualifying amount of the promotion, in this case, the minimum $100 purchase. this is why i hate getting gift cards from BPS as gifts...not only can it be worth less than the cash amount it was bought for BUT you don't get the rewards points for them either. cabela's does not do this and the only reason i can think of why BPS does is because they figure they already have your money so why bother. That is an unfortunate business practice. Unless bought at a discount, gift cards should always spend like cash.

  25. I also have one of the Daiwa made Prodigys that I really like...2 years active duty, no troubles. That said, where can I send it for service? Cabela's does not repair their own reels. If they did I would buy more, but they don't so I probably won't.
