So much for my Aunts pond
I was there today, and only got 2 bass. Considering the conditions, it was a decent day though. A cold front blew in this morning, and it rained most of the morning, and some of the afternoon too. I started pitching a blk/blue jig with a blk swimming trailer with blue flecks into reeds that were bordering the pond. I had 2 good bites with that jig, but missed them both. I then decided to try a smaller jig that is a camo green color, rigged with a crawfish trailer. I missed a couple with that jig as well, and then I got an app. 16oz bass. After a couple more missed bass, I hooked another LM a little bit bigger. I missed about 7 bass in that 2hours that I fished the pond, which stinks, but it was better to have gotten bit and missed, than never to have been biten at all. I didn't bother with pics because they weren't picture worthy IMO. Maybe tomorrow....... I forgot to mention, I caught both bass on my new Fenwick 7'MH Flippin' stick. I can't believe how sensitive these higher end rods really are. Put it this way, When using the crawfish trailer, I felt a bite, and tried to set the hook too early. When I inspected the jig, I noticed something odd, the fish had bit the plastic pinchers off of the trailer, and I felt it. Not bad IMO.

Lake Fork Questions
avid, don't even worry about it. It wasn't hurtful to me in the least. All in good fun, but like LBH said, watch out for that frog in your boot. ;D I have a question about Fork though...... What is the usual water condition like? Clear, murky, muddy, etc...

Lake Fork Questions
LBH, if you took what I said how avid did, that isn't how I meant it. If I go fishing, and don't catch many bass, or any at all, I figure out why. That is what I meant. Why didn't you catch more fish?

Lake Fork Questions
Someone say my name? lol 1 week of results summed up in 1 picture! lol I suk That's it? That is all you got in one week? Sheesh LBH, what went wrong? What do you attribute your lack of bass to? What did you do wrong?

2nd annual BR.com roadtrip!!!
Since LBH is right about the money issue, what if we do a Lunker pool for whoever wants to fish for the shirt would throw in some money. Then the shirt wouldn't come out of Glenn's pocket. If 10 people want to fish for it, then 10 a piece. If only 5 want to fish for the shirt, it'd be 20 a piece, so on and so on. What do you folks think? I don't know about yall, but I really want one of those awesome shirts, but I honestly don't have the moola. I'd love to represent Bass Resource when I fish my club tournaments. Is there an interest?

2nd annual BR.com roadtrip!!!
Ssssshhhhhhhhh I know that, but everyone else doesn't, well now they do. I was trying to set a few bets up, but now my cover is blown. ;D just kidding. This trip will be great, I just can't wait. Is it time yet? I am trying to get Glenn to give up one of those Bass Resource tournament shirts to the angler who catches the biggest bass though. He is considering it.

baitmonky?
Ah the bait monkey. The bait monkey is what gets in your head and makes you buy more fishing lures, better rods, better reels, the faster boat, the nicest raingear, etc.. But mostly just refers to......bait. It is just a term that we addicts use to justify buying all that "stuff" that we really do need. In other words, the bait monkey makes us do it. For example, if your reading posts on here about a certain lure, and everyone has the best results with the chartruese color, you feel you must go out and buy that lure in chartruese. That would be the hypothetical bait monkey tapping you on the shoulder.

2nd annual BR.com roadtrip!!!
If anyone still reads this thread, I've got a couple questions. Of those who are going to Fork, who is getting a guide? And also for those that are going, who has fished Lake Fork before, and how much? Just curious as to what kind of fishing can be expected.

Why Bass?
This response is totally my opinion. It is based on my experience. I bass fish because it is more fun than fishing for any other species of fish. I have fished for lots of other fish, but never catch fish consistantly like I do bass. I do think bass fishing is over rated, but that is due to the billion dollar industry it is. I think bass are one of the hardest fish to catch consistantly, but also at the same time one of the easiest if you know your stuff. But that goes with any fish species I guess. I mainly bass fish because I went one day with a true bass fisherman, and he showed me what to do. I did it and caught a few nice bass that day. I was simply hooked. I am sure I could come up with lots of other reasons, but I'll think about it, and get back to this thread later.

Your most impressive fishing streak?
Funny you should ask. Last Memorial day I was at an aunt's house in Ohio. She has a small pond, I mean SMALL less than 1 acre, across the street from her house. I fished it for almost 3 hours, and caught 17 bass ranging from about 5 inches, all the way up to several that were in the 2-3 lb range. In the first 5 casts, I caught 5 fish. One of the best holes I've found yet. I have caught bigger bass, but this time was the funnest! I am going to be there tomorrow, and hope to catch some nice bass, and take alot of pics too. I'll post them either tomorrow night, or Saturday evening.

Spinnerbait Theory
Sorry to get off topic here, but I think it needs to be brought to attention. Bass DO NOT school. " A school of fish moves in unison, and live together. Bass swim and feed together, but in groups more accuratly called aggregations. They do not coordinate movements, but do prowl an area at the same time. Their feeding efforts aren't coordinated, and they don't remain in the same group. Therefore, bass don't exhibit true schooling behavior. Bass do however group together in certain areas when actively feeding when drawn by the same food source. If you catch one bass, usually more are in the same area. Bass of the same size, and ability also group together." So remember aggregate, not school. Bass get together in aggregations, not true schools. It is an incorrect myth, that continues to be passed along. The preceding text was taken from the In-Fisherman handbook of strategies for Largemouth bass.

TURTLES
I caught this turtle on a 4inch dinger at 3am one night. I let him go though.

Spinnerbait Theory
I think it sounds like a good idea. The rigs I saw like that were the same size in proportion to the spinnerbaits, and your drawing. Give it a try, like I said before you never know untill you try it. What are you going to make the wire from? And how will you connect the lures to it? If spinnerbaits work, you could also rig it with 2-3 of the same crankbaits, but in different colors.
-
Spinnerbait Theory
Sorry to burst your bubble, but I am almost positive Ive seen a rig like that before. Possibly for saltwater fishing, but I don't know. I do know I have seen it before.
-
Spinnerbait Theory
In theory it sounds decent, but if you get 1 snagged, and cant get it unsnagged, you lose them all. I once found 2 crankbaits that someone had tried your idea with, and lost. I do think it would be good if you could figure out how to keep them from tangling. Give it a try, you never know untill then. I have done that with 2 different flukes while smaillie fishing. You could rig up different colored spinnerbaits, and see if they hit one color more than the others. I like the 3 way swivel idea. I have read books where they suggest similar setups with crankbaits, and a grub in front of the crank.

2nd annual BR.com roadtrip!!!
Thanks Lane and cravenfish! I sent PM's. Hopefully I can get some good fishing time in. I really want to be there too. Your generosity will be rewarded as well. You are both great folks. Thanks alot, BASS_fisherman

2nd annual BR.com roadtrip!!!
Thanks Lane!! I plan on going, but it is almost a waste of time to go and shore fish the whole time, so hopefully something works out. Gas money is never a problem either, I sent a PM. Thank you, BASS_fisherman

2nd annual BR.com roadtrip!!!
Well unless I can find someone to rent a boat with, Im out. > This trip fell into place incredibly way to easy. Therefore in my fun little world of "nothing even turns out right" I should have taken that as a sign, but I figured I didn't need to since I was dealing with seasoned veterns and great guys. Well, I simply don't think I'll be able to go, d**n!!!! I was so incredibly looking forward to this great trip. Oh well, such is life. Man did I really want to do this trip, d**n, is it just me, or does this crap always happen? Always!!! I can never have anything good happen, without that equally bad kick in the teeth chugging along right behind the good news. BOOM, I just lost another couple teeth. I'd of given up so much to go too. There is still a very small sliver of a chance of being able to go, but only time will tell.

Indiana/Ohio fishing... stinks?
I partially agree with Pond-Pro. I have an aunt who lives in east Ohio who has a pond across the street from her house. I have fished it a few times, and in those 3 times, Ive caught a total of around 50 bass, with the majority of them weighing 2.5-3lbs. I am sure their are a few bigger bass in the pond, but it is tough to get to them due to the thick weeds all through the pond. I have also fished Mosquito lake in eastern Ohio with the club Im in, and we usually do bad as far as weights go. Never had a bag over 10lbs, and we usually fish the lake twice each season. I live in Pttisburgh and the bass size is bad here as well. Biggest bass Ive caught this year was 5lb 4oz. But I fish a lake that has had a 13lb bass pulled from it, which beats the Pa state record weight by 2 lbs. You just have to find a lake that isn't overfished, or maybe some sort of pay lake, or a lake that is closed on certain days. Usually tthe fishing is alot better in those impoundments than your average lake. Good luck on finding them though, loose lips sink ships. Or ruin the good fishing for the few that know about the excellent fisheries.

2nd annual BR.com roadtrip!!!
1st, Welcome to the forum!! And yes of course women are allowed to attend. The trip is open to any and all members of the Bass Resource forum, and friends/family. There are several wives coming with their husbands as well. As Roadwarrior said in an earlier post "Women will be treated with the utmost of respect", or something similar. We would love to have you Suzi-Q!
