I fish in a club as a rider. I pay the owner a fee for gas for the boat, and I can fish each tourney just as an owner does. Another club where I live is called a circut. I have to have a boat, and a partner to fish with. Which right now is not possible, so it is bass club for me. I would suggest either waiting longer for a response, or try emailing them again. If you don't hear a response, they may be filled, and I suggest looking for another club. Good luck!
  2. lol, you know what those guys like to do. he he he I just got my home made/poormans depth finder done. It is 26 feet long, each foot has a knot, and every 3 feet is painted blue.
  3. Absolutly!! Alot of the lakes and ponds I fish don't have big bass in them, but I know for sure that this one does. Pa states record LM bass is 11lb some odd ounces. The largest bass pulled from this lake was 13 lbs 9oz. I see big bass jumping in and around this one spot in particular, and have for 2 weeks, so I am thinking that this next Saturday, depending on conditions, I should be able to pull at least one out of that area. They say that if your catching dinks, move on because you won't find any pigs in that area. The whole shoreline is full of dinks, so Im thinking that the pigs group together in the deeper middle, on some sort of structure, and close to the milfoil columns. It sounds like perfect pig territory to me. I think when I get there I am going to try the Spook over the area, then cranks starting with the DT 10, going to a DT 16 if needed. Then if they aren't biting, I'll go with a spider jig rigged on a spot remover type jig. If I can feel the structure great, if not I'll try the C-rig with a green trick worm with red flakes. That is just the preliminary plan, and definatly not set in stone yet. It will most likely change due to conditions, and if I find something is hot that day. What do you think?
  4. Thanks for the info so far. A few things I forgot. It is a man made lake, I'd guess 15-20ft in the deepest spot. Lots of vegitation, and other cover like submerged trees. I am not positive if shad are present, but I don't believe so. The main forage would be crawfish, blue gill, frogs, and other small fish. I like the string and weight tip. All the tips sound good to me.
  5. So I found this lake that actually has bass in it that beat the current Pa record bass by several pounds. I fished the lake this past Saturday and caught 11 bass, but together they maybe weighed 5lbs, all pretty small. I want to know of those on this forum who target big bass specifically, what do you use, and where? I know this is rather vague, but give me an idea of where to start. I have caught a couple bass around 5lbs, but they were a combination of luck, and skill. I was simply fishing, and got them. I believe the big bass in this lake are deep, in the middle, usually holding on the outside edges of milfoil columns. When fishing this lake, I rent a row boat, so I don't have any electronics, so if you say to find a ledge, also state in the best detail you can, how to find it. This is actually more of a large pond, than a lake, so there are no maps of the water to refer to. I simply want to catch a pig or 2, not kill them to get recognition of beating the Pa record bass weight.
  6. 9inches? You fishin for jaws over there in Cali? Thats huge. Good job though, I like making my own stuff too, but still have to get an airbrush. Rattle can get it done, but no where near as good in the end.
  7. You are welcome everyone, but the credit goes to the moderators, and Glenn. They are always busy helping out around BassResource.com, and in general in the fishing community. Thanks for everything.
  8. If the bass was very skinny when you caught it, and looked scrawny for its size, then IMO, the pond probably has an over abundance of bass, and the owner needs to get some of them out, or introduce more forage for the bass to eat. Leaving bass in an overpopulated pond actually has a negative long term effect on the bass, and will result in smaller and smaller scrawnier bass each year as they breed. The same thing happens with other animals, such as deer. But I would rather see more forage introduced than taking a bass home to "suffer" in a tank. Just MO
  9. I think they are great too. I have 3 of his lures, and they run true, and have a good action to them. Very low price for the work, and quality involved in making each lure.
  10. IMO, and from what I have read, if you are shore fishing, yes most of the time if you just trampled up to your fishing spot, drop all your gear, and start fishing, yes the bass that were shallow know your there, and have swam off, I have experienced that numerous times. When boat fishing, usually the bass aren't to concerned about you, unless your in say an aluminum rowboat, and you make noise by dropping stuff, so it bangs on the boats bottom, or if you have a nice boat and have a radio blasting. IMO, sometimes the bass are just spookier than other times. I have carried on conversations on shore with a guy right next to me, and had bass bite 5 feet off shore. But on the other hand I have been real quiet, snuck up to my spot, and can actually see bass, and I can't buy a bite. IMO It is instinct for any animal to survive, so fleeing, or being cautious of humans is in their genes.
  11. What is my dream boat? My dream boat is anything that floats, has enough room for my rods, fishing bag, and me to stand in, and room for a trolling motor. That's all I need. At this point in time, any bass boat would be great. Or any boat for that matter.
  12. Ike says the same thing. "Don't worry about the skill of the anglers your fishing with, your competeing against the fish."
  13. I agree A good angler learns when they don't catch any fish as well as their limit. Do your reasearch, and figure out why you didn't get bit, and what may have worked, and how to present it. Then the next time the same conditions arise, you will be prepared. Congrats on your 1000th post. I read your 999th, and laughed pretty hard.
  14. Wow! What a bunch of great tips! I was going to say the senko 1. Use it texas rigged, and after it rips, I put them in a ziplock bag to use as wacky riggers.
  15. IMO it matters if the bass in the lake your fishing have seen what your throwing, how active they are, and the presentation you use. In my experience, I caught a 16oz bass on the largest Rebel Pop-r they make, as well as the 5lb 4oz bass on the same lure, a couple minutes later.
  16. I was with the majority untill I saw those pics, WOW! I also am in Pa, and usually catch smaller bass with topwaters, but occasionally you will get a pig. The very blurry, super out of focus fish in my avatar was caught on a Rebel Pop-R, at 10:32 am, on a rainy day, and weighed 5lbs 4oz. It was a memory I will never forget. I cast about 1 foot away from a point of a milfoil bed, and started a small pop, fast retrieve. Right when I paused it, she slashed at it, but missed. She came almost all the way out of the water, and I gave the pop-r the slightest twitch, and she took it, and ran. One of the best fights too.
  17. This may be of little help, but I live in Pa, and the Pa fish and game commission has put together a map of the entire state with all the river launch ramps, lakes, lake launches, etc.. Just about anywhere you would or could put a boat is on the map. They make one for the whole state, and I also have one that is narrowed to my county, and the surrounding counties. The only problem is that I have found a few lakes/larger ponds that are not included on the map. Check to see if Florida has a similar map set. But then again Florida has a whole bunch of water. This might help some: http://myfwc.com/boating/access/ramps/ ........or........ http://www.takemefishing.org/facilitySearch.aspx?searchType=A
  18. I agree, and an attractant wouldn't hurt too. I prefer garlic scent from BANG.
  19. From my experience, not as much as yours, lol ;D, I have found that the majority of the time, yes a splash or a kerplunk noise will attract bass, but not always. Just last night, I was throwing a black senko with blue flakes, at night. The first 25 casts I threw normal, and didn't get a bite. Then I started stopping the bait, for a silent entry. I caught 2 within 10 minutes. I have had a few other times that I noticed the same pattern. The bass were spooky, and only hit a lure or bait with a silent entry. Next time your throwing a senko, and not getting many bites, try the silent entry, I gaurantee more bass. At least in Pa it works like that. I know Im weird, but Im not crazy. :-/ ;D The first big bass 5+ lb I got, I had noticed that the bass were turned on by a certain kerplunk of the senko hitting the water. I continued throwing the senko into the air and into a thick weed bed. As soon as the senko hit the water, I had a 5lb 4oz LM bass hit the senko. I wrestled her out of the weeds, and I had my first nice bass. It was 2am when I caught her in case you all are wondering.
  20. Two more tips to add to Rw's post- Sometimes you won't get a bite because your worm is hitting the water to hard/loud. To counter this simply stop the line from comming off of the reel. If using a spinning reel, I grab the line seconds before the worm hits the water. If using a baitcaster, simply stop the spool by placing your thumb on it, as you would to stop the spool anyway. The worm will have a near silent entry to the water. It takes a little practice, so keep at it. When walking around the shore, target the outside edges in any emergent weeds that you can see. Most of the time the active bass will be on the points of the weed beds, and the inactive bass will be on the inside turns.
  21. This small interview was thought up to help the users of Bass Resource to get to know, and understand the moderators a little better. Thanks to Fivebasslimit, and Low_budget_Hookers for their time in answering these questions. Fivebasslimit 1. Do the mods have "roles" on the board and if so, what is your role? Being the newest member of the "mod squad",I am basically just reviewing, moving, editing and deleting posts and threads at this point and occasionally sending friendly warnings and fielding some complaints through the pm system. I really enjoy it. 2. What is the best thing you have seen come from the board? The best thing to come from the board is the amount of members we have and all of the input that everyone gives. In any given thread you will get objective views on any topic no matter what it may be. This helps each member form his/her own opinion about things. The other best thing that has come from this site is that it offers a friendly place for people to come hang out and talk bass fishing without any worries of being blasted or ridiculed about your opinions. Glenn has built a great thing here. 3. It seems you guys spend lots of time teaching. What's the one thing that stands out to you that you have learned from the board? I have learned to be more versatile when on the water as far as what baits to try. That comes from the many members that post reports and pics of fish they have caught using baits that I normally would not use in certain situations. 4. What do you believe makes BR different from other boards? I think the cleanliness of the forums and the friendly atmosphere sets it apart from the "others".Glenn likes to run a tight ship and I think that's the best way to have it. 5. If you could change your job functions here, what would you add or delete? I cant think of anything I would change at the moment. A moderators job is pretty straight-forward. 6. Fishing is many things to many people, what is Fishing to you? Bass fishing is many things to me as well. I fish tournaments for the competition......there's nothing better than a group of guys showing up at the ramp on a Saturday morning and throwing down money to see who's the best on that day. Fishing is also an escape for me. I can get on my boat, blast across the lake, find a nice quiet cove and just be alone. I also enjoy fishing with my 10 year old son (when he wants to go ).....he's one heck of a fisherman. Whenever the bite gets slow, he whips out his Portable Playstation and beats up some bad guys. 7. What is your personal best largemouth and smallmouth bass, and what did you use to catch it? PB Largemouth: 9-2 caught on live bluegill (I know, I know ) PB Smallmouth:6-5 caught on a Lucky Craft Pointer 78 8. When were you introduced to fishing, and who introduced you? My dad first took me trout fishing for stockers when I was 4 or 5......I've been setting hooks on some type of fish ever since. 9. Do you believe that a poor man can make it as a professional angler, and how? That is a tough question which could go either way. A poor man who can market himself and can talk his way into things could make it as a pro no problem. A poor man that cant do those things will have a very tough road to travel.95% of pro fisherman are sponsored in some way, the other 5% just have enough money to do it alone. 10. What are some ways that an angler can make a difference in his or hers' local waters? Just help out in any way you can, whether it be building fish habitat or handicapped fishing piers ,picking up trash, supporting kids events, attending meetings, reporting violators, donating money etc..... Low_Budget_Hookers 1. Do the mods have "roles" on the board and if so, what is your role? Other than the set roles of being a moderator ,no. We have however, taken on personalities that just seem to fill certain niches of the moderators role. No one person could possibly do all there is to do as a mod. We compliment each other well in making up a well rounded team in my opinion, all thanks to the quaterback. Although I am the one mod that seems to be making waves with my opinion every now and again, I see myself as adding more of a social aspect to BR. I like to come up with ideas like the members challenge or the members videos. Things that bring the members together to promote the feeling that we are all 1 big family. I tend to attract the youth attention and take great responsibilty in that also. 2. What is the best thing you have seen come from the board? It's tough to pick one thing. Glenn has opened so many doors for people here, it's just tough to say. For me personally, I am grateful for finding CAST for kids here. Secondly, some of the friends and contacts I've made here are irreplaceable. Thirdly, we've seen members step up to help other members families in time of need. we've had members donate lots of things to the kids. Members go out of their way to help each other. The charity and care born here are very special and always inspire me to be better. The site is full of role models. 3. It seems you guys spend lots of time teaching. What's the one thing that stands out to you that you have learned from the board? To start keeping my mouth shut. To let the little things go. 2 things I was never very good at but am trying to improve on. The site gives me a forum in which to be tested often. 4. What do you believe makes BR different from other boards? The people reading this post, and the format in which Glenn strictly adheres to. 5. If you could change your job functions here, what would you add or delete? I'm pretty happy. Like I mentioned earlier, we all fill a niche. Glenn does not pressure us to be anything we don't claim to be or don't want to be. He treats us with respect and although I can only speak for myself, I would have to say that we are all pretty honored to be chosen by him for this duty. 6. Fishing is many things to many people, what is Fishing to you? One big smile. I like sharing and teaching. Spreading the word is where my love lies. I've done just about all aspects from tourny angling to commercial fishing and I find I smile the most when I make a new face smile at the joy of a tugging line. It's more contagious than the flu. 7. What is your personal best largemouth and smallmouth bass, and what did you use to catch it? Although irrelevant considering the last question, 9.2 is my PB LM and about 3/4 lb for a smallie. LM was on a jig in fall and smallie was on a senko while LM fishing. 8. When were you introduced to fishing, and who introduced you? My dad when I was about 6. He' was never much of an angler, it was a once a yr thing. Opening day. I got hooked , he never really did. Big thanks to Pops just the same. 9. Do you believe that a poor man can make it as a professional angler, and how? I believe the only thing a man can't do is whatever he tells himself he can't do. 10. What are some ways that an angler can make a difference in his or hers' local waters? Keep it clean!! Pick up the trash. Don't pollute and pass the message on to the generation after you. Get involved. Be active in your community.
  22. I have caught the majority of the bass I have, in the evening, this time of year. In the summer, I catch more bass in the early morn.
  23. I have yet to catch a rod. But I have caught a few crankbaits, 2 of which were rigged together. They were both new rebel cranks. The other was a luhr jensen crank, that had been in the water for a while. It was covered in slime. I always hook into other peoples' broken off line, and as I pull it in, and wind it up to toss out, I alwas hope that there is something other than a hook on the other end. And so far I haven't got anything good. :-[
