Compression?
I might be buying a boat soon, and want to know how to check the compression on the motor? A member of the bass club Im in is selling a 16 foot Hydro sports Bass Boat with a 110 Evenrude outboard on it, For $1000. What other tips can you give someone who is purchasing their first bass boat? I have been informed that the boat needs a little work, but that is fine depending on what it is. I do reupholstery for a living, so anything regarding the seats or carpet, or any deck/wood work is do-able, and expected.

Tell Me What is Your Favorite Fishing Weather
My favorite time to fish would be anytime, no matter if it is hot, cold, wet, dry, snowing, raining, hailing, etc etc... I am dead set on making it into the ranks of the pro bass fishermen, who fish in the Elite series. I fish when ever I can, and I watch the weather very closely. I then chart out conditions such as water conditions, barometer, atmospheric conditions, and a few secret bits of information. Then I chart what I caught, how big it was, the retreive used, how deep I was fishing, etc.. When I have several years put together, I figure I can go back over the logs, and compile a list of lures that work best for the biggest bass, during the proper conditions, if that makes sense. Fishing is best IMO, on a warm day, lots of clouds, and a water temperature of around 67-70 fegrees. But really I love fishing at anytime of the day or night.

Business Administration in the role of aPro angler
Thank you Bassmaster Flash. Its nice to know someone have my back. Added to what BMF said, when I post during the day, I am always in a hurry due to the fact that I am at work, and don't have much time to post new threads, or answer posts. At least you guys knew what I meant, and I don't spell that bad, come on now. I thank the more "seasoned" anglers for responding to this post. Your input means alot.

Interview with Glenn and the origins of BR.com
Thank you all for your support. I hope to have more interviews in the future. I'd like to interview some pro anglers, so if anyone can help with getting me in touch with a few, please PM me. I have tried to contact some, and the task proves to be quite difficult. The interview would be for the Bass Resource Forums, so if any members are friend with or can get in touch with any pro anglers, or any who hang out on this forum, please PM me so I may conduct the interview. Thanks again to Glenn for the creation of the BassResource.com site, and for participating in the interview. Thanks again, BASS_fisherman

IMHO avid you are correct, but I was refering more to the fact that many anglers today focus on their strengths, and how the sport will evolve into more anglers mastering many lures. If the bass have lock jaw and all you fish are your strengths, and the guy in the next boat has the ability to fish many different lures efficiently, I believe that the more versatile angler has a better chance of taking in a quality limit, than the angler who only fishes their strengths. I think it will increase your odds of catching fish. Just like you have a better chance of winning the lottery, if you buy 100 tickets, rather than say just 10. IMO, a device that triggers bass to bite would take the sport out of tourney angling. Anyone could catch fish with no skills at all. Most on this site would agree that bass fishing has seen a boom within the past several years, and if this generation pushes the limits just as the current top anglers have, the sport will become more and more advanced, as well as more difficult at the same time. The fishing pressure has increased more and more due to the boom in bass anglers, and I believe it will get worse and worse, thereby making the fish spookier and harder to catch, unless you can master many different lures efficiently, as to present something the bass are not familiar with. It is hard for me to put into words, but I think you get my gist. just MHO

IMO, I think after looking over the results from pro tourneys, that if these anglers would learn to be proficient in 99% of the lures out there, they wouldn't be getting skunked here and there. When the fishing is slow, and no one is boating fish, I think that there is always something that will catch fish, and using it properly is the key. Look at other sports over the past 20 years. It is natural for things to evolve and become more difficult. 5 years ago, a back flip on a dirt bike was considered impossible, now every rider in the X-games can do back flips on a dirt bike. Fishing is becoming the same way, give it a few more years, and the competition will be incredibly difficult. Just MHO.

I figure around 10 years before I start getting the good $$'s in tourneys. The course I am planning on taking focuses on business fundamentals, marketing, and communication. The degree is a bachelors, not an associates degree. I do fish out of a boat alot of the time, but I usually rent them where ever I am fishing at. I appreciate everyone's input, and anyone else who puts in their 2 cents. Here's my basic plan: 1. Get a 2nd job 2. Start business admin course while saving down payment for boat 3. buy a cheaper used bass boat 4. Practice winning tournaments 5. enter BFL, or some espn tourneys, or I can make state team through the club Im in. 6. continue winning tourneys with some pigs, start looking for appropriate sponsers 7. yet to be determined.......

I agree with chris 100%! Not only do I want to become proficient with 99% of the lures out there, I plan on it. Versitility is the key!

The mindset of fishing for big bass
Dont those lure retrievers only work from a boat? From shore I heard they are useless, therefore requireing a big pole with a corkscrew type of thing on the end. How exactly does that wind up lure retriever work? Do you tangle the chain in the hook and then rip it out of the snagged material? I am confused as to how they work.

so I missed the "r" so I switched the "i", and the "s" I co-own an Upholstery shop with my father and brother. Taking off to fish tourneys in the beginning will not be a problem. Those select few who don't do anything else, are usually filthy rich, and from what I've seen they usually don't do very well anyway. IMO, having the skills to market my sponsers' products, as well as myself as a result of earning the Business Admin degree, would give me the 1-up, since that would be a positive point in a sponser picking me, over the next guy. 1-up to me means 1 step above the rest.

Business Administration in the role of aPro angler
I was thinking the same thing. Do you think that the school where you get the degree makes a difference as well? How long did you go to school for?
-
Business Administration in the role of aPro angler
I have been looking into taking a business admin course to get an associates degree. Do you believe a business administration course would give me a "1-up" on the competition when I become a pro angler, in regards to getting sponsers? And in the chance, which isn't an option, that I don't make it pro, I have something to fall back on. ;D

Clubs with a Classic
I live in Pa, and the pick of lakes for a classic in Pa aren't that good. We do ours on Raystown lake, which, I believe, is the largest lake in Pa. Each year we have a meeting in November for the upcoming year, and all the locations for the tourneys are decided upon. If you go, good, your input is needed. If you don't go to the meeting, too bad, you don't have a say in the tourney locations. I think having one person pick the location is alittle off, but to each his own, every club is different.

Anyone concerned about...
The only time I worry about cuts and scratches, is when I am walking along a rocky shoreline, and like a duffus, I step on an unstable rock and it wobbles, and then I fall and inevitably skin half my leg up. I did this along the banks of the Allegheny river, which if your wondering is a varitable sewage plant. Immediatly my leg around the cut started started burning, and after a few minutes turned pink, which from what I understand is the result of a slight infection. I got my first aid kit and cleaned the cuts as well as possible, and went about fishing. It burned more than your average cut too. The super glue trick is a great trick too. Ever hear of a product called Nu-skin? That uses the same principle as super glue.

Interview with Glenn and the origins of BR.com
This interview was conducted with Glenn to bring the users of this forum and the site, a little closer to Glenn. Please enjoy and feel free to comment. 1. Did you start Bass Resource, and if so, why? If not, who did? Yes I did. I started working on it back in '95 and it debuted in early '97. The story of its origins begins HERE=> http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1126620031/7#7 2. What are some of your duties pertaining to Bass Resource? Oh boy! I could write a book! Without overstating it, I maintain and run the entire site. So things like keeping the links section up-to-date, adding all the daily news articles, surveys, and new fishing articles, are all in addition to overseeing the forums. I also run the business side too. This includes working with advertisers and fulfilling e-book and store orders. Then, of course, there's answering all the e-mails. And sometimes I even fish! 3. How do you go about choosing a moderator? That's a good question. First I want to keep it small. Too many cooks in the kitchen spell disaster. I start at a high level, reviewing the current mix of moderators, and look for balance. I look for representation of the membership. Some people are really into tournaments, while others just want to relax and enjoy the outdoors, while still others love the social aspects of it. It goes on and on from there, but essentially I want the Mod Squad to mirror the membership. Once I've identified an open niche, I then look at the folks amongst the forum membership who represent that segment, and who truly exhibit the culture and values of the forums. They also have to be passionate about the sport and the site. I also look for somebody who will fit well within the team. From there, it's a gut feeling. I hand-pick a few candidates and open a dialog with them to see if they're interested, and to find out their technical skill level and comfort. The result is what you see today - an elite Mod Squad 4. Who introduced you to fishing, and when? My mother and father, back before I could even stand up. 5. What do you believe makes BR different from other boards? THE PEOPLE! This place would be really boring if it weren't for the high-caliber members here. I can't tell you how impressed I am with the people here. So many helping each other out, passing along years of fishing knowledge, laughing together, crying together, and showing respect when opinions differ - I'm simply flabbergasted. It's the people that make this all worthwhile for me. They are the spirit and soul of the site. They are the reason this site leads the rest! 6. Fishing is many things to many people, what is fishing to you? It's a lot of things to me. It's the camaraderie, the competition, the exhilaration and the relaxation. It's the friends I've made, the family I have and the wife I adore. Bass fishing is the common thread amongst them. I lead an extremely busy and hectic lifestyle, and fishing brings me back to reality. It's who I am. 7. Do you believe that a poor man can make it as a professional angler, and how? Anybody can do anything, once they set their mind to it. Finances are no hurdle once a dream becomes a mission and a passion. They WILL find a way to make it happen. I pity the person who stands in their way. 8 . What is the best thing you have seen come from the board? Compassion. The things people do for each other, even complete strangers, just amazes me. From giving kids tackle, to helping the disabled and disadvantaged go out fishing, to raising money to help somebody thousands of miles away pay for hospital and legal bills. I've seen some of the most awesome displays of the human spirit here. It goes way beyond fishing. In addition, watching beginners learn and grow while experienced anglers coach and mentor them; and forum members meeting and going fishing together. That's what it's all about. 9. What is your personal best largemouth and smallmouth bass, and what did you use to catch it? Best largemouth: 6lbs 4ozs on a Camo Ring-it. Smallmouth: 4lbs 10ozs. I've caught several that size on tubes, spider jigs, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits, but I can't seem to break that PB. My wife's FIRST smallmouth was 4lbs 12ozs, caught on a spider jig. Can you believe that?! 10. How long has Bass Resource been "alive", and how did you get others involved at first? It's been around for about a decade now. Back then, I wanted a unique name. There was nothing in existence on the Internet with Ultimate or Resource Guide in its name, so I decided to name it The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide. However, I knew with a name like that, it had better deliver on that promise. So I set the bar pretty high. It must have delivered, because I really didn't seek out people to get them involved, they found me. The site naturally attracted them.

Specifically targeting the pigs
I didnt get my pig today, I did get a little dink, but no pig so far. Hopefully tommarrow. I did manage to break one of my rods though. It was a piece of junk though so no big loss. I stopped on the way home and got a new Fenwick medhvy 7' for my new flippin stick.

Fishing in a Storm
I love fishing in the rain. I like fishing in pouring rain too, but not during lightning. I have fished during a lightning storm, but I peed myself a couple times in the process.

Always be ready.
Good post! I had a Rapala Jointed Shad Rap tied on, and just got my gear out of my truck. On the first cast, without checking and retieing, I flung the lure halfway across the lake. I was mad, but couldn't say anything because a family with little kids was only 20 feet away. So much for the Shad Rap. Some kid hopefully found it, and catches some nice bass on it.
