  1. So, as with all times are right and 50+ hours of work doesn't pay the bills like it used to. I don't wanna sit at home all spring/ summer either. I have lakes within 3 hours of me, some within 1.5 hours of me. But Joachim creek (near herky, MO) is just down the road.. Driving an f250 1.5 hours one way can get a bit expensive... Thinking about simply fishing the creek, but never really fished it... Would u fish the creek? Or just hit the rivers when u can... I got a 15' basstracker w/ a 40 hp mercury on back. Anyone in the area ever fish Joachim for bass....either smallmouth or largemouth is fine.
  2. thanks... i'm a worrier. appreciate it fellas
  3. folks, quick question... i have a camping trip up coming, that will require a boat to get to where I'm going. going to use the 1982 bass tracker to haul myself, 1 other person and the gear. problem is, the boat is rated for only 440 lbs (or 3 persons) but we're going to be a little over that... (maybe 50lbs) (we're estimating) on smooth water, not making any sharp turns or anything... is this gonna sink me? would prefer to make one trip, but would prefer above that not to sink the boat, my gear, and my friends gear.
  4. I'm certain there is a post somehwere on her about this. however... I have a manual transmission f250 2 wd, and am paranoid about it rolling back into the lake as I launch my boat (if alone) I went and got a pair of cheap $5 chocks from Wal-mart and tried them on one dock, and they seemed to work. question is, have you heard of any trucks rolling in while using wheel chocks? I put my truck in granny low, set the e-brake (which works) and use the wheel chocks. I 1.) dont want to to sink my rig, and 2.) dont want to end up on some arrogant you know whats you tube page for a mistake. (a mistake tat would cost thousands) pobodies nerfect. probably worrying to much, so...
  5. i've considered Wappapello, but not being a very experienced boater, or boat launcher I'm honestly avoiding larger lakes right now. I may hit it later this year tho... how are the boat ramps there? where's the best place to launch/fish? any help would be great!
  6. it was an aluminum prop, checked everything out and it's all good.. i've considered Wappapello, haven't fished there in years. will probably hit it this year as well.
  7. can any one direct me to a service manual, or info on how to do this? this was my dad's boat/ motor before he passed away. he always took immaculate care of things so I've no doubt it's up to date, but better safe than sorry. i've watched a few videos, none specifically for that motor tho... thanks a lot.
  8. Thanks a lot for the info... I actually went out to DiSalvo lake last tuesday, I figured middle o fthe week and we'd be alone... we got a late start (there by 9am) and there was already 5 boats there, and as the day wore on more pulled in. We caught a couple crappie, o real decent one, but didn't have the right bait for 'em. I'd forgotten all my crappi stuff at home. I did bang up the prop pretty good on the boat tho... and yes it is shallow, I'd say the average depth was about 5ft. Talked to a couple folks tho and they'd say they were catching some bass, not a lot tho. May head out to council bluff soon, how's the "enough boat ramp" ? im debating between that or the campground at te other end of the lake.
  9. never fished it, probably give it a try in the next month or so..... how is "enough" boat ramp? heard it was gravel? is it still decent? or would you recommend going to wild boar campground, forking out the $4 and launching there?
  10. Hello, quick question... my wife ad I took the boat out, unfortunately either my prop was real bad, or we hit something just right but one of the blades of the prop broke, the lake was a no wake area, and we didnt use the engine much (we didn't notice the broken prop until we were finished fishing. Tho right near the end I did note a slight wobble. what do I need to check for to make sure the wobble didn't cause damage to the motor? leaking seals? etc? I am 100% new to boats, and outboards, so... please be specific. thanks
  11. i've actually done that! hoping to get out to one this weekend, or early next week - now all I have to worry about is whether my f250 2wd (which gets stuck on wet grass) will pull the boat OUT of the water without spinning the tires on the ramp. :-) and of course paranoia that my truck will slip out of gear and roll into the lake.
  12. and yes, st. louis area... :-)
  13. oh yeah, when my dad was alive we'd head up there for crappie, great size, and seemed always able to catch a mess of them. I've not been up there in a couple years tho..
  14. been fishing for years, usually in boat I was with my dad... small creeks, public lakes, etc by myself. now that I am older, have a boat, I'm looking for something closer (less than 1.5 hours from St. Louis) where one can launch a boat, and expect to catch something... (bass/crappie) is council bluff lake any good? i've read mixed reviews. i dont mind Mark Twain or Wappapello, but they're a little but of a stretch (nearly 2 hours)
  15. also looking for others to fish with... let me know if you're interested.
  16. just joined, 'bout 20 min south of st. louis. are there any lakes close that are worth fishing nd where I can launch a boat?
  17. Hello, wanted to post here, i've been mostly a shore fisherman all my life..... occasionally going out with my dad in his Bass Tracker. Sadly he passed away last november, He left me his boat, but I have to admit I know nothing about boats. I've only towed one a few times, etc. never launched one, loaded one onto the trailer etc. any tips? the best experience is... well... experience. however being a newbie, when is the best time to go when a new bie like me (slow to back up, slow to pull forward, slow to load the boat etc) isn't going to hinder people who've done it for 10 years. I suspect during the week, but looking for any tips you may have. thank you
