  1. great advice, thanks.
  2. ive never heard of Rte J, ill have to check it out tho... quite a haul from my house but looks like a decent lake. I've not tried any of the others, thanks.
  3. Yeah I actually drove out to the one next to that lake and pretty much wasted my time. Caught 3-4 dinks. I saw this lake tho.. that's a big big drag for a 100 lb yak
  4. OK, are there ANY decent small lakes, creeks, etc within an hour of St. Louis? I spent most of late last year at Perry County Lake, and Bismark CA (DiSalvo lake) and did fair.... Occasionally hitting big river where the jet boats couldnt reach.. but never caught a lot.. one 3lb largemouth. thats about it. This year due to a a variety of crap I am just now able to get out sometimes, and have hit Perry lake again, caught 1 dink in 4 hours, I drove two hours to Jack Floyd Memorial lake, in Bowling Green, MO and shoulda just stayed home. I caught 3 miniscule bass. I dont typically fish with anyone, so putting in at one spot, and taking out at another is typically off the table. I'd love to do it, but not really an option. Im conidering Council bluff, i've only fished it once, an didnt do well. for those who fish Jacks fork, Bourbese, Current and all the usual yak spots, where do you put in/take out from? My yak isnt the best, big and bulky... pereption striker, angler 11.5 (gets the job done tho) I am not wanting to kayak on Mark Twain Lake, Table Rock, or any of the larger lakes... i like smaller bodies of water
  5. hey all anyone ever fished perryville lake? thnking about heading down there with the kayak and wanted to know what to expect. I know it gets like 30' is it worth fishing or just a waste of time. only day I can run down there is a saturday.. hopefully it wont be to busy
  6. this is like the 50th post in various forums with youtube hate. BUT I do understand where the original poster is coming from. I often take a video camera with me fishing... and often never turn it on... cause I feel I have nothing worth sharing... to share. youtube isn't about education, it's like tv it's entertainment plain and simple. a lot of posts are informative which is great others.... not so much,. Juanelo rocks!
  7. Capt fishatron the magnificent
  8. i watch them occasionally.. flukemaster used to give great tips.. now.. not so much. at least the last few I saw. the other dudes are making money, thats it. more power to 'em I guess. what I wanna know is: is working like this paying enough to get new bassboats? $2,000 kayaks? new rods, reels, go pros etc? some of those dudes are pretty young and they're out there toodling around in new boats, towed by new trucks, etc. i guess if they can do it... more power to 'em. Hell if I could fish or hunt for a living thats where I'd be!
  9. alright folks, I live near Herculaneum and always put in the Joachim creek right there. however, after paddling miles up the creek I've caught a grand total of 1 bass. over the course of about 5 trips literally throwing everything I have. Other than Walther Park in desoto, MO are there any other accesses to the creek open to the public? parks, ramps? anything? i I am in a kayak so i dont need an actual boat ramp, just a place to put in. let me know... please.
  10. ugh... forgot to mention my limitations on taking rods.. I am in a kayak. i CAN hold up to 4 rods... my issues is however. when i cast... I am hitting my rods, casted one into the creek (got it back tho) , ripped the eye off another. I'll have to figure out how to rig it so I am not hitting them whats a good middle depth bait? crankbait? spinner? swim bait?
  11. alright... yuour fishing a river, creek, lake... whatever... your not getting hits on whatever your throwing. you've tried variations on your retrieve, etc. how long do you wait before tying on something else? how often will you switch up before moving on to a new area of the water entirely? I've been fishing this creek and it doesnt matter what I throw I am not getting hits. today I fished nearly 4 hours... had one hit, that came off right at the boat about 10 minutes before I had to leave. but I had switched lures about 20 times. I threw everything i had.. this fish hit a weightless rubber crawdad, thing is I had the exact set up 45 minutes earlier and switched it out for a spinner when I caught nothing after about 30 minutes on it. did I switch to soon? NOW where I (almost) caught the fish was a different location from the others.. though same type... wood, rocks, overhanging branches.
  12. is this bowling green reservoir? well the lake right next to it? it loks like there is a boat ramp there (per google maps) - I have been looking for a lake to kayak fish in... but really dont want to deal with boat traffic will I am more expereinced in the kayak.
  13. alright, been away from fishing for a little while. finally back at it... have a kayak and have been fishing Joachim creek here in MO, near Herculaneum access. I have not had a lot of time to fish, but have been out 3 - 4 times now... only about 1 - 3 hours each time.... and each time not getting beyond the hwy 55 bridge (slowly fishing my way up the creek) yesterday as I was out the &*%^&*^$*& asian carp nearly took my head off. no exaggeration there had to be 500 - 1000 of them milling about. everytime I made a move they all went nuts... (this was near where sandy creek enters Joachim) my question is... are there still any bass there? I've caugfht one in all my trips there, fishing rubber worms, buzz baits, spinners, every size and shape. I suspect the stinking asain carp have done a number on the bass and other game fish in the area. I am not looking for hotspots, but if you fish this creek is it just me, or is there bass here? and I am talking about this general area. I know they're way further upstream, but this is closer to my home. if I am able I am going out for a couple hours tomorrow morning as well... I work nights so wont have a lot of time to spend. is it presured a lot and I am using the wrong equipment? I am throwing the wrong thing? or have the carp basically killed everything off in that area of the creek... a few years ago I floated up to horine in my bass boat and only caught 3... and those were all right near the horine bridge. I attributed that to high water (which is the only reason my boat went back that far).... but now I am not so sure!
  14. Water types and clarity has varied.... Most recently a small creek, water clarity was decent, maybe 3 ft. No way to know temp, but guessing at mid 60's. Some rock, intermittent wood. Gravel bottom, occasionally mud/silt tho few and far between where I am at. Tried the ultra lights with inline spinners as well..... Caught 2 bluegill.. Been hot here for his time of year.... 80's to 90's. Chance of rain everyday, tho more often then not nothing comes of it. Creek Is a little up right now.
  15. alright... been fishing both in a boat, and wading for 2 months now... as often as I can, which is at least once or twice a week. mainly creeks, (large and small) but also a few lakes. the biggest thing I've caught is probably around 2lbs, and total all year, MAYBE 5 bass!! last year, in the creek i was fishing this weekend, I tore them up... caught several over 2 - 3lbs, and one close to 6 (massive for the creek i'm at).... using my boat I ran literally about 8 miles up a creek, fished all the way up and back, took about 7 or so hours, an caught two bass. one not worth talking about and 1 anout 2 lbs. in either of the lakes (one was a wash - i took my daughter who, now I know, has a tremendous fear of bugs) but the other we fished approximately 4 - 5 hours, and caugth NO bass, and only two small crappie (once we gave up on bass) anyone else sucking as bad as I am this year? been throwing everything, crankbaits, worms, spinner, topwaters... etc. just no luck.
  16. how'd you do? i was there shortly after this post.... the ramp at the park is NICE... one of the better one's ve been to. however I only caught 3 little bass, and those on minnows. in the lakes defense I had my wife and daughter with me, and bees kept buzzing around.... to make a long story short, i left after only a few hours. would still like ot fish it right.
  17. i've caught bass previously.... the MDC states it's a great place for both large and small mouth. (though the smallies frequent areas way up stream) I may try some live bait.... thanks. minnows? worms?
  18. i've been fishing a large "creek" by my home, waters slightly up, not bad... visibility is pretty decent... and haven't caught crap... slow moving water, average depths range from 7 - 15 feet (with 8-10 being most common) not a whole lot of structure on the bottom from what I can see in the depth finder - i've thrown everything from rubber worms, crankbaits, topwaters, spinners, tubes, jigs... not one darn bite. I'm stumped! there is one spot where a creek runs into the creek i fish, drops from 5-6 ft, to about 11, occasionally seeing fish suspended near the dropoff, but still no luck. i've fished shallow, i've fished deep i can not figure it out. to my knowledge it's not really fished that hard...i could be 100% wrong tho. it's an easy spot to put the boat in, the only way to fish it is from a boat - unless u own the land along the creek. just stinking stumped. both rods have baitcasting reels, they were my dad's before he passed and the line is at least 10lb test, more likely 15lb (mono i assume) any help or tips would be appreciated.. never fished a drop shot, but going to hopefully be back out there friday, and will throw one then... any tips would be helpful... no clue what the water temp is... I'm assuming 60's the creek is loaded with darn asian carp, will that affect the fishing? I went to unhook a snag i had this AM, and apparenlty spooked one, when he jumped he didn't miss my head by 10 inches... would hurt like mad... probably weighed 10lbs. but i digress. any help is GREATLY appreciated.
  19. Sorry about that, I am near St. Louis missouri
  20. question for you all... I plan on fishing a local creek this weekend, the creek flows into the mississippi near where I put in. the water is up, and i believe rising... tho very slowly. would I be better off fishing else where? the water isn't muddy, it's just up. can I still catch bass in high water? where would u fish? what would u throw...
  21. anyone ever fished it for bass? I put the boat in there for a couple hours last week, just to test some things on the boat, and casted a few times and had a couple large mouth... I plan on fishing it more in the coming weeks, but how far up can you run in a boat? heading away from the mississippi. (not sure you can access the mississippi anymore since they built that new road) can I expect to catch small mouths in the creek as well? let me know if you fish it... not looking for any secret spots, basically how far up can one go... i know in the summer it gets pretty low.... I went as far as 55 bridge last time... water depths were 4 - 10 feet all the way, at the boat ramp they were closer to 15ft. lemme know... thanks a lot.
  22. well since posting this I've found out this is the trolling motor that came with the boat. (1986) so I guess 28 years is a pretty good run. I am not intrested in all that GPS navigation stuff. problem is good luck finding a bow mount trolling motor under $300. what's the name of the trolling motor repair place? I do have a motorguide transom mount I'll be using until I can save enough for a bow mount. don't know if a 23 lb thrust will move my boat or not... (it's only a 15' '86 basstracker..) basically a glorified jon boat with a 40 horse on back.
  23. No, it doesn't, checked for a fuse, the previous owner apparently reworded things and by passed the altogether. When I spin the prop with my finger, it doesn't spin freely, kinda jumpy... If that means a bad bearing, would this completely block the prop shaft from spinning when on? Sorry if these are stupid questions.., I am a first time boat owner
  24. Alright... Took the boat out the other day, trolling motor worked like a champ, I loaded the boat when done, and came home. It's a hand control one, so I gave the handle a twist as I put it away and nothing! I charged the battery thinking it was that... And still nothing. It's acting like it's not getting any power, then I took off the prop thinking perhaps fishing line was twisted around it or something, and it was not loose, but felt a little wobbly, had some play in it for sure. As I took it off a small pin appeared to have broken.. The pin was behind the prop, now immediately before I loaded the boat, I did hit a submerged.. Something.. Not sure, and the motor did have a wobble.. Didn't run it long with wobble, enough to notice one... Then loaded the boat up... Did I fry my motor?
