I always have wondered if I would have stuck with it and went full time tournament fishing myself....I use to fish 6 days a week do some seminars and was sponsored when I was younger....Also I started the local night club that KVD use to fish every week and his nephew still fishes from time to time... Yep I would beat KVD every once a while or finish second to him a lot so I have no doubt I could have done it not having any kids and a understanding wife.....One major problem I am not rich and I know and have seen guys go broke trying to make a living fishing... Also I am sure that there are many folks on this forum that could compete against say the elite guys or the top flw deal...It just takes money and 6 to 7 days a week 10 to 12 hours a day of fishing....Oh I forgot a good click is key....Kevin had it so does Jonathon I would think...you know his uncle. I have made a lot of money also and am not saying how much but I am sure all my boats trucks and motels baits etc. cost more than I made.....I was luckey because all my tournament fees were paid and my last boat... I still am not a full time pro fisherman today but who knows I win the lottery and I told myself I would put my money in for a year and give it a try....But what do we have if we do not have our dreams... I still fish 20 hours a weekend as I have this dumb engineering job...Jay

Thanks reading other post/threads this site and others I was wondering about the outboard shaft (Big Motor) getting in the way with the SI...Jay

I Just bought a 899 HD SI and a 859 HD DI and replacing my old stuff on my 2000 191 champ. All three duce's that are in the hull are not going to work. Currently I am going to mount the duce on the trolling motor for the 859 and the other on the transom for the 899 and when possible I am going add a in hull and switch it from one to other...I have a flasher for high speed currently. I have had all transduces put into my boats when bought new but my hardcore tournament days are over so I am updating this boat... My question is if I mount on the transom today where is best spot for side scan without side scan interference for the 899.... Per this thread I bought both of these shipped for $1512.00 to the house with the TM motor bracket ...PM me if you want vendors name Thanks Jay

I agree 100 percent...only problem today is that the e-brake or the 5 time dimmer light switch deals does not turn lights off anymore on a lot of GM products

I always find the most fish down toward Ruggels Beach that would be heading toward Vermilion ...I would fish tubes and blade baits. I have gotten a spinner bait deal also around the islands but not enough weight to win a tournament. Glacier ridges are key and a wind sock or 2 a must also... Keep in mind I am not a local but an old tournament fisherman...Jay

I know this is a old post but here it goes ...I started the Thursday night tournaments on Gun back in the late 80ties and it is still going today.....KVD started fishing it years ago and JVD was a fishing it and still does from time to time... It is a volunteer deal and a 100 percent payout....In the peak of the summer 50 boats is common... Jay

This is a true story that happened at a weeknight tournament in Michigan in the mid 80 ties... My partner and I was a fishing a channel and we had about a half hour before weigh in and we had a nice sack already in the live well.... I then look up the channel and ask my partner "what is that swimming around in circles" He say's it looks like a dog with a sack on his head.......So we blast up on high using the trolling motor and sure enough it is a yellow lab with a Puppy Chow bag over its head and it is just giving up and starting to sink....It was a eating out of the bag we figured. My partner grabs the dog and we throw it up on the front deck and start a hollering for help ....Someone then comes out of the house while my partner is trying to revive the dog as it eyes are rolled back into it's head... All of a sudden the dog spits up and it starts to breath and we tell them we are a fishing the local tournament on the lake and we have to get a going so we can weigh our fish in at 9 .......They say thanks and we tell them we hope everything goes ok with the dog... This tournament was held at the bar on the lake and they got a call a few days later wanting to thank the bass fisherman that saved their dog.... So after that we were called "The Dog Savers" by the other fisherman and thanked by some locals that well did not like a bass tournament on their lake.... So we saved a really cool little yellow lab and gave us tournament fisherman a better name...

Remove what you can and release the fish into a treated live well then release the fish later....Or remove when what you can then release the fish back to the lake..

I have only been on the water 20 or so times but this time of year the bushes can be very good on Barkley and you will be very close if you are staying at that resort.. Just my quick 2 Jay

Just wanted to say hello....Just found this site and it looks pretty good. Been a fishing since I was a young kid and then started to bass fish a lot after I got out of school and shortly after that started fishing bass tournaments... I then started the Gun Lake Bass club in lower Mi. and fished other clubs plus Tri-State (250 boat deal)and other deals I could find ... Yes I have a understanding wife that let me fish 5 days a week. Later on this 15 year old from Kazoo Mi. came along fishing our famous Thursday night Gun Lake open tournaments named KVD and I am sure you know the rest of the story if you are a bass fisherman....Oh his nephew JVD still fishes it from time to time also. Today I am pretty much just a fun fishing after 30 plus years of tournament fishing but will fish a tournament if someone ask me to. I have always been know as shallow water fisherman but will fish deep if the deal tells me to. My favorite fish is the smallmouth as I live in Mi. but love to catch anything that pulls my string. Also I love to back country snowmobile ride and guide in the U.P. of Mi. where we have a place also.. Later and thanks, Jay
