ABEL casting rods?????
Abel is known for high end fly reels. I have an Abel TR Light. It's their smallest and least expensive reel. It's like a fine watch. They sell a few fly rods, but if they make casting/spinning rods at all, I have never seen one and I try to keep up with fly casting world, but who knows??? If Abel puts their name on it, I betting it's going to be high quality. JMHO Ronnie

big fish lure?
D, My PB was caught in a farm pond in Amite La. on May 18th. I tossed it against a bluff bank in about 8-10' of water. She nailed it as soon as it hit the water. She carried it 1/2 way across the pond before I set the hook. She held on a long time is another reason I like this bait. PB #2 was in a cove on my local lake (the fish is in my avatar) 85 degrees in August, bluebird sky almost noon. Fished it real slowly in some submerged logs like a plastic worm. I felt her bump it gently and set the hook. PB#3 was under a bridge in the Tangipahoa river in Robert La. in August about 90 degrees and cloudy. Dead sticking for 30 seconds at a time. Hopped it a couple of inches and wham a viscious strike. I am not sure it won't work anywhere, any time. Ronnie

Rattles with Jigs, Yes? No? Maybe?
I voted sometimes. Delicate presentation=no rattles. If I am swimming them through the stumps and sticks trying to get a reaction strike, why not? Ronnie

The first big batch of the 2X4 UPDATE:VIDEO
That blue beauty at the bottom of your original post would be just fine. ;D The Loomis Backbounce I built is rated for up to 8 ozs. With the Calcutta 400 I should be able to throw it. Now making it do it's magic might take a little practice, but what else am I gonna do. I have a couple of 8" Huds, ROF 5 & ROF 12 I was planning to try. They are almost 5 ozs. Nothing ventured nothing gained. I would be glad to pay you for the lure, just let me know what you need. Ronnie

G. Loomis IMX MBR844C - All around jig rod?
KU, Fish tank is preachin the gospel! If you want to throw a 3/8 oz jig to the moon, just stick a decent reel on that MB844C and you will be amazed. It is my favorite rod, and I have a couple of GLXs. JMHO Ronnie

The first big batch of the 2X4 UPDATE:VIDEO
Why that's a good question Wayne. I would not only like to see it in person, I would like to get some feedback from one of them 10lb Guntersville Bass, if you know what I mean. Not sure what the top water bite will look like in March, but hey, they could get a warm spell & drive them mommas up in the shallows for some egg layin. Ronnie

Jay, Find yourself a BBQ rotisserie motor at a garage sale or at Walmart and make a dryer. They will turn heavy weights slowly with ease and they are real cheap. Ronnie

big fish lure?
They are pork skin like most Uncle Josh trailers. You have to see them in the water hooked up to that big hairy jig. Makes me want to eat one. Ronnie

When You Croak
I am leaving all my fishing stuff to Muddy Man. Wait...on second thought, he would sell all my Shimano stuff and buy Floogers. I am just going to have it buried with me. Seriously, my kids get everything and they are aware of the value of the stuff. They will be in touch with several members of this board to properly dispose of the gear without being ripped off. It is great to have friends. 8-) Ronnie

i need new line...
Hey Cliff, Order a single spool of Ultra Soft. I finally broke down after reading RoadWarrior's posts and grabbed a spool. Now I have enough to last me for quite a while. It really is good line. It behaves like limp mono and it is very strong. Try it. Ronnie

Awesome baits Jay! Very nice work! Did you tie the hackle feathers on the trebles or did you buy them that way? I believe all topwater baits should have a feather or a skirt. JMHO Ronnie

New fly tying bench
Awesome job!! Nothing like having a special place to do your work. The whole world seems to go away when your tying em up. Be sure to post up some pictures of the finished product. I will look forward to seeing it! Here's mine, made of red oak and basswood.............. Ronnie

big fish lure?
A 3/4 oz Jig with an extra skirt tied on with a 9" Uncle Josh Black Widow Eel". This bait is 12" long and looks like a bass should be afraid of it. My top 3 PB bass were caught on it and several that were shorter than the bait. LOL Ronnie

To All of the Cranky Old Dudes:

To Hawgin
I apologized publicly on the 'offending' thread and received an awesome PM response from Hawgin. I hope it's all good and your back in the saddle here. Sorry again. Ronnie

who thinks they have the biggest bass?
My PB looks like some of these guy's swimbaits. I really admire the guys who do all the hard work to catch real trophy fish. FC, WRB, Randall, 4bizz and many others I can't think of now. You guys are heroes in my book. Ronnie

Spooling a Spinning Reel
I use the same reel spooler that I use for my bait casters (it has a line counter). After spooling, I tie the end off and walk across the yard till the spool is almost empty, cut it loose and reel it back with friction through a rag soaked in reel magic. Never think about it again, until next line change. Which I do pretty often. Ronnie

Here are the new twins...
I am looking forward to a detailed review of the Core. I have 3 rods I built on Lamiglas blanks and I love them. Let us know how they fish. Ronnie

What is your favorite Shimano baitcaster?
I voted for the 50Mg. I have 4 of them and I fish with them most often. I also have a Chronarch 100BSV, a Calcutta TE200DC and a Calcutta 400B. A lot of guys love their Calcuttas, but they are not on the list. Ronnie

Post Pics of your Bass Rig
Are you kidding?? That there is a Bass attacker! You can go where the fish are. I have an aluminum Vhull too, floats in less than 6 inches of water. I can run it up in the thickest cover and fish. Those high dollar bass boats wouldn't dream of going where I do. On most lakes you have a lot of water that big glass boats just can't get to. I think it can be a big advantage on small lakes where you don't have to cover a lot miles with an outboard. JMHO Ronnie
