  1. Palomar knot..........easy to tie and almost 100% strength... http://www.fish4fun.com/palomarknot.htm Hope this helps. Ronnie
  2. I think the quality of these reels gets lost in the hype and debate about computer chips and overpriced technology. The fact of the matter is, I have fished with some of the nicest reels out there and when you hold a TE DC in your hands, you can throw away the computer control and you still have one of the most amazing reels you have ever seen. The fit, finish, balance, materials, smoothness of the mechanics, attention to detail and finally, casting it is like driving a Ferrari. The computer controlled braking (which works amazingly) is only a part of a complete package of performance that is hard to match. JMHO Ronnie
  3. I like Power pro, but you will get several opinions pretty soon. From older threads the most popular are, in no particular order.... Power Pro Suffix Braid Stren Super braid Tuff line braid Braided line is very subjective and will behave differently on different equipment. I would suggest doing a search on this site for braid and read. At the end of the day you will have to choose one and try it. You will either love it or hate it. It's not just about what brand, but size (line diameter), the size of your reel spool. Baitcaster or spinning reel, a lot is going on with how braid performs. Stick with it, if you find the one that suits your fishing style, you will be glad you did. JMHO Ronnie
  4. Don't knock them till you try them. I have a TE200DC and it is amazing. Will cast a feather into the wind. JMHE Ronnie
  5. 1. T- rigged Culprit black shad worm. 2. Jig & trailer 3. Senko type worm weightless. 4. Spinner/buzzbait. 5. Dog walking topwater (Spook or Sammy)
  6. Some of these have to be corporate or business expenses. Otherwise they fail the logic test. Take the gas bill. If it is gasoline/diesel at $3/gal he would have to burn 266 gallons of fuel a day 365 a year. Full time truckers don't burn that much fuel in tractor trailers. If it's natural gas for heating, the Superdome in New Orleans doesn't burn that much gas. I suspect these bills include most, if not all of his employees and entourage. JMHO Ronnie
  7. I have caught one fish on a crankbait and a gazillion fish on soft plastics. That's pretty much the difference for me. Ronnie
  8. 7' MBR844C IMX and 7 1/2' FS905 Flippin Stick. I pitch and cast jigs into real nasty cover and I want to be able to pitch/cast as far as I can accurately. Longer rods help with this. I also want to retrieve the log the bass is wrapped around if I have to, hence the heavy power. JMHO Ronnie
  9. Senile1, I hope everything works out with your job & family. I will take your name off the list, but will expect to see it go back on when you find the job is secure. Keep us posted. Ronnie
  10. Mobydick, Check your PMs. Ronnie
  11. Zel, No need to apologize, or feel bad. Never dreamed you would think of offending me. Have all the fun you can on me, that's what I'm here for. LOL Oh, and BTW, picking my brain will take less time than picking your nose. Haven't heard of any new drugs for RA. I take Methotrexate (pills) and Humira injections twice a month. Going to get new knees this year. Would rather have a new rod. LOL I really want to get up to PA and fish a day with you & Muddy when the weather breaks. Ronnie
  12. Zel, I have to qualify my statement a little. I am very familiar with that list of NJ lakes. I have such Rheumatiod arthritis that I cannot walk the banks of any of those lakes. Of the 300+ lakes on the list, less than 70 have boat ramps at all and many of those so called ramps are inaccessible to me. If you actually go to most of those lakes on that list you will find they are storm water retention ponds that get drained regularly or they are so polluted that the fishing is nearly nill. If you look at the tournament schedule for all the Bass clubs in the state, you will find they all spend their tournament time in only 1/2 dozen of the lakes on that list. NJ has some world class salt water fishing, but is near the bottom of the list for freshwater fishing. I'm not complaining, just realistic. Ronnie
  13. This is the 27th year in a row that I'm going to learn to fish crankbaits. ;D Ronnie
  14. I'll take them worthless knock off trick sticks on your coffee table. I will help a brutha out when he gets bored. Ronnie
  15. In some areas, the available fishing waters are relatively rare. This is the case where I live. In order to fish "new" water, I will have to travel some distance. I wonder if, as long as both members agree there's no unfair advantage, if they could compete in water fished before, probably by both of them? Just a thought. Ronnie
  16. Russ's video is right on. Nothing skips like a tube or a Fat Ika. Ronnie
  17. It's hard to lay mine down flat on the table because they are actually twisted/rippled? a little. Here's a 7.5" and a 10 " laying on the table and a 7.5" hanging in the air... Ronnie
  18. Here ya go Brent....... 7" and 10 " would be my size picks and best colors would be Black Shad, Black, Red and Motor Oil. Ronnie
  19. I just look at the jig and say to my self "it still needs a bigger trailer". Then I fish it for all it's worth till I can find something bigger. The west coast swimbait guys love them big old 6 oz swimmers, but I like a 1 oz Arkie jig with an extra skirt and a 9" Black widow eel for a trailer. Ronnie
  20. Let's see... it takes approximately 1/2 a cast for me to get used to the particular rod I am fishing with. I for one, am glad I'm not stuck with only one rod. JMHO Ronnie
  21. Back on topic... You don't have to like Chinese, Japanese, Tiawanese, or other countries products, but you no longer have a choice about competing with them in business. It's a global economy now, and there is nothing that can be done about it except compete in it. You either have to beat them or join them. They are not going away. BTW- I own a small business in the good old USA and almost exactly 1/2 of every dollar that comes through my door goes to some type of tax. Ronnie
  22. Try a Smithwick "Devil Horse". It's a topwater prop bait, longer than a Torpedo. It's a bigger bait and you can cast it a mile. It's a fish catcher too. JMHO Ronnie
  23. He wasn't married to the mother of his child. She probably will not have any rights to his estate, except child support hopefully. Nothing seems good about this situation. Sad, very sad. Ronnie
  24. Absolutely! The Bass Bus rolls in March. YaaaHooo! Ronnie
