  1. "The Jerk" Steve Martin's classic. Ronnie
  2. I use a G. Loomis DSR820S GLX dropshot rod with a Shimano Stella 1000FB reel and #6 Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft line. Ronnie
  3. I have caught a few 3+ lb bass on the fly. There is no reason you couldn't catch a big bass with fly tackle. There's a guy on VS TV that catches 500lb billfish on a flyrod. Ronnie
  4. All the high end bait manufactures in the world are spending big $ in R & D to develop a bait that will come close to a "Manns Jellyworm" for catching fish. LOL Great post and a good insight. JMHO Ronnie
  5. There are many others that I love and most have been mentioned already, but nothing beats Linus quoting the real Christmas meaning from Luke chapter 2 in Charlie Brown's Christmas! JMHO Ronnie
  6. UH OH! You've done it now! It's kind of like drugs, the first one is a great deal you couldn't pass up. Now you MUST HAVE MORE!! LOL I used to have several GLX rods and now I am down to only two. I am convinced that $ for $ you can't beat an IMX Loomis rod. They are fishing machines. Congratulations! But if you are like most of us, you better start saving up, the bait monkey has your # now. LOL Ronnie
  7. Mine is a Loomis Flippin stick, 7'6". I love it for both pitchin & flippin, but I admit I rarely flip baits. If mine were any longer I think it would be awkward. Also a full 8' rod won't stand straight up in an average house or lay down in most pickup beds. Just some things to think about. JMHO Ronnie
  8. "No one knows about that day or hour , not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son. But only the Father. MATTHEW 25:36 Ronnie
  9. Way to 'Git er Dun' AVID!! Nice fish and a great day! Glad you and Steve had an awesome day! CONGRATULATIONS on the new PB! Ronnie
  10. I have 4 50 Mgs and I think they are the best reel for the $ anywhere. I don't use them in salt, so I can't help much there. They are light as a feather and strong as a horse. You won't be disappointed in a 50 Mg, I guarantee it. JMHO
  11. Just bear in mind if you fish all day, a longer rod will wear you out a lot quicker. I only have one rod over 9' and it's reserved for surf fishing where distance is important. With a weight cored line or a heavy shooter you can get a lot of distance with a 9' rod. If you fish floating line for trout or bass you will want accuracy more than distance. JMHO Ronnie
  12. I have 4 Chronarch 50 Mgs, a Calcutta TE200DC, Calcutta 400 and a Chronarch 100BSV, used to have two green Curados, two Chronarch 200s and two Calais 200s. If you are talking about how far the handle will move backward if you change handle directions, you are mighty particular if you ask me. On all my reels, I have never noticed it. I also have 3 ABUs and a Quantum and have fished with Diawas and Pflugers so I have a lot to compare it to. JMHE Ronnie
  13. I think all of this discussion (hot air) is definitely contributing to Global Warming. Keep up the good work. Ronnie, President NAAGW
  14. I have 4 50Mgs and I love them. A couple of them have been around for couple of seasons and they are still like new, don't ask me why, but they seem to get smoother over time. I don't have any dounts that they will hold up just fine. I have been looking at the Core also. VERY TEMPTING! Get thee behind me bait monkey! Ronnie
  15. Robert, I only have one Sage Fly rod, it's a VPS 4wt. trout rod, Sage make a fine rod. I use a G-Loomis FR1089 GLX 9' 2 piece for stripers when boat fishing and a 10' 12wt that I built on a Mahogany blank for fishing in the surf. Two Orvis 6wt rods for LMs. I only have one Abel (TR Light) and it is an awsome reel. For heavier stuff I am using Fly Logic, Orvis Mach IIIs and a Pflueger Trion. Fancy aluminum fly reels and salt water don't mix very well. Let me warn you Robert, fly gear is a special addiction and can be way more expensive than conventional bass gear. You certainly won't be disappointed with Sage rods or Abel reels. JMHO Ronnie
  16. Eric, It was suggested that newer members be noted so new members would know they are welcome to join us. In other words, this is not an exclusive trip for senior members. Yours was a typo (wrapping error) and it has been fixed. WOW! it takes no time for mistakes to be found, THANKS! sorry for the typo. Ronnie
  17. OK everyone, I promised this to you a while back and it's finally ready to let it out of the gate. The "Roadtrip" website is up and running. Please remember that I am not a professional "Webmaster" and the site is not full of flash and dazzle. It is my hope that putting all the information in a single website will make it easier to get information on the trip without having to sift through lots threads and posts. I had a lot of help with this, Jimzee79, Speedbead & Ghoti did a pile of research and fact finding and Glen was very helpful with the site itself. Without further ado.... http://guntersville.bassresource.com/ Ronnie
  18. My daughter uses a Zebco Rhino spincaster and it is a step up from the 33. I can't speak for it myself, but she has had no problems with it. Changing the line every other outing will make them perform much better. The Rhino has a red cover, bought it a Wal Mart. Ronnie
  19. I usually get a case of candy 2 lb boxes, or quarts of real maple syrup to hand out to some of my clients & friends at church. My UPS man John always gets one with a thank you card. He delivers to me 10 times a year or so, but he is top notch and friendly. Ronnie
  20. I am the president and founder of the NAAGW. That's the National Association for the Advancement of Global Warming. I am freezing my butt off! Ronnie
  21. I took an average of the last 10 dinks I caught, added their weight together and divided by 10. The average was still a dink. LOL Ronnie
  22. Aaron, Sorry about your grandpa. Yesterday was the 6th anniversary of my wife going home to be with the Lord. Time makes the hurt subside and the memories can bring back a lot of the joy. Hang in there! Ronnie
  23. I hear that cross her eyes often. Feel dumb for asking....but what exactly does that mean? :-[ It means set the hook as hard as you can without breaking your rod/line. It is presumed that setting the hook with such force will make bass's eyes cross. Probably so.... Ronnie
  24. The CR724 is an awesome rod, but it is short and stiff. I have one and use it for jigs & worms in tight places and when I am beating the bank. Not the best choice for cranks or spinnerbaits. IMHO Ronnie
