  1. The day I got my first topwater blowup. A 3.5 lb fish, and it fought for days! I was 12 and fishing with a jitterbug. I hadn't had a bite all day and it was the middle of May, in Fl in the dead of the afternoon in open water. I have had great days of fishing, but that one will always stick out from the rest.
  2. It doesn't get cold enough for the water to "freeze over" so if there is ice, its pretty thin. 2oz flippin weight and start punching. The cold doesn't deter me, I have thermal gear.
  3. No rain this morning but it is going to rain later on this evening. Dropping pressure, rising temps, partly cloudy, winds outta WSW, I am catching fish today. I sure miss So Cal fishing but VA isn't that bad either. I feel bad for you Nor Cal guys. I have a friend that lives near Shasta and he said its basically a puddle. What a shame...
  4. Looks like a small white perch. That's awesome you caught some in colder weather, congrats!
  5. Nice fish! I love it when my reel screams and cries, it means good things are coming.
  6. Wow, 800 dollars, 1240!?. My most expensive combo is 6'6 Damiki Dark Angel paired with a *** *** reel. I paid 320 for it but the rod was on sale.
  7. I have 2 mojo rods, one glass cranking rod and the 'spinnerbait' casting rod. I love them both. I had a mojo spinning rod but I broke it and I decided not to buy another. I like the Powell Diesels, less money, same sensitivity, if not better, for less money. I have wanted to try a LTB rod but I can't justify spending that kind of money on one and I probably won't have that kind of money to spend until next year.
  8. I would go around to the north side and cover the whole east side keying in on those spots where the contour lines get close together. That means sharp drop ledges with access to deep water and shallow water. There should be lots of spots there with fish. I would use something natural looking, like a sexy shad crankbait or a sexy shad double willow spinnerbait.
  9. Every Tuesday from 8am to about 6pm. Sometimes I will wait til 10am, 11am and sometimes I leave the lake at 5pm, 7pm, 8pm. It just really depends on the day but its always every Tuesday.
  10. This is what happens when something works too well and a few people get miffed because they aren't catching them and don't want to throw an Arig on. Yes you can pull in 2 or more fish at a time, but you still gotta find those fish...if it's not against the states fishing laws, then it shouldn't be banned...but I'm not in charge at BASS.
  11. Thanks for the responses fellas. I guess I am going to be ordering some to try them out. Francho, true they do look like baby turtles as well, never thought about that either. I love this place, you guys always have great info!
  12. I fish wacky, its my confidence, go to, pretty much everyday technique. I rarely ever get a gut hooked fish(and I fish with #3 hooks sometimes). It's all about the feel. You really gotta know what it feels like without a fish so when one is on, you know to start your hook set. Go out and throw it, I guarantee you will catch fish on it. As far as barbless hooks, I never use barbless hooks, unless the body of water calls for it. Some lakes are barbless hooks only, there is one down in San Diego Co. that was like this, very limited.
  13. 7 different rods...3 spinning rods, 1 with a 1/8 oz wacky jig, 1 with a 1/16 oz wacky jig and 1 with a 2/0 wacky hook. 2 jig rods, 1 cranking rod and 1 spinnerbait/worm rod.
  14. Definitely in Fall now. I had a nice day last week catching them on dock posts in about 3 feet of water, all on a wacky rig. Going out today and trying the same pattern.
  15. If I get a miss on any moving bait I always go right back at them with a wacky rigged senko and 9.5 times out of 10, they bite it.
  16. Hey guys, I saw the Savage Gear 3D Crab and I started to thinking about something. I live very near saltwater(Chesapeake Bay), maybe 2 blocks away from the beach. I fish a small pond that is about the same distance from the beach. Now I have never seen them in the lake but I wonder if, maybe, there are crabs in the water. I have been thinking about getting the Savage Gear 3D crab and give it a shot but I can't seem to find any info about crabs in freshwater. I know that blue crabs probably are not in there(it's a swimming crab) but maybe fiddler crabs or some other type of sand crab, maybe? Anyone else have experience with this bait and catching bass on them in lakes or have any info about crabs in freshwater? Thanks in advance!
  17. I'm with Francho on this one. It really depends on where I am fishing. If I fish my favorite lake, which is almost everytime I go out, its much higher than any of the other lakes around here. It's a private lake, less than 50 acres with a very nice trophy bass population and the average weight of fish I catch is between 3 and 4 lbs. I know there are 10lb+ fish in there, I have seen pictures of them, just wish they would bite my line...
  18. Tubes. I have never in my life fished with a tube. I have some Fat Ikas and Keitech tubes that i haven't tried using yet. I do have a few baits and bags of plastics that have never been opened, yet. I like to try new stuff, plus it keeps the bass guessing. If I throw the same thing over and over, they can get conditioned.
  19. I'm not sure if its accurate but it does have a little dial to calibrate it. The fish looked to be about the right size so I assume its pretty close. I don't like the digital ones, they cost more and they break easier.
  20. Happened to me yesterday, all of them were caught on a 1/16th weighted owner wacky jig with a zoom finesse worm, except for the first one and the 2nd, they were caught on jackall flick shake worms, cola and watermelon red flake. I even lost a 5 to 6 lb fish and went right back under the dock and caught the last 2 plus numerous little ones as well. It was a good day.
  21. A Jig and different finesse tactics like wacky worm and the rage rig. A jig especially.
  22. Dark water, windy, you wanna throw a spinnerbait with a big colorado blade and slow roll that thing. I'd have 3 or 4 tied on at different weights since its a decently deep body of water. That way you can fish the entire water column and locate at what depth they are at. Black colored blade, black colored head, with black and red skirt and I'd rig it with a trailer hook since they can't see too well and will be honing in on the vibration.
  23. My other species is usually these guys: I have hooked bowfin but never gotten them to the boat and I catch the occasional crappie slab but I like crappie fishing and don't get upset when I catch one. Sometimes I get a big bull bluegill, also fun.
