Pitchin' and flippin' techniques
Rooster, you definately need a longer rod and if you want to get proficiant with the right hand get a left retrieve reel for your pitchin/flippin rod. Being right handed it took a bit of time to get used to the left hand retrieve but I felt that if this was a natural thing with a spinning rod reel, I could master it with a left retrieve BC.

Pitching and Flipping sitting down
Been doing this for the last 2 years. bad knee replaced in November, still cant spend much time standing in the boat especially in rough water. I use a 7'heavy action rod with a left hand retrieve reel.(just my personal preferance) Start with jig in your free hand just below the reel seat. I pitch to the side of the boat rather than the front, also if you want to make longer flips you can have a lot more line out if you grab it between the 1st & 2Cnd guide or the 2cnd & 3rd guide instead of between the reel and the 1st guide. I also find that while sitting down and flippin this way, the line does not get around the reel handle, that was a real problem for me when I first started flipin from a seated position. Hope this helps, it does get much more accurate with practice.

Madison Chain Wi. Help Needed
Koop, Thanks for the info, Mendota is going to be off limits. I will send a pm on Wed or Thur. I will be headding up sometime on Friday depending on what time my nonboater is able to leave. One of My main concerns is the weather change and what that will do to the bite you have described.

Lake Pewaukee, Wi
I know, went last Sat to try and prefish, got a 40" muskie on the first cast with a jig & pig. One small bass about 2 hours later and that was it, left about 2hours later. Although I did get some blowups on frogs, the fish would not commit! :'( Oh well, the tourney is in 2 days, I will just have 2 fish my but off and hope for the Best.

How Ticked off do you get?
Had that happen with the first fish of the day, in a tournament this year. Pitching the shoreline and this solid 6 lber grabs my bait, saw it when it turned sideways. Didn't through my rod down, but did let go a real streak like a drunken sailor, fell back in my seat and pounded my knees and had a real fit. I then took about ten deep breaths and let it go. My partner and I ended up finishing in 1st place for boater and non boater, yeah it bothered me but if I didn't let it go I never would have been able to concentrate for the rest of the day, I guess that's why its called fishin and not catchin.

New to fishing
Hello and welcome. I live about 25/30 minutes west of O"hare and go fishing quite often. The fox river for smallies, a couple of good lakes within a 1/2 hour drive from home and a lot of lakes in Wisconsin. Often I am looking for someone to share a trip, if interested let me know. Also if you are looking for knowledge I suggest that you join a tournament club, as a non boater you would be out with some very knowledgeable people and it is a very good way to gain a lot of know how on Bass fishing.

Wisconsin, Madison Chain
Good Morning to all, I am going to be fishing for bass this Saturday, Aug 2, on the Madison chain, and have never been there before. I was wondering if anyone had any info on this body of water at this time of year, lakes, areas, lures, presentations, techniques etc.? T.Y.I.A. Guy

What the ...??!!
That really sucks if it happens on the way to the scales and you end up out of the money by a few hundreths of a pound. I curse those dam digital weigh in scales. Earlier this year as I was transfering fish from the livewell to the carry bag, my big bass heaved a good sized crawdad, won the tournament but lost big bass by .01 pounds.

fishing in the sun
You say that if it getcloudy for 3 or 4 minutes you get bites. that shows that the fish are there, they dont just automatically rush in to the banks every time a cloud passes in front of the sun. If you want to keep fishing shallow pay attention to the types of areas that you catch them. Target those same types of areas when the sun is out, try using a twin bladed buzzbait which you can work over/past your target very slowly, if that fails add a pork frog or bulky plastic frog and you will be able to slow it down to almost a crawl. Also you can try a jitterbug fished slow enough to hear the plop, plop, plop. Something about those slow moving noisy surface lures drives those bass crazy. All the areas mentioned by Aint Texan can be very productive. If you cant bring them out of cover by going past the ambush points with those baits, try skipping a Senko type bait under the docs or onder overhanging trees. If that isn't working for you move off the bank and give drop shotting a try. Don't give up, just hit high percentage areas and be creative, and dont forget to save up for a good good depth finder.
