  1. I generally just go for the "buy it now" stuff if I think it's worth it. If I place a bid, it means I can do without it! Josh
  2. When I fish frogs, I want them to splash! They pick up some weeds, but I find it's because of the hooks being bent slightly out (like we do anyway) and not because of any design flaw or larger profile. Regards, Josh
  3. None. Got a 4600c3 instead for a song, and it does exactly what I need it to do! Josh
  4. Holy thread resurrection! ?
  5. I like to palm Ambassadeurs. Their stock handles get replaced by those with wide rubber ribbed knobs as are found on Johnny Morris reels, among others. Josh
  6. You will need to tear the reel down and flush it with fresh, clean water. Don't worry about getting a better rig. That one has its uses. I prefer a Berkely Cherrywood for certain techniques. Sure, I might get a better rod if I could find one with a similar feel, but I'd really only want better guides and maybe real cork on the grip. The hybrid blank works just fine, though maybe a better blank would be lighter. It's in rotation with other, more expensive rods, and the reels are all higher cost quality items. I decided a while back that there's not much substantive to rod snobbery. If the rod does what you need it to for $20, great! If it takes $200 or more for another purpose, by all means drop the coin for that one as well! Josh
  7. So, what do they smell like? Folks talk about the smell... Josh
  8. Awesome. The reason I asked was that I'm wanting to build a combo for squarbills and lipless cranks, and am going back and forth in my rod action/power decision between M/F and M/MF. Thanks, Josh
  9. So, is it like a walleye, or different in configuration? Maybe I'll just invest in one of those lip-holdin' gadgets against the possibility of pike... Josh
  10. How's that working out for you? Josh
  11. I saw this question and started following the thread just to learn the answer. I have never caught a pike and am curious about them. Josh
  12. Sometime take a look at the old MH/F fiberglass rods. I have yet to see one that matches today's idea of a "fast" action. Go with what feels good. Josh
  13. Probably this weekend..! Josh
  14. My vote is for the River2Sea Bully Wa 2. I tried it late last summer on recommendations of some here and I consider it the best I've used. Josh
  15. Darren, Firefox lost me for a while, too. They then improved again and I went back. I like custom configuring. Do you know any good books on Android? I am versed in Windows through experience since 3.1 and because of college networking and computer repair courses, but the Linux kernel was rarely mentioned, let alone dwelled upon. I've become interested in really delving into the system/architecture but can't seem to find any decent resources to learn from. Regards, Josh
  16. Thank you very much for bringing this issue to our attention. I was able to reproduce this issue and I have created a bug report. Glenn, Thank YOU. As of right now I think I can reply on Android due to the change deleting the mobile quote option. This reply is the test. The quote above should show up due to BB quote tags. This new system should be much better. Every change in the history of computer systems has had bugs, but the trend has always been toward steady improvement. Thank you for all you do here! Regards, Josh
  17. Yes, Sir, I did do all that. Are you running Android/FireFox successfully? Regards, Josh Glenn, I did do all the usual stuff. Here's a question: When you tried this, did you type, or did you just put the cursor in the box below the quotes? I ask this only because the problem I'm having manifests itself like this: 1. I hit "reply" or "quote". 2. I touch the box to put the cursor below the quote boxes. 3. As soon as I type, the cursor jumps up in to the nearest quote box and stays there. If I hit backspace, it will try to duplicate the last word in the quote! I've not encountered anything like this, ever. If you're able to type, then it must be something common to three devices on my connection. Your responses are helping me troubleshoot on my end. Thank you. Josh
  18. I'm more than willing to disclose it... been working on a response that wouldn't post from Android FireFox Browser, so I came to the PC. Or were you responding to Alonerankin2? Glenn, The one I have in mind is a modified Kindle Fire. It is running KitKat, not the Fire OS that came with it. The browser is FireFox Mobile. I've duplicated the problem with a Kyocera phone running Android ICS (stock to that phone) and on a month-old Samsung Galaxy. Both of those are running FireFox as well. It's not a software/age issue; if it was my old BlackBerry 8320, I'd not even mess with it. I've yet to try the native Android browser. That's on my to-do list. The common themes here are Bass Resource Forums, Firefox Mobile Browser, and Android ICS to, I believe, Marshmallow. It's acting like there's a memory exception someplace, but I can't be sure of that. I do use another forum that uses this same BBS software and it poses no problem whatsoever. I'm curious as to whether others are having this issue, what the issue is, and if it can be corrected. Regards, Josh
  19. Hello, I have a bug. Running Kitkat with Firefox, I am unable to reply using quotes without being forced to reply inside the quote box. I am not sure what to make of this as all other forums and entries work fine. I have been through the browser and system configurations and see nothing out of the ordinary. Regards, Josh
  20. Problem being IPT goes down with the line level, so you'd have to build an algorithm to handle this. Just because it takes me 70 turns on a 26ipt reel to get it back in does not mean I've cast 50 yards. Regards, Josh
  21. I'm glad you do that. It's excellent! There was a county cop here who I was acquainted with in my youth (Explorer Scout with the Sheriff's Dept). After he retired from the force, he hired on doing youth work and one thing he did was took kids fishing. His heart is bad, though, and I believe he's had to stop. It's a shame. The guy who's going to run for sheriff next election (and probably win) is an acquaintance, as is the new mayor (formerly a city officer.) Generally I like to stay out of the spotlight, but I've been thinking about approaching these folks about starting a fishing program of some sort for kids. There's one that's televised (I just found out) called Hooked on Fishing with a Captain Dan(?) which seems to be concentrated on kids, and it seems to work, though they have sponsors. I guess this is an idea which needs a direction to work. Regards, Josh
  22. Hello, "Business" isn't even the right word. I'm not advertising here, but rather am messing with an idea and would like input. I have my own business, but it has nothing to do with fishing. The one time I tried to expand into that line, I fixed up a pre-UC 5000c, supertuned and all, and put it up for sale. My (now-2yr-old) daughter claimed it, and I considered it sold. She practices working with it daily -- it's one of her favorite 'toys' and probably the most expensive. So, I'm not looking to do that again. She has a good reel. What I would like to do more is this: I'm seeing folks new to fishing, or getting back into fishing, asking about good quality, inexpensive reels. Now, we know that those usually don't exist. Over the past couple, few years, though, I've ordered some of the old bulletproof reels from an auction site when I got good prices. I reconditioned and supertuned them, and gave them to those who could use them. One went to my brother-in-law as he wanted to get back into fishing. It was a Silver Max/Lightening Rod combo with braid if I recall right. One reel went to someone here, I think. It's been a couple years so I'm not 100% sure, but it seems that happened. I have an older Daiwa setting on an older Browning graphite rod for a childhood friend just reacquainted, for him to pick up. (His old rig disappeared someplace.) I've been playing with Shimano Bantams, and I really like them for what they are. They're a little slow even for my taste, but I think would likely serve a new person well. Even with lack of factory parts, they are readily repaired and upgraded using stock or slightly modified parts intended for other reels. As an example, my wife needed a better setup for frogging. She prefers pistol grip, short rods due to preference and her height (5'0"). I found an old Fenwick rod with the tip busted, and with a new tip eyelet, it makes an excellent H/F rod. I rebuilt and upgraded a Shimano Bantam, mounted it, and spooled it with braid. It casts well and should make a better rod than her M/F graphite rod (forget the brand right now) mounted with the rebuilt and modified 1310 Quantum. The Bantam is a great little reel for small hands, even if the gears are a little slow even for my tastes. (They seem to be about 4.1:1; my lowest reels are 4.7:1/21-23ipt.) Should help smaller folks pull bass out of grass. I even found carbon fiber drags which work with this little thing! For larger hands or different preferences, there's always a wide array of Ambassadeur models that were made in Sweden, and early Quantums which, while the paint wears poorly, tend to keep good function. So, the bottom line is this: I'd like to acquire reels cheap, maybe rods as well, fix them in my spare time, and get them to folks who will use and appreciate them. Maybe set up a program of some sort, under the premise that folks who are fishing are folks who are not bored and are therefore staying out of trouble. This goes doubly for teenagers. Retailers would benefit because more folks would figure out what they like/need in the way of new equipment instead of going in blindly and becoming frustrated by perhaps inferior brands/makes of reels or rods. I can't see anyone losing by this. I get to spend time on a fun hobby when I'm not able to fish, and it would make use of tools I already have. Retailers would benefit. Reel repair folks (@Delaware Valley Tackle!) would benefit. We'd benefit as a community. What do you all think about this? Ideas? Would this board like to be involved? Do you know (or are you) are person who wants to fish, but needs equipment? This is something I've been thinking about doing for a couple years. I just don't know how well it would fly, or if it would. This is why I'm bringing the idea here before the 'committee' before moving forward. Thoughts? Regards, Josh
  23. Thank you for the clarification. For some reason I thought those had the 6-block system that that allows you to turn each block on or off. I was wrong. The IVCB is the same system as is found on the Morrum, then, correct? (I am round reels only; low-profile just don't feel right to me. Regards, Josh
  24. @bootytrain Will you clarify what you mean here? Why would you run all 6 brakes on an Abu Garcia? I run three on my Ambassadeurs, and that's only because I don't use much spool tension at all. I guess I'm not understanding what you're trying to do by running all 6 brake blocks. Regards, Josh
