I throw the 4.8" fat on a 5/0 1/4 oz swimbait hook. I also use them as a chatter bait trailer. Awesome bait.

For reference, I got a 2001 Ranger 17' with 125 HP for $7,500 in 2013. I would think anything larger than that you would have to go mid to early 90s to stay in the upper end of your price range. Search Craigslist everyday for as long as it takes (three months for me) and eventually something really good will pop up.
