  1. Gotta say hear hear to this. Since most square bills only go to 6' or less your chances of getting them back are good if you are in a boat or tube. I am never without my extending golf ball retriever that I have converted to a lure retriever. I don't play golf!
  2. Maybe they are for labeling the outside of the reel to help you remember the date you re-spooled and with what. I use little pieces of paper that come on those annoying return label stickers you always get in the mail.
  3. Your knot is not the problem. Your need less backing and more braid. I use an improved Alberto and tuck the knot under, as best I can, at the bottom of the spool. Listen to me, giving advice to a State Record holder!
  4. From what I have observed it is not about food but territory.
  5. Go to a Whopper Plopper for a while until you heal. Just drag it in, but hang on!
  6. Probably worth a shop check. Likely you will save $$ in the long run.
  7. Take some home! Likely they are stunted form overpopulation. Could be a lack of forage fish also.
  8. I want a blow by blow! Everybody likes a good fish story, especially the ones that did not get away!
  9. Check out FFO. Good rods and very reasonable shipping on one-piece rods.
  10. I've mentioned it before but worth mentioning again if it saves somebody a big fish. Anybody that has fished on ocean party boats knows that braid cuts mono almost like a hot knife through butter. It is that same property of braid that makes the uni/uni connection less than perfect. I popped off several fish on the hook set before I figured it out. Any wrap knot is better, and worth learning.
  11. Guys, I'm thinking the Neko rig is basically the same deal but cheaper to rig. It is really effective. P.S. I do not use fancy expensive nail weights, just drywall screws.
  12. Is there some place you can order these maps?
  13. We could use some Charger help here in San Diego! Oh and yes, get the three bank!
  14. None of you guys won that Guess-The-Weight contest, right? I want a scale like Glen uses!!!
  15. That is a DD !!! (decent/dink) Really, 4 lbs would be my guess, but my scale shrinks all my fish.
  16. I have been using Vicious 10# for a few years with no issues. I like regular mono when i can get away with it.
  17. What i don't do is stay in the same place and keep doing the same thing. I see guys fish the same 30' of shore line all morning for nada! The fish are likely not there, at least not today! Yeah, we all succumb to the pole cat from time to time, but you have to go down fighting! My secret weapon for skunk killing is the neko rig on very light line. Never had much luck with the ned rig. Guess it is not a CA. thing.
  18. Another: Figures don't lie but liars sure do figure.
  19. Best advice I can give is this; ease up on your hooksets! Otherwise you will end up popping off fish at the leader knot. Until you have yourself trained, ease off on your drag.
  20. "Really?, I was just dozing off!"
  21. The baits you have chosen to start with are heavy enough but they are bulky and therefore have wind resistance. Try something at least as heavy but smaller. Wind can be a killer for even an experienced BC guy. Also, you are right about not wanting to throw a BC in the yard. It is critical that you see or anticipate your bait hitting the water/surface. That can be difficult in the yard. Finally, what has already been said: practice, but practice right.
  22. There is something between a boat and being shorebound; Float Tube Fishing! Great freedom, stealth, and hardly any lost lures!
  23. Is that a Pickerel? Humor me, I'm from CA.
