Fantasy Fishing 2021 - Official Thread
This was posted by someone else on another message board: From all I've read and heard on BTL and other sources, my understanding is this: * The Elites started 2021 with 100 and will be at 100 for 2022. * 95 Anglers will fish the final event this week. * This season 2 have dropped out and given up their eligibility for next year: Tyler Carriere and Brett Pruett * This season 3 have been granted medical exemptions and can return when healthy: Rick Morris, Clent Davis, and Gary Clouse * 2021 rookies and 3 legends are exempt (legends are Clunn, Fritts, & Yelas) * For 2022, 12 open anglers will offered Elite qualification. * So it all 95 current elect to return, and the 3 medical exemptions return, and all 12 open anglers accept, that puts the total at 110. So 10 have to go. * Based on the 2 year rolling average in AOY points, these are the 10 cuts: Kyle Monti, Kelly Jaye, Dale Hightower, Robbie Latusco, Harvey Horne, Shane Lineberger, Rob Digh, Quentin Cappo, Cody Hollen, Garrett Paquette * Some may save their careers with a good finish this week. Others in jeopardy are: Bill Weidler and Chris Groh *Morris has also stated that he's out next season. He's having hip surgery and is turning 60. He will likely hang it up.

Seth's hair helps his boat get up on plane quicker. It's purely science. Shultz is literally fishing to not get booted from the Elites. I hope he can sustain.

It's going to be interesting to see if Seth fishes to win this tournament, or if he just fishes good enough to win AOY. He's already lost 3 good fish this morning already, but he's already over 15 pounds.

Glenn pays out Circuit City gift cards to the top 25 guys in the group, so yes. You should receive something. Seth has a 55 point lead. That's such a commanding lead. I can remember so many years where it's come down to literally less than 5 points. If he can make the Saturday cut, he's got it.

Wow, what an event. I was busy all weekend and didn't get to watch the live, but I kept checking the live tracking. As much as I hate having these quick turn arounds, I won't complain about back to back weekends of live bass fishing. St. Lawrence kicks off Thursday. Get your picks in quickly boys. And remember, John Cox is DQ from this event. Our current top 5 is: scaleface - 9431 nebass78 - 9384 fish forrest fish - 9361 dirtclod - 9334 fishook - 9325

62, 51, 18, 30, 13. Scott Martin with 16-11 and in 62nd place. A pound or two makes all the difference in the world out there this week. 17-11 currently would put you in 38th place.

What would you throw in a pond that's full of algae / slime
Frogs. Hollow body or a buzzing style like a Horny Toad. A beaver style bait can work well as long as you use a heavy enough sinker to get through the muck. If a 3/16oz isn't cutting it, try something around a 1/2oz.

Buzz Bait Swim
I fish buzzbaits quite a bit once the water is warm enough. My favorite buzzbait being the Cavitron, which is known for being one of the slowest fishing buzzbaits out there because of the design of the holes in the blades. One of my favorite reels to throw this bait on is an old Chronarch 201E5. Yes, a 5:1 ratio. Something about that slow ratio and that blade design gets me bites whenever I won't get bites using a 7:1 ratio reel. So in my personal opinion, having a super fast reel isn't exactly a requirement. Any good buzzbait should have no issues getting on plane and staying there.

Where on the wire is your line tied? No buzzbait should do what you're explaining whenever tied on properly. It should be tied on at the R bend like shown below.

Let’s talk stories. Equipment fails with a fish on?
I bought one of the St. Croix Avid X rods back when they were released. First day out I was throwing a chatterbait with it. I make a really long cast and take one crank and I hook into my first fish. I set the hook and I can tell its a decent sized fish. I immediately notice that my reel isn't securely attached to the reel seat and the reel is on the verge of falling off the rod. So I'm frantically trying to hold a reel that basically isn't attached to a rod, all while fighting the fish. I eventually got that fish in and I probably looked like a 4 year old reeling in their first fish ever. The fish ended up being a 30+" pike. It turns out that I had received a lemon reel seat from the factory that was basically stripped from the factory. So I had to get a warranty replacement and its been fine since.

Lure same as a frog but better at hooking the fish?
You could try a buzzing frog like a Horny Toad or Rage Toad. Or I also do that same technique with creature baits as well.

Certainly looks that way. That's a good way to get a hook in the face too.

Chronarch vs Curado
The Chronarch G is the saltwater safe(r) version of the MGL version. So just read the MGL reviews. I know I personally wrote a nice long review on this website on my experience with the 4 that I own. With all that being said, I prefer the Chronarch line over the Curado. I like the form factor a little better, plus the MGL spool slings baits like no other. It also handles lighter weight baits a little better as well. However, neither is a bad platform at all.

Steve Kennedy is a no frills kinda guy. He's been fishing the elites for a long time and has never repped a bunch of logo's. I remember whenever he won in 2017 on Dardanelle, he literally only had Bass Cat and the Auburn U logo on his plain, baby blue jersey. He won that event swimming a white swim jig in a flooded cove full of bushes using an old Bantam Curado from probably around the turn of the century. So seeing him with a Lowrance, Power Poles, and Lithium Pros logo is a big upgrade On another note, congrats to Hank Cherry for winning it back to back! What an accomplishment to do, especially after watching Kennedy whack them on day one.

Glad to see Steve Kennedy to doing well so far. I wouldn't be mad at all if he won it all.
