  1. Well up here in NH it has been cold. Nov 5th I had to break thru .5in of Ice at the ramp. The water temp inside that marina was 32°F, the water temp on the main lake was a blistering 40°F that ended up warming to 43°F by the middle of the day. This is a 200+ acre lake, needless to say my slowing down and downsizing wasnt enough to get bit. I did not get out this past week but plan to go out this coming weekend. I fear I can see myself winterizing my boat sooner rather than later. The latest I have been out fishing is Dec 20th on a slow moving river, water temp was 39°F and it was sleeting outside. We did catch fish all of 3 but did leave early because the fishing decks quickly froze and became quite slippery. So I ask what particular baits and techniques do you use to catch fish in the 30-40°F water temp range. I can successfully catch them down to 45°F, but I have trouble going lower than that. in terms of consistancy.
  2. I couldnt agree more with you about the grease. I just found that secret last year after 2 complete lighting harnesses later. I have since rewired my entire trailer and used so much heat shrink tubbing that all my connections should be water tight now...
  3. I saw this thread and thought I would add my 2 cents. I, like others, pull all 3 of my batteries and put them down in the basement. I do this because the location I winterize my boat is too far from the house to run extension cords safely. So I pull the batteries, but a good Idea if you are pulling them guys is to keep them somewhat warm. Even if they are down in the basement I place, on the floor, a pair of 2x4s with a peice of 3/4in plywood on top of them. I then put my batteries on the plywood. I do this to keep them off of the cold basement floor. My uncle who owns a Marina said that this was a good idea and would extend your battery life another season or two. Hope this helps.
  4. Yea I hear you there. Sad to say but it is winding down, this warm front might bring the temps up a little though. I am not going to be able to get out this weekend but Im gonna try and make it out for next depending on the weather. I was eyeing my rods to start taking them in and delining them and cleaning and oiling them up. Now thats a fun and exciting task....
  5. Cart7 has a point here. I have a 1994 Nitro with a 60hp Johnson the prop that came with the engine is improperly pitched and has a hard time getting up on plain and staying "steady" as it tends to "Bob". Since my uncle owns a Marina he looked up the proper pitch for that engine and boat and set me up with a new prop. So I use the older one as a backup if I ever need to service the newer one. I also agree that weight distrubution might be an issue if you have it stacked up with gear that will hurt a boats hole shot as well.
  6. Well I dont know what kind of luck you guys had this weekend but for me it was not much. I am honestly thinking I am probably going to head out 1 or 2 more times this season and then winterize my boat. I had to break thru Ice at the ramp this weekend with the water temp being in the 32°F range at the ramp, out on the main lake it was 42°F. We didnt get any fish, which was disappointing. I tried some seasonal tactics and didnt get touched I dont know if the recent cold spell that set in is the cause or if I was just fishing too fast. Dead sticking soft plastics and some blade baits. Any Ideas?

  9. Well I have a christening to go to today so that pretty much sinks plans for fishing this weekend but there is always next weekend. As for what was working last weekend it was soft plastics deadsticked, and do nothing soft plastics at that. I hope you guys have better luck this weekend, or atleast can get out. I have no idea if that warm rain helped or hurt our cause. I wouldnt find that out unless I got out there and poked around for a bit to see. Well good luck and tight lines for you guys this weekend/week.
  10. Yeah, Greenwood is a good small fishing pond. The daycare shut if off completely a few years back which angered me a little because that was a good "Afterwork" lake for me. Id bring my boat to work then head on up to Greenwood. There are some decent size fish in there. Last time I was there 2 yrs ago I think I caught on off a tree in the 3-4lb range. I believe Potanipo is in Brookline NH. I havent been in years so I couldnt tell you what its like either way. I usually stay on Cobbets Pond allot since I live 2 houses from the ramp. I had Charlie Moore and Adam V. out on it after they won their first SB. That was a good time.
  11. I attended a fishing seminar this past spring. The seminar speaker was a field tester for Pradco Lures, one of their main lines is Booyah Baits I believe. So he broke it into 3 categories of colors. Crawfish pattern (reds, oranges, browns) Baitfish pattern (silver and blacks, shad colors, silver and blues) and finaly a Perch/Sunfish pattern (firetiger, perch, sunfish, chartruese). Those are the main color groups and I would have atleast 1 bait from each one. Depending on the type of water you are fishing will determine what colors you should stock more than others. I hope this helps.
  12. Thanks for the links! I was aware of the states web site containing the depth/contour maps, not the other site. I have to take this time to tell you about Gary Clark's Bass Fishing NH Guide lists allot of lakes, towns they are in, species of fish present, contours of lakes, lists vegetation present, access to water, and directions to access. Its a very handy book. When it comes to crankbaits I have no confidence in them what so ever, so even though I have them on board I rarely throw them. Thats one aspect of my fishing that does need to improve. I have fished Potanipo before, it was years ago so I cant quite remember how I did. I know thats where the sate record came from so there are Hawgs in there. I am wondering what are your tactics going to be for the rest of the season untill ice in? I think I may put down the reaction type lures and stay with the plastics and maybe a blade bait.
  13. Heh, yea I hear the boat repair woes. They certainly dont fix themselves. I am the one with the rig. Nothing huge or new but it gets me out on the water and ITS PAID OFF. I have a 1994 Nitro 160 Rick Clunn edition. It has a Johnson 60hp that runs good. I switched out the crap 12V 25lb thrust POS trolling motor with a new 24V 72lb thrust Minn Kota. Replaced the single HummingBird graph by the console with 2 Lowrance X65 graphs one up front the other by the console. That other pond in Kingston are you refering to Great East Lake? or Greenwood Pond? Well as far as the Nashua R. I have been fishing that for close to 8yrs now. I remember driving back there on a dirt road and or cutting through the Highway Depts parking lot to the ramp.
  14. HeHeHe gotta love NBS!!! Well I gotta look at Clarks guide and figure that one out then. Extreme Bass in Windham is well not really a store IMHO, its basically Nissitissit trolling motor repair from Pepperell Ma., with a small store front. so they have some stuff but mainly its just trolling motor repair and service. They do real good work I had mine in there for some repairs and it ended up being bad connections on my boat. Since I had it in there they did some repairs on it from a recall on some parts and fixed the potential problems for free. Well for me on Country Pond if there wasnt any heavy Pads there wasnt active fish, is what I came away with. The first trip this year to Country Pond like I said before was right in the middle of the floods. After reading some articles and talking with some people I should have been fishing some main lake structure and break lines. What I was doing is I was up in back water slop, actually to the left of the campground all the way down the other end of the lake from the Wilders Grove ramp. I was probably a good 2-3ft maybe even 4ft above the actual regular lake level. I mean fishing partner was like wow there is allot of rock and weed down there, when he was fishing a SpinnerBait. Upon closer inspection he was fishing someones rock garden and was ripping through their landscape plants. What successes have you had on the Hollis stretch of the Nashua River? I have noticed in the last few years that, that section of the river now gets allot of pressure more than it used too.

Honestly that IS the trailer I use 90% of the time.
  16. My Nick on the Forum is my Gamer tag. My pic is me holding my pig 7lbs 11oz, not to shabby for a northern fish...

fall baits? FALL BAITS!?! Man I am now looking for Winter transitional Baits up here. I am jealous... :-/
  18. Well from the sound of it you guys are in Kayaks so bigger lakes maybe harder to tame. Some place that I think you guys would do well the Hollis stretch of the Nashua River, Otternic Pond (locally called "Tonic Pond") in Hudson, and Turkey Pond I forget what town that is but its like exit 4 off of rt 89. Right now I am keying on my home waters of Cobbets Pond and maybe another trip over to Canobie Lake. I dont have too much hope in the rest of the season, but hey it beats doing repairs around the house. Hey head over to the "Northeast Fishing Location" I have got a thread going in there for NH Bass Fishermen. I'd like to hear your input.
  19. Wow you are pretty close then. Yea, a little gathering of fishermen is in order, sounds like fun. Had a fair amount of success at Country pond in Kingston and yes the same one that connects to Powwow R.. I tried to fish it early just as the floods were setting in no luck finding anything. No wake rules were in effect for the entire lake, peoples front yards were completely under water. Returned 3 weeks later and cleaned up with a few 3lbers and a handfull of kickers, got back to the truck and found out that Newton has now made it a ticketable offense to park near the boat ramp. It seems thast the norm around here closing off more and more public waters. So do you shop at NBS often? They know me in there.
  20. Im fishing out of Windham NH. I mostly fish my home waters of Cobbets Pond. I also fish Canobie Lake I do these 2 bodies of water the most. Other places I fish: Nashua River, Country Pond, Turkey Pond, Swains Pond, Balch Pond, among others. Do you fish the Mine Falls Dam portion of the Nashua River? As for tactics depends on the situation but I always have a JP tied on.
  21. Looking for some fellow NH bass fishermen. Give a shout out to what lakes to like to hit what part of the state your from and what are your favorite tactics to getting bit in our lakes and ponds.
  22. Well up here in New Hampshire fishing has slowed to a crawl. The water temps are in the 45°F area. Snow yes SNOW was seen falling far north from me, flurries are in the forecast for my area this week. What has got me the most bites was deadsticking do nothing plastics. I did get some action on a reaction type lure. I am fearing I am quickly approaching lake turnover time. Any pointers for when a lake goes through turnover?
  23. Here in NH the water temperature yesterday was 49.5°F warmed upto 51.5°F by the end of the day. They key of the day. Deadsticking, Deadsticking, Deadsticking no matter what you fished they didnt want it moving, except for my 1 bite off of a reaction type lure. Hey NHguy what lakes/ponds do you usually hit?
  24. Slow is the word up here in New Hampshire. When I get out on the lake this weekend I will be expecting water temps in the 40°Fs. The areas around points have been great with reaction type lures and then later its short and shallow with a JP. I am not looking forward to the enevitable and quickly coming "changeover" period. Does anyone have any tips for fishing in "Mid-Changeover"?
  25. New to the Board, but not new too bass fishing. Just thought I would introduce myself and say Hi to everyone here. I am from New Hampshire and like most here, ridiculously hooked on bass fishing. Are there any other board members from New England? Well tight lines all!
