Pitching w/ fluorocarbon line
I made the switch to Fluro last year specifically 20lb Berkley Vanish from 17lb Pline CXX Strong on my most used jig rod. I like the idea of it being almost invisible under water and low stretch. Although my Pline CXX Strong had very little stretch and its color is well suited for the conditions I fish. I will continue to use Pline CXX Strong but will also use the Vanish until I completely make up my mind.

Tired of ice!
Umm yea you guys better not let us Northern boys hear you complain to hard about some of the smaller ponds and lakes that have Ice. I was looking at my home waters watching 4 wheelers and snowmobiles drive all over it. I started to shed a tear and it froze on my cheek... :'(

Beat Charlie Moore-We tried
Sorry to hear that LBH, I thought for sure with some of the direct contact you have had recently that it would have had a brighter outcome.

Ice Safety
I just wanted our members to stay as safe as possible while venturing out onto the Ice this year. The Ice has been slow coming and I am sure many of us are anxious to get out there and try our luck. I scouted the website from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, they had some great tips.

Frozen Pond, Mad Bass
Straight from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources website. 4" of new clear ice is the minimum thickness for travel on foot 5" is minimum for snowmobiles and ATVs 8"- 12" for cars or small trucks (Remember that these thicknesses are merely guidelines for new, clear, solid ice. Many factors other than thickness can cause ice to be unsafe.)

Bow Numbers
While winterizing and covering my Boat up this past year I noticed that my Bow Numbers were in real tough shape. Peeling off and faded. My question for you guys is this. Is there any product (other than a good Rubbing Compound) to use to get the rest of the numbers off and their adhesive. I was also going to attempt to remove the "Mound"of Registration Stickers. Any pointers and or tips would be greatly appreciated. I was planning on replacing them with something on the idea of these here, in Red and Black. Any comments on these Bow Letters would be helpful as well.

Optima Deep Cycle Marine Battery
I checked this out and it looks good I have a Boaters World 18miles from me. I plan on getting 2 of the Minn Kota Batteries made by Trojan the MK31DC, and see how they work. Only thing I have to look out for is the height clearance for me is a real issue due to the small area I have to work with.

Rods, Reels, and Airlines...
OK so got off the phone with Delta. Not great news. It seems anything under 42" is ok and is free to go as Checked Baggage, which clearly my fishing rods dont fall into. The next size is 62"-80" which my rods do fall into come with a hefty charge of $100 each way. Lastly anything over 80" is not allowed. So what I am taking away from this is that I am going to UPS my rods down to my Time Share Condo before I leave and pick them up at the desk when they get there. $200 Round Trip for transporting a Rod Tube seems very steep to me.

Rods, Reels, and Airlines...
I was wondering since I am heading down to Hilton Head SC in Feb, that I might bring down some rods and reels and do a little fishing. Does anyone know if there are any restrictions, guidelines, or general rules for transporting Rods and Reels while flying. Now I do own the Plano Black Plastic Rod 'Bazooka" Carrier. Will that work? Id really like to take the Reels with me in my 'Carry on' as I have a few that Id hate to part with (1 TD-Z, 2 Fuegos, 4 C4 4601 to name a few). Any info on this would be great thanks.

Optima Deep Cycle Marine Battery
That might be an option. I got off the phone with a local reseller of Trojan Batteries and he said his prices would be in the $170-185.00 ballpark. I havent used any of these highend batteries, are they worth it? I am sure right off the start they must be a dream, but do they last? Will I be replacing these things after 2yrs use? Will I be rewarded for the money spent by longevity and they will become a wash with the garbage that I have had in my boat over this last season? Just me trying to put my brain around spending upwards of $200 a battery. I just have a hard time spending that much on a battery I guess.

Optima Deep Cycle Marine Battery
Well the Dual Pro batteries have a listed Reserve Capacity of 200 mins. Granted I know that is 25 mins less than that of the Trojan Battery specified previously. You can see the Specs of the Dual Pro battery here. I got a price from the Dual Pro people on the phone and the 3100 size is aprox $230 + S/H. I havent been able to find a price for the Trojan battery as of yet. Though the thought of a truly Maintenance free battery is appealing.

Optima Deep Cycle Marine Battery
I was reading on the Dual Pro web site that their dual pro chargers can work inline with the AGM batteries. Dual Pro's own (LS 3100 Deep Cycle Battery). I called them and they did warn me of using the GEL type deep cycle batteries. So now that I am pretty confused on what Batteries to get and what brand anyone have any advice?

Honestly I lose track (unless its an exceedingly tough day). Usually my partner is the one who keeps track I can never remember.

Trolling Motors in the Cold
Yea I think this is the way I am gonna go from now on. Taking that off and putting it back on as well as the transducer wire that I have to rerun every spring was a pain.

Optima Deep Cycle Marine Battery
Has anyone had these batteries for their trolling motor? I am running a 24v 74lb MK Maxxum. I have no more confidence in the regular run of the mill Deep Cycle batteries. So I ask has anyone tried these? I also would be charging them with a Dual Pro Onboard 2 bank 10amp Charger. Would these work along with the Optimas? Any Input would be great.
