  1. Anyone care to dissect indian mounds? I may have missed the reading on it, but wow what a diverse area. Tough cookie to crack there. Using the same strategy I just discussed, i was able to pick up a few here and there but unable to find them concentrated. If you look at the 5 fingers to the north you will notice three prevalent creek beds. Worked these areas with moderate success. Does anyone have any thoughts on the ridgeline that runs parallel with the boat lane or maybe the creek bed that Ys into Blackman Branch and towards the indian mounds boat launch? I guess my problem with this area is that there is TOO much grass to dissect and TOO many drop offs. Soo i kind of shy away from it unless i am in exploration mode.
  2. I wasnt particularly targeting the schools as they popped up. I just targeted areas where i thought schools would be more prevalent and have access to shad schools.... Deeep water near main lake coves.. with that being said, I consider Hausen and Six Mile to be a lake of their own. So practically any cove in hausen with a creek bed running to the back of it is what i am keyin in on. The areas that produced larger fish only did so on days where schooling fish were more active.. they would only stay up for 5 seconds at a time, but this boosted my confidence in the area and i grinded out the bigger fish much further away from the schooling fish. The only "schooling" bass i caught were in pirates... the terrain is much different but finding 30-40 ft channels with grass on both sides was key. I would put myself within casting distance of 17 ft grasslines where the schools were and catch a few here and there. Sometimes my boat would be in 30 ft and sometimes 20.. I could only get the schoolies to hit a two toned watermellon/white senko weightless. Tons and tons of 12 to 13" fish schooling there.
  3. New to the forum here. Appreciate all the info fellas. I belong to a saltwater forum kinda like this and it isnt even comparable!! Been working Indian mounds and Hausen mostly this summer, but will frequent Pendleton on theTexas side all the way to Six Mile. On the LA side i hang around Tennesse Bay all the way to Pirates Cove. Thankfully i have been doing pretty well on the Big Pond as of the last two weeks... sizing down to smaller baits on C rigs has helped tremendously. Trying to imitate the smaller shad that schooling bass are feeding on. July 11-12 my buddy I boated a total of 35 keepers. My biggest 5 on one outing went somewhere around 18lbs. Best imitation i have found so far is small jiggin spoon, flutter spoons, and a fry on C rig. July 19th-20 we ended up with 43 keepers between 4 of us staying at my camp. Again, sizing down was key. I tried to throw the book at em just to see if i could catch em on anything else... Nadda. Best advice i can give for summer fishing is to find coves with creek beds running into them. Pay close attention to the terrain surrounding you. Keying in on steeeeeep drop offs. Schoolies have been popping up periodically and somewhere there are a few good ones hanging around. As many have said, i find the grass to be sparse around 20 ft. Somedays i catch em up in the grass and some days i am working the edge all the way out to 38ft. I havent found a deep diving patter yet... mostly bc my spots I hit last year sprouted new grass growth. Gotta love this lake!!! Learning something new every minute... such serenity.
