  1. Had a pretty good day on Lake Olathe this weekend. I used to cliff jump there in high school but have never fished it. My buddy was fishing a little deeper cover with a big worm and I was pitching up shallow. We both caught some decent fish between 1.5-2.5#, mine all coming on a Texas rigged Havoc fatty craw. I threw just about every creature I had but thats the only one they wanted. Got off the water with Conorsixtakc yesterday and scratched that Bass Pro itch I've had for a while. Looking forward to Thursday dudes!
  2. Anyone decided on a lake for next Thursday night? Throwing Lone Star out as a suggestion. After reading the newest Lawrence District KDWP newsletter, Lonestar posted the highest figures in each size class as far as catch rate per hour. Douglas' #s were no surprise...and surprisingly Lake Shawnee was second to Lone Star for catch rate of bass exceeding 15 inches. I love fishing Lone Star, and definitely struck gold with that 5# a few weeks ago. Just throwing it out there!
  3. Glad to hear most of your gear was returned and the turd is in jail. Definitely one of my worst fears. Couldn't imagine having to start from scratch, nor would I have the financial means to.
  4. Definitely down for that. Conorsixtakc recently told me about Mondo and I've been meaning to get out there and spend some monies.
  5. Didn't get to fish much this weekend. Took my mother in law out on Clinton Friday afternoon, pretty much a dead sea right now. Have the itch to fish Lone Star so I'll be out after work today.
  6. Fun time tonight fellas! Good to meet some of you guys. Looking forward to the next.
  7. Sorry about that friend. Will remember that!
  8. Regarding the tourney on Thursday... Planning to come out, just couldn't find details on if there is a buy in, or if it's just for bragging rights. Pardon my ignorance or if I didn't look deep enough. Couldn't make it to the meet up but still want to come out Thursday!
  9. Hahaha. Yup. Anyway, I'm not sure if the subject of farm ponds here is taboo or not, but thought I'd check anyway. My good friend who is from Texas was asking me if I knew of any farm ponds that had some toads in it. He's big on pond fishing and would be cool to get him out to one. We are obviously very respectful of the property, so if anyone knows of a gem that would be worth checking out. Let me know.
  10. Man, Melvern was tough for us today. Real tough. That lake always has a learning curve for me because I simply don't fish it a lot. My very first trip I was so spoiled, but the last two times I've been out have been rough. I also took conorsixtakc both times...funny how that works... Anyway, caught a few dinks. And I mean dinks. By the sound of it today no one was really doing well. Forgot how busy that lake gets on the weekend during the summer. Still fun to get out that way and take a break from Clinton. If you guys are into it, I contribute to a local blog called Kansas Outdoorsman. I haven't written since last season, so this post is basically a year in review up to about two weeks ago. Have a read! http://kansasoutdoorsman.com/2014/08/02/brians-year-in-review-getting-caught-up/
  11. Melvern trip tomorrow morning with conorsixtakc. What's the good word? Have a real bad case of Smallie fever!
  12. New guy here and I blame my good pal and fishing buddy, conorsixtakc. I'm a dedicated Walleye guy by default coming from Wisconsin, but enjoy nothing more than tussling with Bronzebacks, and now Largemouth. I fish Clinton almost everyday living in Lawrence, always targeting Walleye & Wiper, but have caught both really nice Largies and Smallies. Last year and early this season I had some super good trips to Coffee County and Melvern. Love those Brownies. On Friday Clinton was a little too rough for me to want to deal with, so I took a buddy from TX out to Lone Star on a whim to see if I could get him on some fish. Took me a little to get used to finesse fishing again, but it didn't take long before I was having a blast. My personal best came right as the sun went down. Man that was fun. Here's a little GoPro vid I put together from that evening. Yes, I did get a little excited once I saw that toad jump, my apologies haha. Took the same buddy and conorsixtakc the following morning. Lots of dinks and the bite died by 11. Still a super fun little lake to get away to out here in Lawrence. Can't wait to try Perry soon. Lone Star PB: 5 lbs. 6 oz. - Texas rigged Havoc craw Included a few photos from Clinton this season (for street cred purposes) Squarebill on the dam - GoPro vid Jig and minnow during the Crappie spawn. Caught 2 Largemouth and 5 Smallies in the same week, all while Crappie fishing.
