  1. I was about 20 yards to the left of the boat launch toward the narrow end of the lake. I don't know how to tell where the deep water is. I started off with a texas rig but all I was doing was pulling weeds, so I switched to a wacky worm w/ a weedless hook. I had to put a 1/8 weight on it due to all the wind.
  2. Spent a couple hours at Lake Elkhorn last night. I FINALLY managed to get something out of there. I think I'm going to need a training course on how to fish. I got one bite at about 7:30. About 0.65 pounds caught on a weighted wacky worm. I changed locations about 4 times before I got the little guy. I'd post a pic, but I don't actually know how. I'll figure that out another time.
  3. What part of Elkhorn were you in? I've only fished from the floating dock with my kids. Been there 3 times and only ever got a half pounder with a wacky rig.
  4. Managed to get my second bass ever last night. Took my 7yo daughter down to Lake Elkhorn and let her fish from the floating dock. She brought in a couple bluegills. I managed to land a little smallmouth with a wacky rig. Got a nibble with a texas rig but yanked it out of his mouth. Zero bites with anything topwater. I've only been fishing for 2 weeks now and what I like is that it's enjoyable even when there's not much action. Maybe that'll change as I catch more fish. I have a question about the texas rig. I had a 2/0 hook with a small bullet weight. The weight was not tethered to the hook in any way; it could slide up and down the line. Am I supposed to be tying the weight on somehow so that it stays right by the hook?
  5. Hello folks. I'm from Columbia, MD and new to this forum. My fishing experience is as follows: I bought my first rod/reel a week ago from Bass Pro. I'm hoping to turn it into a hobby my whole family can enjoy. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions for you guys.
  6. Hello everyone, I live in Columbia, MD and just joined the forum and the sport. I haven't fished since I was about 12 and that was all bobbers and nightcrawlers. I have two little girls and would like to be able to take them fishing -- after I learn how myself. So far I've only been out a few times for bank fishing at Centennial Lake. I look forward to learning from the folks on this site and creating good memories for my kids.
