Best Rod For The Money?
SmallTownTexasAngler replied to SmallTownTexasAngler's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsI'd like to feel and handle the rod before I buy then but no store within a 3 hour drive of where I live carries Denali or *** products. So really I've narrowed it down to the all star, the ethos, daiwa aird and Procyon, the Sellus, and I've yet to find a Powell diesel in the store but I handled a Powell inferno at cabelas the other day and if the diesel is anywhere close I think I'll love it.

Best Rod For The Money?
Okay so I'm looking to buy a new rod, or several actually. But I'm gonna spread them out over the course of the next year or atleast 6 months. I am wanting to join a local bass club and I need some better rods. Right now all I have is an old FLW tour chrome 6' Medium rod paired with an Abu Garcia black max low profile. What I want to get is a flippin stick/frog rod, a topwater rod, a finesse rod, and a worm and jig rod, in that order. These are the particular rods I've looked at: Berkley Lightning Rod and the Shock model Shimano Sellus Technique-Specific rods Powell Diesel Daiwa Aird H2O Ethos All Star Classic Graphite Halo Starlite I wanna know what's the best quality and value for the money. Any other suggestions are also appreciated. I'm looking to spend $60 max for the rod itself.

SmallTownTexasAngler replied to SmallTownTexasAngler's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsThanks and I don't understand the hate on Quantum. If KVD trusts it why shouldn't we?

Quantum Reel?
I'm looking at the Quantum Team KVD burner baitcast reel. Pricing aside how does the reel perform overall compared to other high ratio reels in the sub $150 range?

Rod Selection: The Basics
What would a good rod be for flipping and punching? I'm looking to go as inexpensive as possible since I don't do tourneys or competitions. If it helps you give me a better answer, where i fish there is a lot, and I mean A LOT of submerged moss and sticks and other various vegetation. Thanks!

Pflueger Monarch?
SmallTownTexasAngler replied to SmallTownTexasAngler's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsI've never seen the mettle in store but I did notice the monarch has zero play in the spool as far as moving side to side. Can't say the same for some of the more expensive reels I've looked at.

"burner" Baitcast Reel For Froggin, Flipping, Pitching And Punching
SmallTownTexasAngler replied to SmallTownTexasAngler's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsWhat about the Lews LZR? And I felt of a Pflueger Supreme XT the other day and it felt really good in my hand

Pflueger Monarch?
Has anyone here ever used a pflueger monarch? I'm looking for a baitcasting reel to put on a rod my step dad gave me and I saw this one as walmart. It's $40 with a 6.2:1 gear ratio I think. I'm not interested in putting an expensive reel on it so don't waste your time trying to tell me that I need to spend atleast $100-$150. Thanks.

"burner" Baitcast Reel For Froggin, Flipping, Pitching And Punching
Okay I'm looking for a good high gear ratio baitcasting reel. I'm not interested in spending a lot on one since I'm a hobbyist angler, so I've set my budget at $100 for a brand new reel. I've been looking at the Abu Pro Max, Lew's Laser MG Speed Spool, and the Wright and McGill Skeet Reese Victory since it's currently on sale at Gander Mountain for $70. Any ideas, opinions, or comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

Bank Spinning Rod
If you haven't gotten the rod yet I looked at a Shimano Sellus 6'8" medium extra fast spinning rod that would be perfect for wacky worming and finesse fishing IMO. Great $50 price tag too

First Baitcasting Rod And Reel
SmallTownTexasAngler replied to SmallTownTexasAngler's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsYeah I felt a Sellus 7'2" MH today at Cabela's and it was pretty stiff. I think I'm gonna opt for the 6'10" M-XF but I still need a reel...

Abu Garcia Blue Max Opinions?
Okay I was at academy today and saw an Abu Garcia blue max 6'6" medium heavy baitcast combo. Is it worth the $70 price tag?

First Baitcasting Rod And Reel
SmallTownTexasAngler replied to SmallTownTexasAngler's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsI really would like some feed back on the Abu Garcia Silver Max or the Hank Parker edition. I'm looking at those because I want the ability to flip/pitch in light cover since it will be a while before I buy a rod just for flipping and pitching. And also any other ideas on other reels with the flippin switch feature would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

First Baitcasting Rod And Reel
SmallTownTexasAngler replied to SmallTownTexasAngler's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsI think I'm gonna get the Sellus 7'2". I actually can get the new daiwa megaforce with the twitchin bar for like $50 new and I think it has a 7.0:1 ratio. That would put me at $110 giving me enough budget to spool it with 15 lb fluorocarbon. Or powerpro braid

First Baitcasting Rod And Reel
SmallTownTexasAngler replied to SmallTownTexasAngler's topic in Fishing Rods, Reels, Line, and KnotsYeah I like that Zeles I just wish it had more bearings. I don't need a $150, $200, $250 combo and have absolutely no desire to spend over $150 as I just don't get the opportunity to go fishing enough to justify paying that much for a new rod and reel. What I was gonna just get either a 7'2" MH Shimano Sellus or a 7'6" MH Powell Diesel and pair it with either a Daiwa Laguna or Abu Garcia Silver Max.

First Baitcasting Rod And Reel
Okay I'm wanting to get a baitcasting setup for bass. I don't know a lot about fishing and how to choose the right rod and reel combo and I need some help. However I'm trying to start college so I have a really tight budget. Can one of the more experience anglers in this forum please help me find a good solid baitcasting combo for under $120? Any and all ideas are appreciated, thanks.
