  1. Okay I'm looking for some good quality reels for under $150. I'm wanting to get into tourney fishing so I need something that will hold its own when I need it to. I have a Daiwa Tatula Tactical in 8.1:1 spooled with the old school spiderwire stealth 50# green braid and absolutely love it, just wish the drag was a little stouter. I will however be putting it on my C&T-Rig and Jig rod once I get my frogging and flipping setups ironed out. I was looking at getting the *** *** 8.1:1 for $120 from TW but can usually find the *** 8.1, and Concept C 8.1 on eBay new for $155 ish. Brand doesn't matter a whole lot just as long as it will haul in the fish plus the salad bar that usually comes with it when flipping and frogging mats.
  2. Okay so I'm looking to deepen my arsenal quite a bit. As of right now I am looking for a flipping stick, and treble hook rod for jerkbaits, topwaters, small cranks, etc. I am also needing to get a finesse spinning setup since my current one is a $15 Walmart combo I got from project prom 3 years ago. Looking to stay as close to $100 as possible per rod but wouldn't mind spending an extra $30 or so. My current rods are a Powell Inferno Frog and Toad 7'2" Mag H-F, a Mojo Bass 7' MH-F spinnerbaits rod, and a Kistler Magnesium TS 6'9" MH-XF that I've been throwing jigs and small swimbaits and reaction baits on. I do mostly bank fishing so I would prefer a 7'6" flip/punch rod. I have been looking at the Dobyns Fury, Castaway Taranis CX1 as well as the Duckett Ghost and the rest of the Inferno rods since Powell dropped the price by $20. Any info, opinions or suggestions are appreciated thanks.
  3. Okay I'll go look. Also, does anyone know if having my reels hydro-dipped would cause internal problems? I'm trying to get on my college fishing team and if I make it I'd like to have custom painted reels.
  4. Does anyone know where I could get one of the 100mm overswept handles for the Daiwa Tatula reels? It comes standard on the Tatula Tactical but I want one on my Tatula HD200. Where do I get one?
  5. OKay I am looking at either the Shimano Compre or the Powell Inferno and I wanna know which one of those lines of rods is more sensitive while retaining a lot of backbone?
  6. Okay so I am deadser on getting a Dobyns, but for my finesse spinning rig should i get the medium or medium light power? My choices in length are 7' if I get the Fury, and 6'9" or 7' if I get the Savvy Micro Guide.
  7. Okay I am looking at a Powell Max 765SBR MH-F (not the new 3D, the old one) and I was wondering how it would do on the following techniques: Hollow body frogs and toads, flipping, pitching, punching, and paddletails up to 5" with 3/8 oz weighted swimbait hooks
  8. Has anyone tried the Sunline Defier line?
  9. Okay so I am looking to stay as simple as possible by running Co-Poly line on all my rigs except for a couple i will be running straight braid on. So my question is, what is the best CoPolymer line in terms of sensitivity, memory, shock absorption, and castability? *Note: I will be running 12# test on everything with possible 50# power pro super slick backing in case i need one rod to perform multiple duties at any given time.
  10. Suggestions on power, action, length, etc. for pop-r, heddon torpedo, chug bugs, and other topwater hard baits?
  11. I need some SERIOUS sensitve rods for my new setup as I am wanting to get into tourney fishing as a co-angler (no boat yet). I have a Mojo Bass and a Falcon Jason Christie and the Falcon feels like the handle is wrapped in some thick foam as far as sensitivity goes. The Mojo is WAAAAYYYY more sensitive. So should i get more Mojos or should i get something else? Looking for about 5 more rods, 4 casting and 1 spinning. the 4 casting rods will be used for flipping/punching, topwaters/jerkbaits/fukes, crankbaits all depths, and texas/cal rigs/jigs/swimbaits. As for the spinning rod I am looking at a Shimano Compre 6'8" Medium Extra Fast but am not sure how sensitve it is.
  12. Looking for a dedicated Flipping/ Punching rod that i can also launch those new Keitech toads into the next county with. These are the rods I am looking at right now: Denali J2 7'11" Extra Heavy Fast iRod Genesis II Bub's Punch Rod 7'11" Heavy Moderate Fast Phenix Maxim 7'11" Heavy Extra Fast Daiwa Tatula XT 8' Heavy Fast Anyone have any experience with any of these? Or any other suggestions? Thanks!
  13. I would suggest either a Dobyns Fury 7'3" Mag Heavy/Extra Fast or an iRod Fred's Magic Stick 7'5" Heavy/Fast. Both are $110 at TW.
  14. I actually went to Cabela's yesterday and picked up a St. Croix Mojo Bass 7' Medium Heavy-Fast for $83 on sale. That'll be my frog rod for now since it I needed a Texas Rig/Jig rod as well. And I have a Daiwa Tatula Tactical 8.1:1 in the mail to put on it with 65# Power Pro
  15. http://www.***.com/Daiwa_Tatula_Tactical_Casting_Reels/descpage-DTT.html It does have the MagForce Z
  16. Only reason I am looking for a heavy is because one, there is a bunch of absolute HAWGS where I am gonna be fishing at, and two, those HAWGS are hiding in some pretty heavy matted salad.
  17. I actually just bought the Tatula Tactical 8.1 off of TW for $142 something after tax. Only because its a Tatula and it came with a bunch of free stuff. I almost got one of the DX rods for frogs and flippin but i cant recieve it in my P.O. box so i had to miss out on that deal.
  18. Okay guys which one is better, the Daiwai Tatula Type R 8.1:1 or the Daiwa Tatula Tactical 8.1:1? I need to know this ASAP! Thank You!!! *Note: These reels, whichever I decide on, will be used for fishing frogs as well as flippping, pitching, punching, etc.
  19. I actually think I am going to get the 13 *** 8.1:1 since TW has it at $150 for the labor day sale that just started
  20. OKay guys I am wanting a new frog rod! I can't order one because of my mailbox situation, so I need one I can pick up in-store. I have been looking at a few different rods at Cabela's including their store brand Tournament ZX 7'3" Frog, the Abu Vendetta 7'6" Heavy Fast, the Fenwick HMX 7'6" Heavy Fast, and the Falcon BuCoo 7' Heavy Fast. Which of these is better and what other suggestions do you have for me? They need to be able to handle the smaller frogs like the Spro Bronzeye Jr. and Booyah Baby Pad Crasher as well as also needing to be able to handle the Ribbett style soft body frogs as far as castability goes. Thank you!
  21. Yeah I'm gonna be using 18 or 20# Sunline FC Flippin for my flip/pitch/punch rig, Probably 50# power pro for my frog rod, 50# power pro with a FC or mono leader for my topwater/shallow crank rod, and then 8# fc on my finesse spinning rig
  22. The drag isn't a requirement but i need as much as i can since the places i fish are full to the brim with moss and veggies.
  23. I am looking for a burner baitcast reel. Well, actually I'm looking for two. I'm looking for anything that's good quality with an IPT of around 30-35 with +12# of drag. And I'm looking for reels that can be had new for as close as possible to $200-250. Thanks!
  24. no im looking at $250 per rod setup. Also has anyone used the new quantum smoke speed freak bc reel yet? And i was looking at using either all Jason Christie rods, or going with omens or duckett ghosts for the rest of my rods with the exception of the frog rod which i was looking at a Dobyns Fury 7'3" Mag.
  25. Okay so I'm wanting to get more into bass fishing, such as tourneys and competitions, and I need to upgrade my rod setups. First things first, right now I have a Falcon Jason Christie 7'3" Heavy Jig/Pitchin Rod but am looking for a new reel to put on it that would be good for jigs, flipping, pitcing, and punching. I want a reel with a high ratio, 7.1:1 and up, and preferably a heavy, stout drag. Secondly, I am also looking to get a topwater/shallow or lipless crank setup, a frog setup, and finesse spinning rig. I really want some suggestions that can be had for sub $250 since I'm in college. Thank You!
