Had A Big Hit Today! Lost The Fish Though...
Something took my jig and hauled tail. I set the hook, and WOW. Felt like I was pulling a horse! Whatever it was was big, and I knew it. It ran into some thick cover, pulling drag with it the whole way. I turned down the drag a little then nothing, he spit it out. I inspected my jig and the hook was bent out a good 45 degrees from original. What could have done this? A bass? A turtle? Maybe a carp?

Fishing Off The Front Of The Boat
I went fishing at a very small lake a few weeks ago with a new friend who had a boat. We mainly threw frogs. I was in the back and caught 7 fish, 3 of which were good sized. He only caught 2 small ones!

General Fishing Trip Tips, Not Tactics Or Techniques.
One of my buddies just told me a good one. Always be extra cautious with your rods. The never tend to break when your using them, but the minute that get caught on a door frame they snap like a piece of chalk.

Braid To Mono Leader Questions.
Awesome, I shall just stick with my braid. When you guys say throw into cover/grass, how do you fish it in grass? Using the same twitch twitch pause? I was under the impression jigs where mainly for rocky bottoms.

Braid To Mono Leader Questions.
You don't think the fish will get spooked by the braid line at all? And the only reason I'm using 20# is because I don't throw into a lot of cover.

Braid To Mono Leader Questions.
I currently have 20# braid on my broadcasting setup. I want to start flipping a jig with it, but I need to use a leader. Will I be good using my 8# mono? And how long should the leader be? Below the rod when extended for flipping and pitching?

Help With Water Clarity
I am a bank fisherman and I am guilty of believing that the pond I fish at has nice clear water. When in reality, I might have 3 feet of visibility from the bank down into some large rocks. I recently found another pond even closer to my house that has at least 6 feet visibility. I do not have any polarized lenses yet, and I soon hope to change that. I literally started jig fishing yesterday, and have yet to catch one. I went in the 6 foot visibility lake and used a nice brown and orange jig with natural craw trailer. My question is, should I use lures more geared for murky water or clear water? Also, how can I become a better judge on how clear/murky water truly is.

The hooks on a safety pin is very clever! And fire starters are great to have nearby.

General Fishing Trip Tips, Not Tactics Or Techniques.
I'm hoping to start an ongoing thread concerning fishing trip tips. Like things to bring with that most people might not think of. I know a lot of people have their own little methods of doing things that could help other fishermen out there. For example, I saw in one video where the fisherman took the line coming from his spinning reel and wrapped it around the rod a couple times to prevent his rods from getting tangled up. Things of that nature. How to store lures, what to bring with you, pre-trip checklists, things to look out for. All tips not related to tactics on the water.

How To Survey A Pond, Snorkel?
I have a wonderful pond that I fish rather regularly. It's a good pond, but I have no idea what the bottom looks like. I have been trying to get a feel for it with lures and whatnot, but it's too difficult to truly tell. One thing I have been thinking about is getting a snorkel and some goggles and going diving. The thing is, I have seen (a few times) a huge alligator snapping turtle. The shell from front to back is probably 2 feet. Also, there are at least 2 massive Gar in this thing that like to swirl the surface, lookin like Megalodon! Any thoughts?

Pottawatomie State lake No. 1 Went fishing there the morning of 16AUG2014. Weather was great, slight breeze and overcast skies. Caught 7 total fish in about 4 hours all on a topwater frog pulling it in from the bank. 3 of them were good sized.

Tips For New Jig Fisherman.
That's a good fish! Skirt or no skirt on the jig? The reason I'm asking is because I'm going to probably end up getting a couple strike king jigs from the local sporting good store.
