  1. Wipe dirty areas clean w/a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol (it dries fast). Then lubricate the handle knobs, worm gear, levelwind, and drag star. You can flush the bearings if you like, but I find moisture to be more of a problem than a help. This is how my dad and I serviced all are reels, and I am still using a Shimano Bantum Magnumlite that was serviced this way for 30 years.
  2. Alright, I'll take the Cherrywood out as part of my jerkbait setup and see how I like it! Thanks guys!
  3. It's a medium action , and has a good bit of tip action to it. My dad uses his as a crankbait rod, its got some good give to it. Looks like I will give it a try and see if I like the composite!
  4. If I had to choose between a Graphite Rod and a Composite Rod For Jerkbait Fishing which one would you use? They are both 6'6" Medium Rods, and I'm assuming that the Graphite would be more sensitive than Composite, right? But do I want more or less sensitive? For specifics it's between a 6'6" Medium Berkley Lightning Rod (Graphite) and a Medium Berkley Cherrywood HD (Composite). They both have the same style of guides. I know they aren't your expensive Loomis Rods, but they are what I have to work with. Thanks, Jakob
  5. My dad and uncle used to fish the lakes at Unicersity of North Florida when my dad was going to college there. They had some pretty good lakes back in the day.
  6. St Croix are my choice in that price range.
  7. So I can't exactly afford a Jackson.. Sigh... I'd like to have one, but I don't have the means to drop 1,200 bucks on a yak. So I've heard good things about the Ascend, and even after hearing the bad about them I think I can deal. I can seal the leaky areas myself w/silicone, and I can make a nonslip casting deck w/some paint and sand. My question is should I go w/ the FS12T or the FS128T? I'm familiar q/general differences but wanted to ask here. My worries at home are storage, loading it onto my FJ Cruiser, and weight. On the water my worries are stablility, standability, and having enough room for my gear. Does anybody have experience w/these kayaks?
  8. Indiana also has a 3 hook reg. I would recommend using blades most of the time. I don't cat has much w/out them IMO
  9. Here is what I know about the A-Rig. First, you don't always have to use the same color. White bass in particular like different colors of baits. As for bass, I would fish w/all of the same bait (shad colors) to mimick a small school of bait. As for dummy baits, put those on the top, and hooked baits on the bottom because bass will attack the rig from beneath it, similar to a shark
  10. Casting. As for power, go w/the lightest one you think you can set the hook with. The lighter rod will not tire you out as much. I throw spinnerbaits on a ST Croix MH Triumph because I traded an old Shimano Fightin' Rod for it.
  11. How much is shipping cost from Siebert Outdoors?
  12. That is a really great price on those weights!! Have you had a successful order from there before?
  13. Maybe the fish in your area are more lethargic? Are you getting bit on the prop bait when you are pausing it? It could also be a profile thing..
  14. Need to pick up some gear. What are your favorite baits for these categories? 1)Football Jigs 2)Deep Diving Crankbaits 3)Bladed Swim Jigs 4)Drop Shot Rigs and Baits 5)Shakey Head Jigs (Or Jointed Head Jigs) 6)Texas Rigs For Big Worms FYI.. I would like to go for tungsten weights, and would like to save pennies if I can. Thanks, Jakob
  15. I'm not a fan of white fishing rod blanks. I got one free from a buddy one time and my dad's response was "Who makes a white fishing rod?" Guess I just take after him when it comes to fishing tackle. Ie.. Cork handles, mono for everything but flipping and plastic fishing, and buying inexpensive baits. All of which works just fine IMO.. But I guess I never really gave the others a try, so it is slightly biased...
  16. So, I've always fished from the bank for the most part, and even when I would go w/friends on a boat, I never really paid a whole lot of attention to the electronics... I now see I probably should've paid more attention, as I am now in the market for either a kayak, or used boat if I can find one that is affordable. So what do I need to know about electronics? Do I need them? What should I look at for an affordable unit? What are some other tips you can give to someone w/no experience?
  17. When are you guys fishing Buzz Baits? I find a black buzz to be one of the best nightime baits there is! I would say I don't really have trouble catching fish on any baits... the only thing I would say I struggle catching fish w/are unscented plastics (Zoom, Havoc) So I spray them w/scent or don't buy them. I do fine w/scented plastics though.
  18. Your better off going with smaller size treble hooks. These hooks will make it much more snag resistant than either the original hooks or single hooks. The smaller trebles will hug the body of the bait, and are much less prone to digging into cover.
  19. I enjoy using the rage tail menace grub. I'm also a fan of the beaver style bait. My favorite beavers are the Sweet Beaver by Reaction Innovations and the Strike King Rodent.
  20. Stick worms have done it for me as well. Small jigs also do a good job of mimicking the natural forage (crayfish). Most of your presentations are going to be a lot subtler than they would in a larger body of water. With so little water fish are much more aware of everything around them. How much pressure does the creek you are fishing get?
  21. Try fishing them in stained water and days w/less sun penetration. Also a good idea to base colors on conditions along w/forage. Most of my spinnerbait fish come on baits w/a single colorado or turtle blades
  22. At that point I'd just up the weight of the lure. Some may say, this makes the bait larger, but if you really want a smaller bait, go w/ Savage Fear Finesse Lures, they are smaller than other baits at the same weight class. Terminator spinnerbaits also have smaller heads than other baits of the same weight. I don't see the reason to add weight. If I really want to fish smaller, I'll fish spinning tackle, but I can throw light lures just fine on my casting gear.. I have baitcasters all setup w/dual braking, and set right I can throw lures if any weight quuite far.
  23. As fr a rod, depends on what you like, but Berkley Lightning Rod are $40 at regular price, and if you find a deal I'm sure they can be had for less. Bought 2 of them on sale for $40.. Pretty good deal in my opinion.
  24. Lew's Tournament MG is $99 buckas after a Gander MT. Rebate. Add the Lew's Rebate and it is $69. Add the $20 off at Gander Mt's. Website and its $49. Best deal I have seen on a casting reel in a while. I buy most reels used or on sale.
