  1. Is this true for flipping laydowns, grass mats, and other vegetation? I see that people usually just hit the line w/a sharpie and do just fine... Also, what about when it comes to frogs? I do the same thing their too... Obviously you can't use Fluoro, and mono just has way to much stretch!
  2. I heard it was 25% this year, but don't quote me on that. I will be doing most of my bait shopping this year after Christmas, as I am hoping to get a giftcard or a a few lures as stocking stuffers. For now I just look and sigh, trying to pass the winter blues...
  3. Reminds me that i need to keep a fishing log of all of my catches next year so I can figure out my average bass, my best baits and spots as well. You guys that do keep logs, how do you keep them?
  4. If you are going for casting in open water I would always fish a football head. Good for both dragging and stroking off the bottom
  5. Used Lew's Tournament w/ a used St Croix Triumph. Good Spinnerbait setup. Has enough back bone to drive a hook home, while being light enough to fish w/ all day and be very sensitive.
  6. Creme or Manns
  7. That is a good question. I'm pretty sure that they mostly spawn on small coves and off points on the west side of the lake. They then continue to migrate back and forth as conditions change.
  8. This can be true, but they will often stack up on points or pieces of cover. Always make a cast to a spot where you caught a fish. His buddy could be hanging out right there
  9. My guess is its Bait or the position of the sun, as it is ever changing.
  10. I fish a small local reservoir (10 acres),on foot when I'm not using the yak. It's small so I usually fish tue whole thing, but find that patterns seem to stack up on one side of the reservoir at different times. Could someone key me in on why this might be, so I can apply it on other small lakes?
  11. Learning a lot here for sure. But nothing is a substitute for time on the water. We here it a million times, but you can read, watch all the videos you want, but the guy with a rod in his Han the most will be the best outdoorsman. Learn through expirementation and hey in on the subtle nuances of the specific area you fish.
  12. I tried some different brands of line this year and ended up going back to Berkley. It's good linne for the cost IMO.
  13. Snowing here as well! Hopefully will get some fishing/football in over the weekend. Have a nice holiday!
  14. It's definitely a good deal. I'm not much of a fan of the frame of the reel though. I like the new frames better.
  15. That is the same around my area.
  16. I don't mind Academy. They are not too bad compared to DSG. I can't stand DSG, as has been seen in previous post. But I still prefer to shop at small local shops because I like to support them, but also, I usually am able to find a hidden gem/deal. A lot if the local guys can negotiate on certain things to. The guys at Westside Bait & Tackle, Tackle Service Center, and Wildcat Creek Outfitters are pretty good guys. They e treated me well, done me right, so I continue to go back to them when I need something.not of fan of Big Box, like Tackle Warehouse and the like.
  17. If you are on a northern cottage country lake w/both your smallmouth will sometimes be roaming around, you can find them w/a topwater, and then if the boil your bait, slow it down w/a tube where he missed your bait. If they're are laydowns near the bank target those w/ stick worms for largemouth. When it comes to big differences, what was said above is spot on. Also, smallmouth have a reputation for being very fussy at times.
  18. Not really versed in rods around the $300 mark. I usually spend a lot less, but that's just me. If I was going to buy an expensive rod it would be a Loomis or a Dobyns. The Pinnacle Perfecta worm and Jig Rod looks mighty interesting as well.
  19. I'm not big on keeping fish, just because I don't like to eat fish. But as stated above the smallest fish will taste better. That is why many people are fans of eating pnafish. You don't get that much meat off of a crappie, but they for some reason taste better smaller. Also, taking smaller fish and releasing big fish allows the fishery to thrive for every one. I talked about this in an earlier thread on 'Selective Harvest'. But there is nothing better than a tried and true shore lunch! I don't care to eat fish at home, but when I am camping and yak fishing in the spring w/friends, they just taste their best.
  20. I don't know a whole lot about boats, but could you upload some pics? I bet its a beauty!
  21. Asking the same question myself. For $10 it can't hurt, but I already have 5/7 DVDs w/all of the videos on them. It's definitely worth $10. I thought the DVDs had some good info.
  22. PproMax- Flipping Baits Silver Max- Spinnerbaits and Swim Jigs Megaforce- Football jigs and Texas rigs Quantum-Crankbaits Cardinal-Finesse baits or anything you can't throw w/a casting combo. Try moving around reels to different rods and play w/what works for you
  23. When the skies are clear and not overcast I generally use a swim jig over the spinnerbait. Also, when fishing extremely heavy grass I will put a swim jig on my flipping setup and swim it through grass and other heavy wood cover. I like to throw a swim jig, especially a bladed one in the summer when the bass start to key in on bluegill as well.
