Question on line choice for new Avid
I would recommend a new 7.2 alphas sv for your medium avid. I have a 7 and a 66 medium avid and this small reel is perfect. You could run 12 lb yhb on this for jigs and have no isues and strong knots with good handeling.

Tell me all about the Luck-E-Strike Rick Clunn STX Jerkbait
Tested my baits again today at 60 degrees on 10 lb yhb and the suspend just fine. Watched it for a full 30 seconds before I got boored. Fishing partner verified

Secondary lure action
I watch there stuff all the time and if you check the comments i am all over them. I think him and tim put out the best fishing video's. My question did spur from one of their video's and was looking for more discussion relating to that.

baitcaster/spin reel questions?
I have never used the reel in question but the important stance is count does not matter as much as good engineering. A cheap bait caster can be very frustrating and adding a hard to handle line like flouro will only make matters worse. I would get any of the good copoly lines to learn on like suffix seige, p-line cx or YHB in 12lb test. Put the brake on all the way with the spool tension set to stop when the weight hits the ground. Slowly back down as your skills improve. Your inital distance will suck but that is way better than trashing an entire spool of line and trying to deal with that on the water. I would guess that your budget is low, so i would recommend a BPS PQ reel or a used daiwa advantage. The advantage is the reel i learned on and i still use it along with my steez reels

No leader with braid
I was a strait flouro person for a while and in WA state i did not get many bites if i was using above 6lb test. I had battles with many 3,4,5 lb fish in 6lb line in pads and under docks. I used to hit them hard and reel like mad to move them to me before the battle heated up. I never broke off but i put my line to the limit. Now that i live in TN the need to use leaders or flouro for that matter seems a lot less. I hate dealing with knots and flouro so now i use YHB for leader material and am a lot happier. I will continue to test to see if i need it but certain lures dont work well for me on strait braid. Spinner baits and buzz baits dont cast very well without some type of leader. And i also use the Alberto which i can tie on the boat but try and plan ahead and tie before i hit the water

Secondary lure action
In my two examples they are not part of the lure. I can fish a small paddle tail on a weighted hook or I can put it on the back of a swim jig. Putting it on the back of a jig means that you have two actions. Some jerkbaits come with a feathered treble and some people add them to ones that don't come that way. Other factors can play in changing the balance and primary action by adding something else "jerkbait" comes to mind but others do this to crankbaits also. There is a change and that change if you call it secondary action or modification does change the presentation.

Should I use backing on my spinning reel
I don't use backing and if the spool is not made to handle braid I use the blue painters tape that comes off without leaving behind a lot of glue and sticky crap. No slip issues doing it this way!!!

Secondary lure action
I am very curious about the effect and importance of secondary action on a lures ability to catch fish. When is secondary action more important, or does it even play a role in getting bites. There are two examples that best fit what I am trying to figure out, one is a feathered treble on a bait, and the second is the skirt on a swim jig. There are lots of other lures that this applies to, but how important is the secondary action and is it more of a summer time thing when fish want more action or is it valuable all the time???

Should Pedal drive kayaks be allowed?
At this point the only need to devide is into people power and all others. If you are the drive unit then I don't care how you do it. Using a battery and or any type of stored energy is not even close to the same. You have the option of what type of power you provide paddle vise peddle and the cost is a factor but those wanting to compete will spend what it takes. Don't see any johnboats at the bass master classic...

Tell me all about the Luck-E-Strike Rick Clunn STX Jerkbait
Are you doing this in a bath tub or on a lake. Very slow sink or rise is very hard to tell and mine might be changing ever so slightly. I am running them on 10 LB YHB on stock hooks and an owner clip. Not enough depth rate to bother me. I have made one sink on purpose by putting standard wire on all three hooks and it does sink at a very noticeable rate.

Let's talk punch skirts
I get all my stuff from serbert so i dont know how the others are.

did you put the stock split rings back on. The bait is neutral with very light hooks so any increase will make it sink. My first step would be to take off the nose split ring. I use the owner welded snap and it is supper lite.

Annual Line Stretch Test (Updated 2016)
I think work like what you did helps out the hobby a lot and people will always want more or have something to say about how you did your test. If your satisfied with your results then dam it good on you. I feel like people willing to put in the time and effort to test something out deserve a thumbs up. Not many willing to put in the time and more often than not now a days there are some serious keyboard warriors!!!!

Annual Line Stretch Test (Updated 2016)
I was thinking of something along this line but much less complicated. All the numbers generated can be back calculated and related to actual dia. A data set alone that shows actual dia vs claimed is important. I look for line by the metric number as it seems to reflect a much more accurate system due to the smaller units being used. If they added another digit to the american standard it would be much better.

Let's talk punch skirts
i do and i feel as though you can change color a lot cheaper and easier than a jig. In the thickest of stuff i dont even use a punch skirt so maybe i am a little different. I play with them the same as spider grubs until i get the combination i want.

Replace trebles with owner inline hooks
There might be some times that this is a good idea, or that it may be required in certain areas. The one bait I would never do this to is a jerkbait. The thin round bend trebles are critical to its operation and the fact that a lot of fish just slap at the lure. The weight is critical and changing the balance of the lure is bad. I could see changing out a rattle trap to keep from hanging up so much but some people use that as part of the action. Crank it into the weeds and then rip it out. If it were the perfect idea people would be doing it!!!

Should I use backing on my spinning reel
if you put on the braid and then add the backing to get the level correct then take it off to reverse you will get the perfect amount.

KVD cranks and jerkbaits
The smaller bait makers could do this no problem as they do not normally sell to your average walmart individual. I don't think the big brands will ever do this.

Avid x spinning rod with leaders?
The easiest way to measure small holes is with a drill index. I find the drill bit that fits the best and your done. I do use the back of the bit as to not damage the guide.

I love the bait and i have spent a lot of time tuning my to do what i want. I put one of the owner hyperwire split rings on the nose to give me a slight down angle on the bait. I prefer this as it makes it go a little deeper. I also use the Daiichi Death Trap Round Treble as a hook replacement. They seem to be about the same weight and are a quality hook. I dont try and grind a jerkbait fish back to the boat and the light wire hooks work really well. I have spares in the boat as all light wires will bend and i use the split rings on the hooks to tune the bait for weight.

Best Line For Trout?
I used my dropshot rod for trout a bunch in Washington state for the last three years. P-line 100% and sniper in 6lb test worked great. I also used Berkeley xl in 6lb and that was good to.

Crankbait Line
This!!! I am getting away from flouro due to moving away from the gin clear water in WA. There is a time and place for flouro and i have been there. To many people boy into the hype!!!!
