  1. Actually Russ, I never made it there. I was having so much success where I was that I didn't move too far away. I'm planning on heading up the river in a day or two and trying the lures out up there, so I'll be sure to let you know the type of location any fish come in at.
  2. Some awesome plates there. Hooker you're from Rhode Island? A fellow New Englander!
  3. I have the worst of it when it comes to fishing a jig. I just do something wrong with it, because people sing the praises of the jig, pros say how if they had one lure it'd be a jig, and I cannot catch a fish on one. Finally, I pitched the thing under this dock, and as it's goin down, *WHAM* fish nails it, the darn thing jumps out of the water, shakes his head, and throws the jig back at me. Man, I still wanna catch fish with that thing!
  4. I know exactly that type of weedy water. I had extremely good success with a weightless senko texas rigged. When those puppies show up in the mail, I think you should break em in!
  5. Well I have nothing but good news. The advice you guys gave me was killer. I went out with 3 poles, one spinnerbait, one c-rigged lizard with about a 2 foot leader, and a weightless t-rigged senko. I immediately went to where the pond empties over the dam, and threw out the lizard. First cast before it hit the bottom, fish on! It was actually a rainbow trout, but still fun. By the end of the day I'd caught 2 other trout and 4 bass. 2 bass were on the senko and the rest on the lizard along the bottom. One of the best days on the pond to my memory, thanks a ton! ;D
  6. I'm gonna give it all a go and let you guys know how it went, thanks a lot
  7. Ah yes, well I've been using quite a variety. I've been fishing this pond many years and had the most success with a 3" blue floating rapala minnow. For whatever reason, that's the lure in this pond. But I've also caught fish with everything from jitterbugs to spoons. Lately it's been mostly plastics, 4" worms and lizards, a jig, banjo minnows, and spinnerbaits. Now I do know there are bass in here or at least there have been, because I have caught bass. It's just rather infrequent. If you hook a fish here, it's usually a pickrel or a perch.
  8. I feel like I have to choose which one of my kids I like better right now, lol. I love fishing with worms and I love both these rigs. I'd say I have had more success with the texas rig, but this is mostly because I've fished more with it. When I fish the wacky rig, I tell ya those bass seem to love it, and there's just something a lot of fun about catching a bass with a wacky rigged worm. Sorta gives me the feeling I get catching a fish on a jig, I just love it for whatever reason. I really feel like both rigs are great and work quite well, and which one I decide to fish just depends on my mood and how the fish are reacting.
  9. I like to bend to hook in the exact center. It's just how I did it to start, and the bass seem to like it fine, so why fix what's not broken right?
  10. All right guys I know this may be tough online, but I'm gonna give it a shot. I'm trying to find the bass in my pond. I'm up in Northeast Connecticut, and the pond I fish at most often is an area roughly 15 to 20 football fields of space. The bottom of this pond is FULL of muck. Anywhere you go, it's all weeds that are long, feathery, and limp. These things just crowd the bottom. On top of this, most of this entire area is no more than 2 ft down to these weeds, honestly closer to 1ft or less much of the time. There are some spots where it gets deeper, but never more than about 7-8 feet. On one end of this pond there is a dam (creating the pond) and the other side is fed by a river you can travel up a long ways, several hours in fact. As you go upstream there are no more pond-like areas, it's all river all the way, but it does get deeper. I generally just stay in the initial open area to do my fishing, and that was the space I'm most interested in trying to find bass. The edges of the pond are generally tree covered, and there are trees in the water, all these places you'd think fish would be hiding. But I'll throw baits in there to no avail. I know I probably haven't given you all the information you need to answer my question, but I'm not sure what else to tell without just writing pointlessly, so if you need any extra info, let me know, I'll post it. Thanks a ton
  11. I think that sounds really good. I'm gonna try that. Now that you mentioned it, I do remember feeling as though I was a little too fast. Thanks a lot.
  12. Hey guys, I think I have a problem here and I'm hoping for some help. I was out the other day fishing a weightless lizard and weightless worm both texas rigged. Here's my problem, I was using chartruese and the fish were loving it, but I'd see my lizard/worm disappear and I'd set that hook. When I do hook set, it's pretty serious, a lot of my friends joke I'm gonna pull the fish into the boat right there. I'd estimate upwards of 35% of my sets were not sticking, the lure would pull right out of the fish's mouth, and when I brought the lure in, the hook was out of the lure so I believe my rig was set up correctly. Now I'm brand new to fishing with plastics, and I don't know if this is normal, but it sure doesn't feel it. I mean, over 1/3 is a lot of times to pull that lure fully out of that fish's mouth. If this is any help, my hook sets are generally lower the rod down then jerk straight up. When this was happening I did try some sideways sets, but to basically the same % of misses. Thanks for whatever advice you could give me.
