  1. That true. New England hawgs are 5-6 lbs. Southern toads are in the range of 10+.
  2. One of my lakes is a 'trophy management' lake. It allows a creel limit of 5 bass in any combination of 12"< and over >22". The only problem is that not enough people keep what they catch. In the end, I average 3/4-1 lb bass per catch.
  3. Sounds like the live bait would get tangled and put itself on a chokehold.
  4. Spooling up some line as I type.
  5. Well then, I guess the art is in the flaw for the angler to catch.
  6. Yeah, I've seen that on the salt water fly fishing segments. That's like scratching a chalkboard. Haha.
  7. Jolly, nothing wrong with setting the hook. He just left it on the entire time. It'll kill the pinion gear that winds the idler cog which in turn winds the levelwind worm shaft. The only thing worse is if he left the clicker engaged when casting.
  8. I'll tell you one thing, if you were to get the orra2 sx, many of the internals can be swapped with the gen 3revo series: s, sx, stx, and premier (pretty much any of the models with the 27mm width spools). I can tell you that I serviced my friends orra2 sx, and am able to confirm that my Premier spool (you'd need to get the pinion shaft too) and sideplate fit (it'll fit the same size bearing housings as well). Shoot, you might even be able to fit an mgx or mgxtreme gear set into it. Anyways, to make a long story short, the orra2 sx isn't a bad start. There's potential in making that into a rocket-powered, shelf queen if you wanted too. I can get into way more detail if you want to pm later. I've even got Lew's parts on my revos.
  9. I was watching Wheels and Reels on World Fishing Network and part of my fishing spirit raged up like Goku turning Super Saiyan. Long story short, both teams were pretty much fishing live bait; so clickers were set and what not. In one take the camera pans to a rod that gets a hit. It looks to be a 6000 size Ambassadeur with a bait clicker. The the nascar fan, hosting one of the teams on his boat, sets the hook, but he doesn't switch off the clicker. As an Abu guy, or even for the general reel tech, that killed me. Let me here what shreds you up or grinds your gears. I'll be stuck in doors for pretty much the next day and a half (Marlyander).
  10. Jerry's prices are pretty competitive. Plus he ships fast. I've only ordered from hookless once, but I like his selling format- really organized and pain free to order.
  11. 200-300, go Lew's. Features/Build:Coin ratio is as close to a 1:1 than most any other brands out there; I'm an Abu guy myself.
  12. Josh, I know for sure Dads Ole' Tackle has blocks for all three of the Ambassadeur centrifugal systems, I'd give him a buzz. He's got the ebay page and his webpage. His business number is 936-264-4167 (Texas time). I know for sure that they vary in weight, so he can confirm the weight order. The captive blocks, no matter clean and thinly oiled I get them, just seem to not slide as easily as the two block system. But yeah, those fiber blocks can get lost easy, so I'd say the two block system is somewhere in between. Heck, sometimes I forget to wedge the block on the captive six between two fingers, I've lost one already; one casualty to a light gray colored carpet (I thought deuce that, I got spares). Abu Addict, Rio
  13. Maxximus, I know the 4 slot is needed for the 6 brake platstic snap on piece; I'm really just wondering if someone on here has used a pair of the Avail clutch washer with the 4 plastic blocks. Ordering an import part takes forever, and I hate it when I see the tracking # stuck on cusoms in NY for about three days. I might just order two sets if feedback is good. I could always e-mail JUN from Japantackle, but then again, a seller would show some bias towards purchasing. I've already switched my Ambassadeurs to 4 slot/ 6 brake conversions, but it maybe a good thing that I kept their 2-slot cousins.
  14. War, Yeah, that sounds like the only route since there probably isn't a 2 slot version (6.8 is new to.the roundies, right) plus the pinion is available mainland than imported and is cheaper. I just feel like the brake blocks were better than the plastic 6-pin.
  15. new2bc, First of all, thanks for the greeting and with three 1600c's, you're lucky. I'm this close to jumping the gun as far as selling some of my gen3 revo customs for some more 25/2600 or 15/1600s. I have a set installed on my 2500c IAR, but with the way Jun advertises, on Japan Tackle, to set the drag to 2 kg, is kind of discouraging. But then again, how much drag do I need for the average 2 lb bass around my nearby lakes. The avail shallow spools and matching mag brakes form Japan Tackle, make it hilariously easy to cast. It's almost like a spincaster for a beginner; it hits the water and almost no birdnest without the thumb to stop it and 100% loose spool tension knob. As far as faster gears go, I'm not sure which reel seats use the 5.1 gear ratio. I guess an e-mail to purefishing customer service is at hand, but I'll forewarn you that they'll never disclose if a certaing part will fit on another model. Anyways, I think the 5.1s are probably all you need with handles in the 75-85mm range; that should be perfect.
  16. Hey guys, this is my first post here. I've been a troller for quite some time now, so I guess here is start to my contribution. Anyways, since the freeze out, I've been on fleabay rebuilding ambassadeurs out of boredom. Now as far centrifugal braking goes, to me, it seems that the 6-pin, part # 1116727, brakes about the same as the 2-pin clutch washer assembly. I'm currently working on a 6.8 gear ratio conversion, from the new 5600 record, for my 4600 frankenstein. I'm thinking of installing the avail 4-point brake clutch washer and modifying the 6.8 pinion to fit the older clutch washers. I need some opinions. Thanks, Rio 'It's-cold-as-+i+$-outside-so-I'm-building-ambassadeurs' Lucero P.S. I own my share of low pros of from the current Revo Gen Series, but I just have and empty void in my fishing heart that only abu roundies can fulfill.
