Maryland's Who's who!
Wooty woot! HoCo anglers. Jtrout, I think I've already ran into you a handful of times already at Elk. Jackall Giron ring a bell? I flipped that thing like a 10.0 high dive next to thick as patch of hydrilla. You've got a Cardiff that your running for a swimbait setup, right? Anantha, Elk is my go to lake of the four Columbia Lakes, if you want to sometime, I can share some spots with you; ones for catching numbers, and other spots for the 3+ poundies.

Abu Garcia Revo Mgx Vs. Abu Garcia Revo Rocket
Mgx has the smaller gear set like the ltx, lt, mgxtreme, and I think the alt as well. These reels have a slightly narrower spool than the other gen 3 revos at around 25.6 vs 27.3mm. Other than weight differences, I can't figure out what the deuce could be much more noticeable. Take some time to compare schematics between a gen 3 premier palm side plate and an mgx palm side plate; you'd be pleasantly surprised how many parts are shared. I've done a lot of parts of swapping: Gen3 sx, stx, inshore-> premier spool with IVCBVI braking Gen3 premier -> IVCBVI

Best Bait To Cast Into A Box
I second the t-rigged creature bait notion. A Havoc Pitboss won't break the bank even if you lose half the pack. Also, try a t-rigged (belly weight hook) zoom fluke upside down; twitch it above the box then let it do it's dying action.

Kayak Fishing
Personally, I prefer shorter rods (6'6") when fishing from my yak; I even use 5'6" pistol grips. I love fishing overhangs and slowly drifting under them, so packing shorter rods makes that process a tad bit easier when I need to tuck them away.

How Much Do You Spend On Average A Year On Fishing ?
1/5 of my income is designated disposable. Seeing as how fishing is my recreational mainstay, I'd say exactly 1/5 of my income.

Good Finesse Baitcaster 1/8 - 3/16 Oz Baits
Haha. I've recently joined the 2500c club this past winter thanks to ebay. I can honestly say that with only a shallow spool (avail 2520) and mag assembly (two set side by side), that it blows away any of my stock revo 3's; it doesn't even have the air bfs bearings in it either. Anyways, question about your 4600c: Without handle bearings is it levelwind x 2, idler gear x 2, spool x2, tension knob x1, and IAR? I've done away with all my 4000 sizes except for one setup as mentioned prior without the tension knob; it's the separate spool axle design.

Maryland's Who's who!
I was fishing Wilde Lake in Howard County yesterday and made small talk with a fellow angler. I politely took all his input on how to catch the 'big ones' with the watermelon and red flake yum dingers or senkos. Anyhow, he proceeded onto catching bedding bass. This was the part that caught my attention. So much like a dog, if you were too slap a bass' tail, it'll give your bait a reaction bite. I never thought about doing that. Here I was dropshotting forever with every plastic on hand and this concept completely eluded me. Can anyone here verify this?

Don't Fight The Forum
What about wacky bama rigged senkos? Haha, that'd be like reeling in a tree branch every time.

Popper Bite Turn On?
Central Maryland chiming in. I've had blowups already but nothing past 15 ft from the bank. Shallow ponds 2- 3ft max... early march at roughly 45-50 degree water temp. I still like the spook and buzz bite best though.

My Bank Fishing Setup
I hate the term 'bait monkey'. I prefer to see it as a post-apocalyptic survival kit. Although I'm this close to jumping the gun on selling my spinnerbait and jig lots to some other doomsday preppers here on BR.

Just Can't Get Bit?
Did you ask whether or not he used a scented trailer? Still strange though with water that clear; black and blue wouldn't have been my go to color.

Revo Orra Sx - May Purchase One, Any Opinions
I did a lot of reel tuning for my fishing group this past winter, and the orra2 sx (this is the one, right?) has the same form factor as the Revo 3 S, SX, STX, Inshore, and Premier. The gearbox sideplate is smaller like the ALT, MGX, Mgxtreme, and the list will go on with the JDM models. So where I'm getting at is this, the same aftermarket parts, like shallow spools for the SX can be installed onto it (you'll need to order the pinion gear shaft). Parts are easily swappable. My favorite part though, is the spring loaded cambolt with thumb access which frees up the palm side plate to open. I actually prefer that than to unscrew and pull the cambolt with my finger nail like in the revo series. I say go for it. You can either pay a whallop for a higher end abu low pro like an mgx, or in time, if you get bored, piece by piece transform it into an mgx or ltx. All my revo gen 3's are hybrids just like my ambassadeurs.

Abu Ambassadeur 5500 C
I've never really messed around with the older c series aside from the 2500's. What I can tell you though is that I've bought brake plates for the newer ambassadeurs and have noticed, when shopping around, that the position holders and yolks, pretty much anything involved with dis/re-engaging the pinion gear is different. I'm not sure if the older c series yolk can hold the newer style pinion (even the 2-slot) on its c series brake plate. Only one way to find out and that is to fit the parts. May I suggest Walmart. Some carry the real ambassadeurs, like the c3, that you can tinker with. Once confirmed, return it. Walmart hassle free return (minus waiting in line). If the pinion and main gear can work with the older 'c' brake plates, drag stack, and yolk, then I don't see why it wouldn't work. But you also gotta realize that the spool needs to be upgraded to the current style as you can't snap on the 6 brake block clutch washer onto the older spools.

4 1/2 Inch Jitterbug
Bluegills will nip at your bait like it would on a shiny, small, bare hook or pretty much anything. I still count them as a catch as a last resort.

Stormwater Ponds
Thanks for the replies fellas. I actually caught my first topwater of the year with a storm chug bug in black and red 3/8 oz. Funny though that I had to resort to my least favored method even in a shallow pond where where a heron can walk across the whole way through; painstaking 20 seconds between pops.

Stormwater Ponds
I live within 2 miles from a 2-2.5 acre stormwater pond. It's conveniently a block away from my primary gas station; so I make my pit stops a handful times per week. I've caught numerous poundies last year and the max depth is only 6-8 feet at most and really in only two pockets, the north end and southeast corner. When it runs shallow in the heat of summer, these are the only spots where you can't see the bottom. So my question is, is topwater game all day when it gets shallow? Better yet, can I run topwater year round (even as soon as ice out)? My choice in topwaters are zara pups/spook jrs, torpedoes, and buzz baits (nothing more than 3/8 oz) at a distant third. I frog once in a while, but I still have to work on my timing. Tight lines, Rio

Ned Rig
I've just started to read into the history of the ned rig. So from what I've read, it's pretty much a shortened senko or senko like bait on a 1/16 jighead with an oversized hook. Asside from an exposed hook, is the trick behind it the position of the eyelet? Also would setting it up with a scrounger jig be counterintuitive? I was thinking about busting out 4 ned rigs for this weekend. 2 normal jigheads and two scroungers with two trick worms and two senkos.

Maryland's Who's who!
How you doing fellas? Central, MD Howard County checking in. So I was at the Hanover Bass Pro small talking and what not when John told me that the Rocky Gorge (T. Howard Duckett Water Shed) pool at the bottom of the dam has Walleye. Can anyone confirm this or has anyone even fished the area before? Tight Lines, Rio

Bass Fishing Physics
Rocket Shad would be the perfect compromise of the two. Too bad they don't come with red eyes, but it can always be swapped out.
