Glad this thread could help the both of us. Last year I got really comfortable with wacky rig so now that I'm confident in that I'm gonna go to tubes and drop shot more this year. Just expanding my arsenal
  2. Actually found a good article on bass genetics. Now they're small scale waters but still http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/fish_genetics.html
  3. No that's not what I'm saying about browns just saying that the fish caught in that instance should have weighed much more specially in a lake such as erie.

Good to hear BPS plastics are showing up not just specific manufactures. But I'm also thankful for the links. What for weighted inserts have you found to be good quality as well? I've seen a lot of people say they like the 90 degree bent eyelets.
  5. That's horrible lol but at the same time great.

Glad you said that I've been working on a Tackle warehouse order and had some cabin creek tubes in my cart. Going take your advice on that.
  7. To my knowledge genetics are passed down in all forms of life. Your are right about fish continue to grow throughout their life but I'm to believe others are more prone to gain that "giant" stature we all seek. Like I said before genes are the start of it then the other factors come in to play. Surroundings, food sources, etc. I've also seen a 32inch brown trout out of Lake Erie that only weighed over 4lbs bc he grew that big but passed his full potential and it's not like we don't know that Lake Erie is the most productive of the Great Lakes when it comes to fish. There are studies done on that.
  8. Mmm can't wait to have that chance. Never used a g-loom though might ruin me.
  9. Not that I've looked into fishes genetics but just genetics in general I have. Manage the deer on my property but how could every other species in the world pass on its genes but not fish? Same a bass that's full potential would only be 5lbs fertilized eggs next to eggs that a full 10lb+ bass fertilized eggs those bass wouldn't get larger over there life time saying they reached their full potential? Now of course things in life include being a good predator in a rich environment with lots of food sources. I'm not saying your wrong, like I said I haven't looked in to fish like that but it just doesn't make sense to me. And as far as releasing the bass I've come to my senses and I'll admit I would have a really really hard time releasing it. If it were a Pa state record.
  10. Same thing as passing up on a shooter buck. Done it plenty of times I wouldn't think twice about releasing a bass. I'm in it for the catch. How you gonna catch it again unless it's released? Ill scale that thing myself and probably take 100+ pics sure. But I don't want it to die. All those genetics going to waste

Texas rig was the first rig I ever started out using. I'm confident in it not and think I can use a tube on it. Now that I have some weighted tube insert jigs coming I'm really excited to use them this year in some of the lakes I fish for small mouth. Now flipping them is something I never thought of bc I mainly only flip and pitch with 1/2-3/4 ounce skirted jigs with trailers of choice depending on where I'm at. Swimming jigs or anything really is something I need to work on.
  12. Well world record is one thing. If I caught the world record, agreed it's going on ice. But it would be hard for me to not release a Pa state record. I'm mean after all were not exactly known for a giant large mouth.

So I've been reading posts now for a little bit and found everyone takes with them is tubes. It's one of the few things I haven't really fished. So I just did a big tackle warehouse order and got a few tube jigs so I can start this year. So I was wondering what tubes have you found work the best. Manufacture, size, technique. I'm no greenhorn anymore I know how to pick my colors but just wondering what all works best for everyone else and just some advice for this coming season. Trying to make the jump from okay-so-so bass fisherman to where I want to be.
  14. Would rather just brag about the fish here in PA then let the thing die before it would get verified. Let someone else enjoy it.
  15. Last year my buddy and I fished a local bass tournament series as members. We joined and fished all of the tourneys out of his 1232 Jon boat. I'm a big guy (6'4" 295lbs) and he's 5'10" 160lbs. Now the tourneys were trolling motor only that's our series name TMO level motor field for glass boats vs. Jon's. We were limited to an inlet of a no limit hp lake so we could go out into the wake of the main lake. We were fishing probably 3/4 mile from the dock roughly 350yards from the no-wake line when the biggest jet boat I've ever seen at the lake swung in the buoys and shot out to main lake. My buddy was up front and I was in the back with 2 batteries and 2 trolling motors and were sitting in 40ft of water on top this submerged tree. The wake came all that way and sent 3inches of water over the back like 2 times. Batteries shorted out so my buddy took an oar out and was hitting the tree under us and dragging us to shore as I bucket about 8 gallons out the back. I seriously thought we were going down in this little boat. I had more control of my bowells then I thought I did for sure.
  16. I feel the same except no salt here in Pa but all of our money goes to the trout and our stocking system has really gone down hill the last 7 years at least around me I feel. Now I spend roughly $90 for 2 states 21.70 for home state but I would gladly pay more if they did more for the lakes. They did down some trees in one of our lake last year which was great. But the lakes I grew up right beside they do nothing to. They put ridiculous boat launches in which are more in the way then anything and I've seen my fair share of boats beat up on the slides they put in. Sorry for ranting but I feel that they care more about the brand new trucks the fish commission gets and every one of them has a carry .45 and their suits getting pressed and dry cleaned then they do our lakes. They just waste to much of our money
  17. Actually placed in the last tournament of the season for me last year to make it in the top 10 in points and the classic with this technique
  18. I actually just started a thread and got a ton of people responded to what is my favorite crankbaits. Bombers are inexpensive and their A series is legendary, they make great square bills, deep cranks, etc etc but them and rapala dt series are my go to. But colors as far as that goes just match the cover you have around you in the lake. Dark green with a black back and white belly works really well for me running them parallel to the weed lines.
  19. Soon as you get a boat everything will change lol tons more stuff lol plus you can just fish any body of water a lot better and easier. I started really small a tiny Jon boat and I'm not a small guy lol so yeah it sucked but I had so much fun. Now I got a little bigger Jon that I converted into a bass boat myself. Next year I'll probably upgrade again. To many benefits fishing from a boat not to get one and to many memories made from mine
  20. Man you really got me thinking now that I need to break the waders out and go try to rock some smallies out of the small river in town here. I've fished them on my birthday the last 2 years (4th and 5th of July my birthday is the 5th) but never now when the rivers got ice on the sides
  21. Ahhh golden rule and scale are good ones I forgot. Really should have a small first aid kit but usually don't have one with me lol
  22. Mutli-tool enough said lol but usually a lot of bullet weights, line, pair of clippers, lots of gama hooks, etc etc before all the plastics and hard baits
  23. Actually never had a whole lot of luck of square bills in general but really want to get into them more this year bc they are great
  24. Would really like to get me some 8a's for this coming season. I'm a simple man when it comes to hooks usually swap out for gama's, or I'll get tired of having to order them from BPS I'll pick up a thing of eagle lasers from Wally World
  25. I've never tried no. Mostly we troll with live bait, umbrella rigs, or at night sleep on the boat and fish off the bottom for them and lake trout
